IHRA Divsion 3 Bracket Finals Question
I'm not sure about this, but I heard the IHRA Bracket Finals in div 3 was run on a practice tree. I heard the weather was bad, but this can not be right, can it?
Maybe some IHRA regulars can shed some light on this. |
Re: IHRA Divsion 1Bracket Finals Question
Ken, Jim Woods was working the event and I spoke with him on Saturday and Sunday. He stated it rained the whole weekend. Previous to the race weekend he told me that IHRA had said the race "must be completed" that weekend. He said nothing about a practice tree however. Jim

Re: IHRA Divsion 1Bracket Finals Question
I assume using a pratice tree to run the bracket finales is just an internet joke
It has to be right? I mean the racers who work week in and week out wouldnt be treated that way right? IHRA the racers friend wouldnt do that would they?? |
Re: IHRA Divsion 1Bracket Finals Question
Well, the NHRA schedule for this weekend says:
NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series presented by PC Richard.com ATCO RACEWAY Atco, NJ October 2-4, 2009 Raindate: Stay till event completed Does "Stay till event completed" mean we could end up in a practice tree match?? Let me know Dave M.. I could bring a tree. |
Re: IHRA Divsion 1Bracket Finals Question
I wasn't there but this is true. no rollout 4 tenths pro tree, lol. And from what i heard they only used 2 LED ambers. I guess they wanted to be green...

Re: IHRA Divsion 3 Bracket Finals Question
This is True! Believe it or not. One of my friends was racing there and sent me a text message. I thought he was joking. I guess they set a rollout of 50 so nobody could go red. Gave everyone a hit or two on the practice tree and went into eliminations. Apparently they were paying all round money and contingency to the finalist. Not sure how I would of felt if I towed all the way out there to run bracket finals and ended up having a practice tree race. I also don't know what there scheduling dilemas were either?

Re: IHRA Divsion 3 Bracket Finals Question
Just talked to Jim Woods again. He said the IHRA had no say as to the way the race was run off. Rain was forecast for the rest of the week. The track operators voted (9-2) to run the race with the practice tree. Four tenths, two ambers, no red lights. Contingencies and payouts were done just like normal. IHRA officials just ran the race for Summit. No decisions were made by IHRA people. Track operators voted and made all decisions. Jim

Re: IHRA Divsion 3 Bracket Finals Question
Then what the heck is this?
How would they get those numbers with a practice tree? http://www.ihra.com/article/5190.html |
Re: IHRA Divsion 3 Bracket Finals Question
The Summit Super Series runoffs were completed earlier in the weekend, along with the Gambler's races. The practice tree was used for the 'main event'. I heard that Beaver Springs, Dragway 42, and Quaker City voted against it.
I'd be dead in the water on a Pro Tree. |
Re: IHRA Divsion 3 Bracket Finals Question
That's just plain silly. I bet the Race of Champions was a real hoot too.
|
Re: IHRA Divsion 3 Bracket Finals Question
Summit Super Series runoffs = Race of Champions. That was among the races completed on-track before it rained.
|
Re: IHRA Divsion 3 Bracket Finals Question
I won a bracket race at Quaker City in 2004 when they just pulled cards!
Got rained out after first round, so if you were still in, they gave you a card then put them all together and "ran" the rounds. ...didn't have to worry about reaction time or lane choice! |
Re: IHRA Divsion 3 Bracket Finals Question
If there was really no opportunity to race Sunday or Monday, and people chose that coming back wasn't an option, then I'm not sure a practice tree tournament was the worst idea. BUT HOW IN THE HELL DO YOU RUN IT ON A PRO TREE SET SUCH THAT NO ONE CAN RED LIGHT? ARE YOU FREAKING SERIOUS?
My son was there running "no box". Shouldn't street and "no box" have left off the bottom in their tournament? And if you do a pro tree, how can you not be able to set your own roll out? So whomever has the fastest reflexes is the winner? What a joke... My son and I are both a little on the slow side (insert punch line here). He never had a chance. I worked on the car for two days straight to get it ready. He worked all season to qualify, spent the money to get there, and endured the nasty conditions. Never had a chance. Potentially, the bracket finals champ is some jackass that can't stage, can't drive the stripe, can't dial, and has a complete pos for a car...but he's got fast reflexes!!! I have no idea what in the hell the track operators were thinking...what a bull**** deal... |
Re: IHRA Divsion 3 Bracket Finals Question
This is hilarious. Are you kidding me? I heard the track op vote was 5-4 in favor. Truthfully, I think I would have just packed up and left. Half the race is because of the car you have and they just took it right out of the equation. Where was the common sense?
|
Re: IHRA Divsion 3 Bracket Finals Question
in my entire 34 years of racing, i have never heard of such a bad idea. i feel bad for the racers who worked long hours, gave up weekends and family time to qualify for the bracket finals, and to have it end like that.

BTW, Dan, I met Thomas at our practice tree (for fun with adjustable roll-out) race on Saturday night. Very nice kid and I had a good time talking to him. He also took a good bit of our money hitting that practice tree. Mark Romeo |
Re: IHRA Divsion 3 Bracket Finals Question
Here it is, ALL electronic drag racing game!! No trailers, no cars, just an electronic box. I thought it would take about 10 years to come to this, but, here we are. I agree with Dan,...just the quickest reflexes? I guess you will need lots of Mountain Dew (the soft drink), cocaine, and Red Bull to win a race. Unreal.

Re: IHRA Divsion 3 Bracket Finals Question
I am still wondering how much stripe the winners were taking. LMFAO.

Re: IHRA Divsion 3 Bracket Finals Question
Dan, That chevelle wagon was awesome in the gamblers race and was top notch.

Re: IHRA Divsion 3 Bracket Finals Question
Kenny -- This kind of thing has been going on in IHRA forever - right here at Atco during the late Seventies I won a National event because of rain - my Kings were high in the card game and made me a winner........
