Live from the Atco Doubleheader-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
3 Attachment(s)
Doubleheader is the word of the weekend and the parking lot shows it - not that there are many trailers in the pits (see pic below ) but because a great many racers ( including myself ) saved spots for others - its a sea of crime scene tape and orange cones everywhere .This time around owner Joe Sway says he'll take 'em all down on Friday morning if their not filled ( reserved spots ) -- and I agree if a 'saved' spot isn't used give it to another .I must say -- when I pulled in around 2pm today it was full already and the race doesn't start 'till Friday -- and this is a Lucas race -- soon I'll have to retire so I can get a decent pit space .
On another note - Brrrrrr- its jacket weather this week -where did Summer go ? Temps even when the Sun comes out will only reach the low Sixties and dipping into the Forties at night - great sleeping weather ! ! As for the wet stuff --forty percent chance on Friday and sixty percent on Saturday with Sunday looking great at this moment .According to the Official NHRA Division One website this race ( both ) has no rain date and the it says we'll stay until completion.....come hell or high water ! ! Speaking of water I hit some on the way here ( see pic below ) but then the Sun came back out some .Later........ |
Re: Live from the Atco Doubleheader-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Hey Jack Ill see you tomorrow about 3pm. Keep the rain away PLEASE ??

Re: Live from the Atco Doubleheader-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
If you do not arrive together you should not be able to save 500' of parking. That is such a pain in the a## when you go to these Divisionals.

Re: Live from the Atco Doubleheader-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
last year at this race I arrived thursday evening before 8 if I recall right. I was dragged down the return road well past the finishline and the area was totally uneven and difficult to work out of. I got pinned in by stockers coming back from their runs and waiting to get weighed. S/C was next and there was no way I could get up there for a good long while. My first run had bad info on the ticket from some electronic issue or something blowing thru the beams. I was offered another run but passed it up as I felt like it would be difficult to make two quick runs being pitted that far away. Atco's pit spaces are very narrow even if you get on pavement and the saving spaces deal is rediculous. I have had enough of trying to race these races and leave it to those that can afford to get there days in advance and sit for endless amounts of time and often in the rain....

Re: Live from the Atco Doubleheader-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Hey maybe if it rains, we should run this off on a practice tree. Or maybe pull cards? Jack you should be familiar with that concept!

And boy oh boy did this place fill up during the night - with the gates open 24 hours racers took advantage and and showed up early . Test n Tune to start at 10 ............ |

Unofficial top of the heap today -- Gary Parker H/SA --11.07 and Jim Boudreau B/SA at 10.07 -Lee Zane made a nice pass around lunch time 10.70 in D/SA- it was pretty sporty out there early but many couldn't get any grip at all .Steve Colabro was one of those -he had his drop dead beautiful early L-88 Corvette out but just spun 'em up bigtime .Sunny with a slight headwind all day - temps never got past low sixties -but still a nice Fall day .More later ..........

Re: Live from the Atco Doubleheader-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
All in all a pretty good day here at Atco -- most got as many runs as they wanted - no one can say they didn't have a chance to tune up before tomorrow's race .Speaking of tomorrow's race its to start early -- 9am sharp we'll start with SuperStreet and move thru all the eliminators with their one and only time trial and then into final eliminations -- probably by noon if things go right .
Mr.Warehime -- I too take one cream in my coffee but I like my coffee with donuts -- very fresh ones ......... WJ -- Its plenty chilly here already ............. Billy -- when you get a moment give me a shout . I'll check in later -- "Uncle Buck" has a pork loin on the grill ................. |
Re: Live from the Atco Doubleheader-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Thanks for the up date. How fast did you go Jack.:)

Don't like this at all -- 6:30 and its still dark out- we all know what season is coming here in the Northeast and I for one am not looking forward to it .This morning chilly is not the word I would use - its downright cold at 46 degrees here with the high today to reach only mid-sixties .
Many were wondering why things ended early yesterday -- it happened because the NHRA officials and track management decided the track got way too cold to hold high HP cars in the grove and most thought this was a prudent move --the racers who were in the lanes waiting lost only one run at the most . Many teams arriving this morning and with some leaving last night believe it or not there is room for them - the place is full but I've seen it much worse -- the "cluster" that was expected hasn't happened and so far it looks like we'll be OK ...........later . Sterlin' -- my numbers yesterday were nothing to brag about ! ! ! |
Re: Live from the Atco Doubleheader-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
8:50 AM- Weather update -- 55 degrees , 29.88 barometer , 274' DA -- pretty sporty out there -- they just called SuperStreet to the lanes - Stock out next ...............
|
Re: Live from the Atco Doubleheader-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
We finally got finished -- just after we started Lenny Williams bombed his trans in the lights and we were down more than an hour - his explosion was so violent that Bob Bender was in the other lane and ran over some of Williams parts and blew out a rear tire but was OK .Lenny is in the middle of changing his trans as I type this .
Most racers were off .03 to .05 from yesterday .Wheelie of the round goes to Bobby Broadbent in his B/S 69 Camaro who had 'em up in the air during first , second and third gears while going straight thank God . Mr.Wareheim-- forget the donuts as our good friend Jimmy Carter saved the day by bringing by a box of Dunkin Donuts finest .................... SuperStock coming out soon ............. |

