Any guesses on what its gonna take to get into Indy this year?

I'm gonna try and go and give it a shot just wondering what it might take.

Last year some people got in with one grade point. Things are much worse this year so I think one grade point will still do it

Depends alot on the weather. If your car can't run a -1.00 second under though you will be taking a chance.IMO

I think -1.00 under will definately qualify for the 128 car field. On the other hand,1.00 OVER might make the cut too!

They will all make it. There will not be enough cars to fill the field.

Jim and Hammer, this is what I was trying to imply in my first post. Things are much worse this year than last. We didn't have a full field at the Indy points meet and it is a sign of the current conditions. Now that NHRA has raised prices it should reflect in the car count. You have to be there no later than Wednsday night and hotel prices skyrocket starting Friday night. I say if you can show up and run -.500 you are in the field.

So you think there will not be 128 cars in stock, at Indy this year. I will bet anyone $100 that Stock has a min 128 cars. Less than 128 cars at indy give me a break you jack offs.

chuckebob is right, AT LEAST 128.... however i dont think there will be 180 so the BUMP may not be at tough as in past years ... and of course you dont have to worry about those pesky class winners getting in ... ALL THE INTERNET WHINERS TOOK CARE OF THAT LAST YEAR !

JACK

the captain will not be racing, as i said last year since that bull**** rule change
and, oh by the way i qualified on the front page, i believe, in case you think i wanna class win my way in !

Re: Any guesses on what its gonna take to get into Indy this year?

Back in around February, alot of the racers said that they weren't going to attend Indy because of the announcement of increased fees. Does anyone else think that racers, now that time has passed, still will not attend because of the NHRA increased fees? I myself, will not attend a Divisional points race until NHRA lowers the entry fee to at least where it was last year for the sportman racer. While the racer gets increases of the entry fee and insurance, the spectators are getting discounts on their tickets. Personaly I could care less if there are spectators attending or not. I know that spectators drive revenue for NHRA, but the revenue generated is not put towards the sportsman side of the race. The sportsman racer takes care of that himself. Doesn't anyone understand that the racer brings the show, not the spectator. Also, the spectator is the one who should be buying the insurance, they are the ones that are dangerous walking around. But, all in all, I'm in agreement that all military personel should get in free thoughout the whole event not just certain days.

LOL....your correct. There are a lot of stock elim. racers who have BIG money so that little increase in fees wont hurt them. Its the guys on a budget that will stay home.

So now I'm a "jackoff" for stating an opinion? Well, which one of us "jackoffs" got time off for being illegal? Was`it Jim the "jackoff"? Nope. Or maybe Chuck the "jackoff"? Ding ding! Yup, it was Chuckie the "jackoff"! And I'm willing to bet that Chuckie the "jackoff" will refuse to pay on his bet when he loses just like Dvorak did.
Jim the "jackoff".

Dick, don't mean to nitpick, but Indy is a 6 day race (Wed. - Mon.); I wll certainly be there for all 6 days. In my opinion, there will be more than 128 cars, but I am not sure they will get to the 180 quota.

Re: Any guesses on what its gonna take to get into Indy this year?

Jim you are correct I was disqualified at Indy in 2007. I’ am confused on how this has anything do with this post. Jim I bet you $500 that more then 130 stockers show up to Indy in 2009 put up or shut up. I’ am more worried about you not paying then me. If you really think that less then 128 stockers will show up for Indy then you really are clueless about racing a INDY and should stop drag racing, and posting here at once jackoff. No I have changed my mine you are no longer a jackoff now are upgraded to a A##clown.

Charley Downing just on of the more then 128 stockers that will race at indy in 2009.

Jim Wahl 07-23-2009 05:01 PM

Re: Any guesses on what its gonna take to get into Indy this year?

Charley, I am just a bit confused. Why is it that I can not voice an opinion that doesn't agree with you on this forum without being called a "jackoff"? Now according to you I must stop posting on this forum and I also should stop racing and I have been upgraded to "A##clown"? Just a tad harsh, don't you think?
How am I clueless about Indy? Every time I ran Indy I won class and passed teardown. (Travis tore me down one year). Do you have to get tossed like you in order to understand Indy? I would say I have more of a clue than you do. I didn't have to cheat to win.

