Lifter Bore Repair
I recently moved to eastern NC (Greenville area) and I am looking for a honest, reasonable, quality machine shop that can repair (bush) worn lifter bores in a small block chevy. Only one bore appears worn but it may be more after miking Thanks for any suggestions you will share.

Heintz Brothers!!!
The main shop is in Statesville, but I know they are also in Concord. Mike races Super Stock. Their work, and customer service are second to none. They are also very responsive. www.heintzperformance.com Toll Free:1-877-562-7373 Ph: (704) 455-9422 Bill |
Re: Lifter Bore Repair
If allowed for your class, another option would be to have the lifter bores taken out to .875", and run that size (Ford) lifter.

Re: Lifter Bore Repair
No rules that would stop me from boring them to a Ford size but I still need to find someone to do the machining.

Re: Lifter Bore Repair
I don't know whether it's feasible, but the Mopar lifters are the biggest diameter, at .904".
If that would work for you, and bigger is better, it might bear looking into. Then again, maybe that size won't work in your engine... Check it out. Bill |

If you are in eastern NC you should contact Doug Hobgood @ H & F Performance in Wilson, NC. They do our engines and many class racers from this area. You won't find nicer people to work with. Their number is 252/243-2050.

Thanks for that information. I am sorry for the mis-information. I wasn't aware of the Olds lifter diameter. Was that ALL Olds lifters, or just a select few applications?. |
Re: Lifter Bore Repair
Can not remember which was which as some blocks had different lft bore bore angles.

Re: Lifter Bore Repair
Whoever does lifter bores will tell you probaly to do all of them. Many sbc won't clean all bores up
when correcting locations{blueprinting} when just going to .875 ford .904 will usaully clean up all of them I would recomend put bronze bushings in they will last longer than non bushed holes. The bushings are 1'' O.D. and can prep the I.D. for whichever size lifter you want. Make sure whoever does it has fixture that corrects location like BHJ as example or one the newer CNC machines that does lifter bores and everything else like Rottler F65 etc.I remachined BBC one time guy had me dyno I did heads so I knew how much power he should have from flow numbers.it was way off and engine was too hard to rotate. He said fix it.tore down, checked lifter bores W/ go/no go gauge on BHJ fixture they had just been bushed by somebody they were off had to go .842-.904 to correct, rehone cyl. redeck block was out square leaking head gaskets dyno time only.rebalance long story short remachine whole short block. With no other changes besides machining picked up 60 HP Mike Taylor 3601 |