Re: Live from the Atco Doubleheader-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
I really love to give you guys (and gals) some sheet results from Stock and S/S but because of cars from both races running that round they aren't going to print one until tomorrow ,this also goes for Comp .
Angelo -- Weather for tomorrow is iffy but they are going to run the race no matter what -- so as they say --"come on down". Stephan -- Diner is a good idea ....... Greg -- Food Lion ??? |
Re: Live from the Atco Doubleheader-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
What's going on down there? Heard 2 comp cars crashed, Charlie Greco (he's ok) and Alan Stanfield. Don't know anything else

This was posted on DRC at 7:08PM at the bottopm of Rd 3 of Comp Elim:
Racing is done for the evening. Racing will resume at 9:00 am tomorrow. The rain-delayed spring race will pick up in the morning and continue to completion. There will then be one time run for all classes for the October race. After that, the fall race will be run until it is finished. |
Re: Live from the Atco Doubleheader-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
After one round of everything was finished Comp was in round three and they had another crash - can't tell who but after about twenty minutes they announced that racing was concluded for the day without giving any reasons whatsoever .They will pick it up where they left off at 9am tomorrow ..........more when I know ...........

Here's the skinny on today -- track prep is underway and SuperStreet has been called for a 9am start with Stock to follow .Partly cloudy skies with a slight chance of rain -- 63 degrees with a whopping 84 % humidity that should burn off if the Sun shows its face - that coupled with a barometer of 29.73 ends up with a final DA of just over eleven hundred feet .This day could go either way and we're hoping for the best as the schedule is packed for today .Later ............

Well gang here it is -- I just didn't have time for you today for a change -- went some rounds -- got some points and most of all -- had some fun ! ! Got down to six and "young gun" Pires put a .012 on me and that was that .But a great day for me none-the-less
By the way were on rain hold at the moment but as they say - you never know ....... |
Re: Live from the Atco Doubleheader-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Those New England guys.....trouble. Best wishes, you had a great day. BTW, it's been pouring up here all day---nasty.:DWJ

Re: Live from the Atco Doubleheader-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
7:15PM - Its wet --not raining but dewie -- and they just called S/S to the lanes for a time shot -- what a waste -- stockers ran 2 hours ago and most lost anywhere from .08 to .14 --- it got that bad -- no air and no traction - great combo .....they probably should call it for the night before they send SuperGas out ..........

Re: Live from the Atco Doubleheader-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Mother nature has not been a strong NHRA DIV 1 supporter this year....Not much can be done to change the weather, so make some fun time with friends until the annual hibernation begins.....

Re: Live from the Atco Doubleheader-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Last night they did pull the plug before SuperGas made their run and those racers are simply in shock - why - they can't believe that this morning they'll still get their run as we're going to pick-up right where we left off last night .
Since SuperGas got deleted last night "Uncle Buck" and his group got cookin' and did they have a crowd in no time flat . BTW- they had a grilled/smoked ribeye deal that was fabulous - Ron (aka "Uncle Buck") out did himself with that dish .I wanted to take pictures but we all know those SuperGas guys are camera shy . Congrats to Mr. Massel - long ride - long season - great ending .And he went out the gate last night after completing what he came here to do . Next time any of you run into Marc LeBreque of Diamond RV ask him how you can get cable in your coach - he has the answer . His answer may take a few minutes so be prepared . We start early again this morning -- 9am sharp if the weather holds out - at the moment its overcast but with mild temps - all that go fast air has disappeared and we're back from cloud nine . One last thing -Kudos should go out to the Joe Sway /Atco team along with Bob Langs' NHRA staff -- even with the bad weather - crashes - oildowns and the fact that we're doing a double there is a good possibility we could finish today - well done boys ..........so far very well done . They just announced that the Stock ladder posted last night is junk and a new one is posted .In the backround I can hear Anthony Fetch cheering as he was to have another heads-up first thing this morning - maybe he should go buy a lottery ticket this day . I hear the Jet -- we all know what that means .......later . |
Re: Live from the Atco Doubleheader-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Stock round 2 stats -- 7 redlights - three heads-ups - H/SA w/Young winning -- D/SA w/Zane winning and B/SA w/Welker winning .Fetch had another bye as DeMarzo didn't show . Steve Calabro spun big again .Ficcaci had an earned bye .
Stock round 3 coming up-Heads up Between Adam Kier and Fletcher A/SA . S/S round 2 up now . Doesn't look like we'll finish today ........... |