The point here Charley is you don't have to degrade yourself and others by calling people names such as "jackoff" and "a##clown" just because they disagree with you. You are very immature and childish and you owe John and I an apology for the name calling, and allow me to post and race again and everything would be all good again. Jim, the "jackoff" AND "a##clown"

ISN? please tell me more. Jim you are confused like back in the day when you though it was legal to run NOS on your SS car and got busted. That fun fact was given to me today by a few of your div2 friends/racers that were there when all this went down many years ago. I find if funny that you pick on me for getting bounced for 8 grams on a rod and piston when you yourself did something much worse then I ever could do. Don't throw stones if you live in a glass house jimmy.

Re: Any guesses on what its gonna take to get into Indy this year?

Charlie/Stew. Lets have a pool on how many cars show up and have the cut off date to get in around the 10th of August. $20.00 to get in. I say 140 cars will enter. This will be the lowest car count in many years. Closest to the right number without going over wins. Lets talk about it this weekend.

Have a "bump prediction" contest. What will the 128th or LAST car (whichever it is) qualify at?

Ed O Brien is the defending champion of this contest.

Re: Any guesses on what its gonna take to get into Indy this year?

Looking back at the past National events this year, it's been pretty regional as far as the cars entering the races. If you look at Englishtown, there used to be alot of other division cars there and this year you could count them on your hands. I think that there might be as little as 90 cars there at Indy. 2 years ago I was sweating getting in with 3 grade points, now I think that if you have 0 grade points you are getting in.

If Top Sportsman and Top Dragster compete at the 2010 U.S.Nationals,then I would think that the 128 car field would possibly be cut to 64.This might be the last year of the 128 car field.
As a tiebreaker in the pool.... How far under will the # 64 car be?

Now THAT would really suck if NHRA cut the stock and or S/S fields or dropped them all together. If they bring in the high dollar ($100,000 +) "BRACKET" cars then I would look for the S/C and S/G fields to be dropped or cut instead. The spectators dont like to see throttle stop cars anyway and NHRA knows this. Its all about the show and spectator interest. Im sure the S/G and S/C guys dont want to hear this over and over but look at the big picture. But then on second thought they wouldnt have tear downs (less tech officials) for the class cars and Im sure NHRA is tired of all the bitching and paper work involved in keeping up with HP factors and engine specs. This is not intended to put down anyones choice of race car. Just my 1/2 cent in thinking.

Re: Any guesses on what its gonna take to get into Indy this year?

Charlie, are you bi-polar? If so that would explain your posts. If not, you need to get off the pipe! Let me explain what a "fact" is. A fact is something that can be substantiated. Example: Fact, Charlie Downing was tossed at Indy. Rumor: Charlie has been known to run a 350 instead of the claimed 305 in his race car. The above fact can be substantiated with a phone call to the proper NHRA officials. The above rumor can not. Fact: Jim Wahl has NEVER been tossed for nor found to be running NOS in any of his race cars. This is a fact because it can be substantiated by calling the proper NHRA officials, (626-914-4761) therefore it is relegated to the rumor category. Now take your medication as directed, and stop abusing people for no reason. Jim

Sorry to everyone for hijacking this thread, I'm done with Chuckie

Jim, I can't believe you fell for Charley's BS. He does this every year about this time to stir up ****. He is up in Michigan waiting on his headers to be recoated, and has a lot of time to be on the computer. I have known him since he was in diapers. If we all spent half the time he does working on our combos we would be a lot faster.
As for the bump spot at Indy, I predict all entries will get in. I guess the car count will be about 135. By the time you the normal amount of DQ's and breakage in class elims it will be close to a full field.(IMHO)

Do you really think that you could possibly get in with 0 grade points. I have been thinking about what they do if they don't have cars to show up. Today on West coast, in Pro Stock, 16 cars show and 16 make the field. #16 with a 15 et.

Jack, I hope that Jim is right on the total entries for stock, and that bs rule change is the reason why. Even if I had the funds to attend that race (I have 5 grade points so that's no issue), my car wouldn't run the -.933 it took to be 128th qualifier last year. Thus, there's no way in hell that I'm going to tow 1800 miles (one way!!!) just to win class (and that's only if DF/S is a no show like last year), go thru tear down, and not be able to race the eliminations because my car wouldn't be quicker than the 128th qualifier...screw that!!!
