Sportsman
If the non pro is also on the block, anybody interested? Partnership, investment group, etc?
|
YEP! Already been talking about that with some interesting people. Now may be the time.

Jeff,
Sportsman buying out the Sportsman catgories is old and bad news. Peanuts in return for huge financial exposure. And nobody will agree on anything, even if you had some fat cat investor. Adger, I would really like to see your prospectus for taking over the Sportsman side of the sport. Especially your proposed profit; if any. Wally & Co. hope we will all sleep soundly while they try to pass their rather over ripened tomato on to these new suckers....er eh, I mean busnessmen. Of course NHRA never, never, ever would be on the block to begin with. And to think they reached these numbers with a little ol non profit that was written on a poor man's kitchen table. |
Jeff, are you serious? If so lets talk.

"Adger,

No, I just responded that, in simplistic terms, I had been involved in a few conversations about Jeff's topic. As far as available profit, I am of the opinion sportsman racing is & could be very valuable. Sprotsmen racing series, when combined with all the profit sources that weren't sold , could be very profitable. There is more to this racing business than is shown on "Face Value" If there was no value to it I would think Wally & the Boys would have sold it ALL as a package deal. It is my opinion they know they have a product that they can profit from, either by sale or working the product. Adger Smith |
I would like to be on the Board of a new not-for-profit Sportsman racing association. I'll only take a meager $200,000 salary. Well, plus benefits, a car, etc. Just doing what I can to serve the racing community.

Michael,
Would you truly be willing to take such a meager salary with limited benefits such as that? I'm happy to see you would sacrafice your current lifestyle to support this organization. I'm available on a part time basis if needed! |
As long as I don't have to relocate. ;-) And the "etc." was "plus expenses"
I'll handle the website, and help with the magazine and ad/media departments. Only thing is, NHRA Pro Racing has the branding rights. Even if a group bought 'NHRA Sportsman', it would be worthless without the name "NHRA" attached to it. As much as people fuss about them, they also run NHRA because of the name brand. Anybody heard any comments from the TAD TAFC guys or COMP?
Lotsa' investment there, where are they going to play? Just curious Wow, what a day...its a changing world Randall Klein |
I wonder if the new owners will allow their tracks to be used for US Class Nat's or Sportsman's Nats, etc
What tracks are affected? I think that was one of Alex D's problems, was securing a NHRA venue for his US Class Nationals, therefore, Byron Randall Klein |
I don't think some people realize how much work there is involved with putting together and promoting Sportsman races, even on the small scale like what we do out here.
That being said , I'd be glad to help out any way I can. Interested parties ? ........I'm easy to get ahold of. 602-769-0346 markyac@cox.net Mark Yacavone Blue Streak Promotions Old and In The Way |
Randall, For example, Speedworld in Phoenix is now owned by an NHRA Sportsman racer. Places like this are where we need to go.

Adger,
Wow, you were just shoot'n the breeze about it. To me, your post looked very deliberate. Any way send me some numbers if you get that far. NHRA may have attempted to sell the Sportsman racers but we are a very risky investment. And besides the new potential buyers probably did not want us. I mean who would? We all need haircuts. You folks have to remember this deal is a very long way from being a "done deal." They still have a bunch of hurdles to clear. And I'll bet the odds are not in their favor of making this work. Just my humble opinion. |
S/SS/Comp is the best untapped resource in the racing industry. NHRA has never tried to sell it.
There are only millions of baby boomers that grew up with these cars. They may not like the bracket racing part, but when has NHRA showed SS or S like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyksWlC-HFo&NR=1 http://youtube.com/watch?v=zJVYea1AWSg It has never been promoted or sold, and it is time. If you dont try to sell it, it probably will never be sold. Lots of good things lost to obscurity that way. Lynn |
Yes, just talking about it like most of the sportsmen racers. My post was deliberate. I just didn?t accidentally post. :~) As for needing hair cuts, only trims. Most of us are old enough to have lost the top hair.
Even if it doesn?t work & there is some hurdle that can?t be cleared at least we have the words of Wally admitting the sportsmen need & deserve some attention from NHRA. Oops! Did I read too much between the lines of the release from him? Adger Smith |
When you talk about sportsman racing, you're talking about cars of the past mostly makes from the 60,s & 70's. However, look at what the new generation of kids drive and the crowd draw as well as the sponsor support of the Sport Compact Series verses any of the SportsNationals.
Warren O. |
Warren, It is what is promoted. NHRA has let S and SS get less of a show by neglect and not promoting it. Sport Compact was a new kid on the block and an all out attempt. Besides the young kids and girls from what I hear. Try a cruise in and see the old cars AND the young kids taking in the Muscle cars.
If NHRA will allow Mustang and new Camaro and Challenger with competitive motors to run HEADS up not bracket the fun and appeal to younger people will be there too. The bumble bee sounds have died in the Dayton ohio. Real cars are returning. Dick Butler 3529 |
Hey Adger,
I'm never going to talk Kevin out of quitting racing if you keep giving him hope. <just kidding> I hope you and the Mrs are doing well. Tell Bob hello for us. Take care, Sherrie |
Mark Y.....Bill only holds the lease and does not own as far as he has related to me. Out of the two tracks in the area in my opinion I would rather race at Speedworld. Bill is a great guy and correct he is a sportsman racer.
