Martin Hemi shootout

We have organized our own race since MP cancelled the bowling green race, and we feel that the future of hemi shootouts is up in the air if we are dependant on a bankrupt company for our livelyhood.
This event will be held at the Chrysler Classic event at 131 dragway in MI.
Large cash purse to be payed at the event, and contingent awards that will be awarded at the event also. The way it should be.
any questions, call me @ 517 531 3430
The info is on my website,

thanks

Good luck with this Charlie. I will be there to chear on all of the SS/AH cars. This will be a great venue for a shootout as Martin has always been one of my favorite tracks. Again Good Luck and I hope you have a huge turnout.

Charlie, the best of luck with this project. Also, what is the status of the Hemi Challenge at Indy? It is still listed on the schedule for Friday morning; but I don't know if I should believe that. Any info that you can provide will be appreciated.

its getting painted right now. We should have it home in 2 weeks, than I will need to get it ready, 2 more weeks. So look for it at the track in a month or so. Probably right after the race.

I attend Indy every year for all 6 days, so I am well aware of what you are saying David. My point is the schedule on the NHRA website specifically lists the Hemi Shootout on Friday as part of SS class elims. It is listed that way every year, but with Chrysler declaring bankruptcy this year, I don't know if I should believe that the Hemi Shootout will be held. Any info that anyone has will be appreciated.

Whether or not it has a big dollar sponsor they will still be running class for all Super Stock (including SS/AH) on Friday - they just likely won't have as much fanfare as past years. No the real question is how many Hemi cars will show up if they are just running for the couple hundred bucks contingency that is posted for class winners? Though I'm sure there will be some pot pulled together to make it more attractive unless the Martin Hemi Shootout is the racers way of taking the class outside NHRA and skip Indy this year.

Thats it, I am using the side pipes to scavenge the exhaust charge in a low pressure area. I guess the secret is out.
Did you notice my new warfish logo on the door? Sweet!

The Hemi Shootout is Class Eliminations. If Mopar pulls out we're still racing heads-up like we did before Mopar ever pitched in.

David, I realize that class elims. will be run just as they have been every year in the past; earlier in this thread, Tim Kish clearly expressed exactly what I was trying to point out - how many SS/AH cars will show up to run for peanuts as opposed to the substantial money that was available when Mopar sponsored the show. My concern is that instead of close to 30 SS/AH cars, as it has been in the past, there may be fewer than 10.

It's INDY,

many will show just for the prestige of winning the granddaddy of them all. Some will stay away if mopar pulls the money but many will run just to win Indy.

Re: Martin Hemi shootout

I am sure that this year there will be plenty of cars, just like in years past. But what many fans dont realize is that to enter indy, we spend around 10k going to points meets to get grade points so we can run for 10k. The races like Martin, the dutch, vegas, and norwalk are races that we just show up for, run it all in one day, and go home. I personally am over indy, and if it wasnt for the MP 10K I wouldnt go to the circus. The smaller events are twice as much fun, and less stress to attend. Whether or not MP backs the series is irrellevant to me, someone else will always have a place to race. The dutch is going to be a big event as always, and the norwalk race will probably have 10K or more to run for. The people who own these cars, and spend all the money, are not going to let this go away. I personally am not relying on a company that screws its dealer network to supply me with a place to race. I am not kissing their *** to get what in the scheme of things is chump change, they should be kissing ours for keeping a 40 year old product in the limelight.

Very well said Charlie. I was aware of the grade points system and its requirements, but I didn't realize that your expenses are about 10k in order to get them. If I understand you correctly, if Indy has a 10k purse, you and your Dad will be there; but if the purse is substantially less than 10k, you and your Dad will not be there. As a big fan of you and your Dad, it won't quite be the same if both of you aren't there; no matter what, I will definitely see you at the Dutch.

I think all the regulars will be there this year, next year I may reconsider. I heard yesterday that MP had to spend 30K with NHRA for us to get 10K at indy. I dont know if this is exactly true, but I wouldnt be surprized.

Many many years ago I attended an IHRA with a shirt that said "Who is Wally Parks" on the front and "Who Cares" on the back. I think those times are back again.
For a few years I attended Indy as a racer, then as a spectator of many years watching Sat, Sun & Mon. Then I realized what I was missing, now I see a better show on Thursday & Friday. I head home on Saturday. I have already seen the BEST racing!! :p Not only the SS/AH race but all the stock & super stock:rolleyes:. Rock on CW!!!!!

I believe there are a lot of ways that NHRA gets money from sportsman racing that isn't counted when they claim we don't support ourselves. Like all the track fees where the pros never run, unclaimed contingencies, the list is a lot longer I think.
