INDY PHOTO THREAD- LeBrun Corvette
 

A friend sent me this photo the other day.It is out of his personal collection and has never been posted on the net before.

As far as I know, this car is the first Stock Eliminator car to run in the tens at an NHRA sanctioned event. (10.96, @ the 1971 Gatornationals) Yes , I know Jim Waldo was the first 8 lb Stocker in the tens later in the decade. This was a 7 lb. car ,on 7" tires. Mark Mazzotta was the driver. Dave Lebrun drove his 69 Camaro B/Stocker that year , and Joe DeLorenzo was the man behind the wheel of the team's C/S Chevelle . (Winner and runner -up, respectively at the 1971 Grandnational/ Molson event)

All three cars were 427/ 425hp equipped.

Mark - I remember an article in SS&DI in 1971 about the Pizzi Bros. '69 Camaro 427 that ran 10.99 at US 30. It was supposedly the first 10 sec. stocker. That was a 7 lb. car on 7" tires. I do not remember if the run was a points meet or not, but the time slip was printed in the article and it seems like it was in the Fall of 1970. LeBrun built the engine for the car and his Corvette was also covered in the same issue. Too bad I sold all my magazines a couple of years back. Freddie Cain has them now and could probably look it up.

Some from the 1970's we took, we were at Indy from 1961 to 2004. Now I just cann't go back to hard to quit draging........I miss you all.............Tom

We once had a Division 1 NED Stock Circuit series and we ran a race at Island Dragway. Butch Yurick ran the program.......Lebrun ran A/S with his Camaro I think and I also recall the Corvette driven by Mark Mazotta.....We ran Lebrun with our H/S Chevy II and both cars ran .05 under the record but my partner redlighted. We were low qualifier at .11 under the record....Skip Asay won the race I think......Lebrun was running around 11.40.


The '69 Camaro called one step beyond was Al Olster.......
Carl Bennett ran his Camaro in G/S and drove it himself before the SS days. He was one of T/K's best.

Mark, you would have loved the cherry early 50's Hudson I saw the other day on the Mass pike-I remember seeing one of them in stock when I was a kid.

Thats not Dave Koffel , is it ? I know he ran a Stude, the Flintstone Flyer, around those times.. I know he had an affiliation with Crane Cams as well. Thanks for the pics.. Unreal !!

I think it's Ted Harbit.He recently crashed his "Chicken Hawk" Stude a while back.That might be the same car in the picture.

Now back to some super stocks,in 1979 we had Shadwoods build us this 79 roadrunner, we built a 318 and ran it till 83.
It's the same car that Sonny Stincel now runs with a360 in ss/ja with Lloyd Wofford driving.

If they're looking for the Bennett & Sirianni Camaro, most racers only know that car from the back!!!
