New Dallas Raceway, schedule changes

Rumors about Dallas Raceway & IHRA, any truth to be known?

The D 4 Jr finals have been moved from Dallas Raceway to Pinevalley. Rumors are the IHRA sanction has been dropped?

Re: New Dallas Raceway, schedule changes

Could it have to do with the INTENSE traffic enforcement during the National race and other big races ??
Could another track owner in the area be involved ??
Perhaps an NHRA track owner ??
A less racer friendly track owner nearby ??
I heard Dallas Raceway's website had been hacked before the national race.....hmmmm..

I heard that Dallas raceway was unhappy with IHRA.. Said they did not promote the race enough.. Owners was very unhappy.. The LOCAL police was totally ASSHOLES. No need for what they did..

Track owners had a very serious problem with track but they also worked their *** of to try and fix it. I for 1 hate to lose this IHRA track. With that said Business and making a profit is a MUST.

WE had a GREAT TIME. Everyone was nice

Just my 2 CENTS worth

what was the problem they had? was it the police issues?

I hope they stay with IHRA, I was looking forward to larger IHRA presence in the DFW area. I was planning on putting my wagon back in stocker trim thinking I could have two divisionals and two national events with in an hour drive of my house.

Jones,

I shared your hope. That track is about 85 miles for me, all but about 8 miles Interstate driving. But judging by the updated web site and schedule, it looks like "booked in shows only"

It is one more example of our changing drag race landscape.

I do believe drag racing will again prosper, but I also believe it will be considerably different from today. I think it will become leaner, the cost to build cars and race locally, will out of necessity, be lower.

In the D/FW and greater East Texas area, the "Super" tracks may not be where we are able to race. It may come down to Kennedale & Red Line in the MetroPlex, and Pinevalley for South East Texas

Just thoughts

If you're going to include Caddo Mills in the MetroPlex we might as well include NorthStar north of Denton.
And maybe the strip at Texas Motor Speedway north of Ft.Worth will develop into a bigger schedule...??

They have bought the timing equipment and setup a dragstrip, not sure the location on the property.
And have a series of six Friday night "races" starting tonight and going thru August 7th. It's sponsored by Scion so it might be a "Fart Pipe Junbilee" !!! Eliminations don't start until 9:25 PM !!!
It is HOT here today but I'm going to drive down to check out the first night of action. It's only 103 right now but should cool down by 9 PM..........:-)

Probably on pit road, like they've been doing at Atlanta.

It was on pit road......no timing lights and an arm drop start like pinks.....zzzzzzzz
I had heard they bought timing equipment and the works........apparently not !
But maybe....just maybe they might in the future .......

Re: New Dallas Raceway, schedule changes

Why would anyone want to go to TMS for one of these eight mile arm drop deals. Unless they are intimidated by real race cars and drivers. Twenty minutes north of TMS is the North Star Dragway(Denton) which is open several nights a week (brackets and various heads up classes) as does Texas Raceway(Kennedale) 35 minute south of TMS. I tend to believe that this type of venue mainley attacks the old Sonic crowd that like to talk about how fast they used to be and they have a place they can go a couple times a year and not have time slips to dispute their claims about their rides. At TX Raceway on Saturdays when we run brackets they have a street class for the price of a pit side entry ($12.00). They get two time trials and then eliminations. The winner gets $50.00 and the R/U gets free entry for the next time they come. Plus you get all the read outs from the clocks. Like I said I don't get it. If you're going to race well let's race. Maybe it attracks those who think everyone deserves a trophy for trying.

if going to tms keeps a bunch of street racers off the street racing for a nite and saves a life, i dont care why they went and hope they keep going.

Re: New Dallas Raceway, schedule changes

I would say that most people who really have a street car, not those 8 second cars they claim are street legal, it is probably more fun to go to something like that.
at an airport near me (Elkins, WV) last saturday, there were 6000 spectators and 120 cars running with a stop light. no itme slips, just find someone to run and go at it.
I haven't been to a race for a long time that wasn't a night of fire or have some side show that had that many people watching. 5 bucks a head to watch, 30 to run. Had to wait 45 minutes in line of traffic to get in...

to me, cars with real highway/street tires just basically mess up the starting line at most drag strips.

I do too. Street racing has killed way too many around here. And, the TV keeps calling it Drag Racing.

Chris Bowman said: "to me, cars with real highway/street tires just basically mess up the starting line at most drag strips"

I agree. On TNT nights out here the starting line is usually all done by 8:00 pm. I load up, go home, and still make my bed time.

Re: New Dallas Raceway, schedule changes

TWENTY BUCK$ is STEEP to get in for ARM DROP & NO TIMING.....
I think you can get in Kennedale cheaper than that and get a CHRISTMAS TREE an actual timeslip !!!!!

TMS needs to set up a REAL dragstrip and build on this program. I think as it is will lose interest fast.......

Re: New Dallas Raceway, schedule changes

or it could stay like it is and then the one's that want to take it serious and step it up a notch could seek out one of the other venues like kennedale, dallas, denton, ennis etc.hopefully feed some new blood into the sport.

The "midnight drags" here locally, they do not want time slips or the score boards turned on. They took a vote. The ricers probably don't want their 15 second ETs shown. One kid in the staging lanes next to me was showing his buddy his time slip. "Look, 15.35! These clocks are F...ed up. EVERYBODY knows this is a 13 second car!"

Yeah, and I weigh 120 lbs.

Re: New Dallas Raceway, schedule changes

i remember when i used to work the midnite type deals.would pack the house for sure.biggest problem i had with alot of the NT cars was alot of em didnt meet safety rules. No bars, helmets, jackets etc.Could tell when one was on a quick trip and radio the tower and ask what the et was.if it was quick or fast enough to require something,I check'd or had them checked and if they couldnt come up with it or slow it down,it was spectating time.Sure,I got cuss'd out alot, but I didnt need a family and lawyer's up my pants when one of em got hurt or worse when something went wrong and i let em run without the proper safety equipment.i had alot of slow ones that didnt want their friends to know they were slow, but they werent my concern like the quicker/faster ones in gutted out cars with a bottle of n2o or a turbo wearing a tshirt, jeans, and bust off a 9-10 sec pass.
