I've checked around...sorry, no luck. How about a legit '69 AMX factory Superstocker? #3 of 53 built. Never tubbed or caged. Recent restoration.

Re: 1969 rambler scrambler

My friend bought a new Road Runner in 1970.....383/4 speed. We raced it once or twice after hot rodding it a little. I ran it in G/S one day and would up racing one of those AMC Scramblers for the trophy. The Srambler was running 13.6's but I managed to beat him at the tree and win with a 13.87. The AMC had the scoop and all the special decals....AMC made some decent cars back then and I even looked at one myself as I really liked the Javelin fastback body style......

Here's one:

They appear on ebay occaisionally. Keep an eye there. Most are restored because they are rare.

My dad used to run against one of these every Sunday at Raven Rock in Portsmouth Ohio. Dad had a 1968 Roadrunner with a 383 and used to put it on him pretty bad. I was only about 6 years old at the time, but remember it like it was yesterday. They were really cool cars. It looks like the one on ebay could have been the same car. I wished I had only had a camera.

The guy in the S/C must have had the secondaries disconnected.
A car in that condition should probably go for a bit north of 30G.
Right Dwight?

Re: 1969 rambler scrambler

A SC/Rambler in the condition shown on ebay would be north of $40K, no problem. A friend of mine sold two @ BJ this last show and although nice, were really lacking in the details IMO. They averaged around $65K with one "A" scheme (broad red paint on the sides) and the other the "B" scheme (less graphics).

The seller on ebay is kidding himself with the "one of three" factory equipped with the Thrush muffler. They all came that way! AMC's answer to the GM chambered exhaust for pennies. :D

DJ - It was Monte Howard who had the friend with one.

I have seen one of those cars go for $65K. Good ones seem to be in the $40K + range.

Jeff,

I would love to have one but I'm sure $ 100.00 won't buy it. Question: I seem to remember that when Hurst built them they did something to the wheel base...am I remembering right or has that brain cell died with most of the rest?

Re: 1969 rambler scrambler

No, it's still a 97" wheelbase just like the street AMX. AMC / Hurst didn't build these cars too awfully special. You got the engine with 12.5:1 Jahns pistons, Crane ported heads, a stock .425" lift street cam and the Edelbrock STR intake with two #4858 (585 CFM) Holly carbs, Mallory distributor, Dougs headers. You buy it, you blueprint it.
The trans was a 2.64 low T-10 with Hurst linkage and modified floor for the linkage.
Rear was the Model 20 by Dana with 4.44:1 ratio and aftermarket 1-piece axles.
The engine (other than the cam, AMC expected you to put your own roller grind in) was decent.
But there wasn't anything really special about the body other than the loss of sound deadner, hood scoop, battery in trunk. Nothing like the Hurst '68 Mopar's with fiberglass front end, light weight glass, seats, etc.
But they sure did run and still do today. Right now I see the SS/C record is held by Aris Asdourian's SS/AMX in the 9-teens. AH Adkins runs about the same but in SS/B. The 8's are a real possibility for a SS/B AMX.
Now aren't you glad you asked?

NHRA Track Announcer Dennis Winegar had a couple of these at one time. Raced one in Stock eliminator in the 70's. I know he sold them both, but I will ask him if he knows where they went. Seems like the street legal one went to Nebraska. 390 4 speed with I think he said 4.44 gears. I remember it was red white and blue.

Yes, I am and thanks for the info. I always liked these cars because they always seemed to be the underdog compared to all the big motor cars in the surrounding classes.....got this underdog complex thing.

It's a shame people aren't more honest in their description of what they are selling.Next weekend we're having the annual AMC day at Cecil Co.A few usually show up there.
