Combo at Beech Bend

The weather for the stock/superstock combo race at Bowling Green, KY could not have been more perfect. On Saturday night the temperatures were in the 60s and a really nice night. Ricky Clark won out of 51 cars and Larry ran it up.

Then yesterday was a whole new race with 52 cars. We got beat 1st round and headed home after a nice grilled steak lupper (that is lunch and supper combined!)

Chris and his family came with us this weekend and we took in Beech Bend Amusement Park on Saturday before the race. It was just really perfect weather for that, too. We didn't try out Splash Lagoon, since it was pretty cool outside.

I don't know who ended up winning the race on Sunday. Maybe someone will let us know who won. I took some pictures which I will try to post later today.

A great weekend to race and some of the best stock and super stock racers in the country in attendance.

As you can see, there were some very good cars at Beech Bend. Some of these you may not have seen up close before. We all had a great time. There is another of these races Aug. 8 & 9. It should be a good turn-out again, unless everybody is getting ready for Indy.

Does anyone know who won the race on Sunday?

Larry, Notice anything missing from the shaker hood scoop on the blue A/SA '70 Hemicuda? Or does stuff like that just not matter anymore at a local weekend combo race? I sure hope the phrase "who cares" does not apply here.

Good eye Travis, Knight's Cuda was classed as an IHRA A/SA so he could run off of the 430 IHRA HP. I believe the scoop is correct when he runs @ the open and at the points meet using NHRA rules. To me it does matter.

So IHRA does not require certain items that can effect performance. What happens if a NHRA A/SA car runs an IHRA A/SA car in eliminations? Does only one of the cars need correct items that can effect performance?

Travis, Larry and Knight had to run each other Saturday night and they dialed in. I think since this race is run at an NHRA track competitors should have to use NHRA factors. All other same class races are run heads up.

I want to say thanks to Dallas and Clay Jones for having these two day races. I truly think this may be the future of our sport. The format gives you enough time to race and socialize with friends but doesn't require a large investment of time or money. We do need to work on the tech side of things, but if these continue to be successful I think that will happen.

If it is advertised as a combo race where NHRA and IHRA cars are legal, then you should be able to run as either. I am sure Ricky Clark runs his Camaro as a xx/FIA instead of in xx/SA. The same is for IHRA super stock production cars. In NHRA they would have to run in SS modified.
I would think the louvers would have to be in the A/SA regardless though.

on another note though, I think both sanctioning bodies need to get together and have an independent firm do the chassis inspections, or at least honor the chassis of the other based upon the ET of the cars. YOu might have to still pay for both, but at least the cars could get certified one time and be good to tun anywhere without a problem.

Sorry, but I didn't see a qualifying sheet either day. I know there were 51 cars on Sat. and 52 on Sun. We did run off a ladder based on qualifying.

Does anyone else that was there know about qualifying? I think Ricky Decker was # 2 on Sat. and the SS/MA was # 1 on Sunday, but I don't remember his name. It was a yellow car!

Jim Meredith SS/MA Chevelle was #1 qualifier both days. Yes I did class B/FIA because a fellow racer asked me if i would so he could run C/SA so i did. As far as IHRA/NHRA rules my opinon is if you HAVE a IHRA membership number than you can run the IHRA classes if not you claim NHRA classes just my opinon.

Thats OK Patsy, One of the tax group car pics Rick Youngs I think has my car in it also. Thanks needed that win tore up a lot of pieces this year that win helps a lot. See you all On August 8-9 for the next one. Maybe we can do it agin next time.

As far as rules go, I know its a glorified bracket race, but I wish it were NHRA rules only. But then again, what is the IHRA factor for the 1972 Nova 350??? Hell, you might change my mind, maybe its lower than 278!
