Live from the Dinwiddie, VA - NHRA Virginia Nationals
9 Attachment(s)
Well folks, I'm going to give a shot at "live from" this weekend. As most of you know the car count is low for this race. There is plenty of room to park and no lines at the credential trailer, tech was also very quick.
Stock gets three shot as do all the other classes. Stock is at first out at 9:00 am. The weather is supposed to be warm but the morning shot will be about 65 with a high barometer. l here some of the cars that run B will be in A, I guess there trying not to get hp. Boudreau, Hawk I here are both in A. Ryan McClanahan is running B. I took some pictures and hope to get some more tomorrow. |

Just got back from first qualifying for stock. Can't give you any numbers, but the air was 1500ft, temp 70, hum 60, and bar 29.78. cross wind about 4. The track was a little slick. More than a few got out of shape.
We Should get three shots today, weather will be good for the day. Its getting warm quick, so I don't think there will be any fast numbers. Will do Scott, I'm using a camera phone, shots are not that good, but I will do my best later today. |
Re: Live from the Dinwiddie, VA - NHRA Virginia Nationals
Thanks for the posts. I think Brian is driving the Pontiac. Tell him hi from his biggest fan. I guess you better say hi to Ryan and Gary too.

Scott, I got some more pictures for you. It does not do this car justices. Rusty told me it has only 18,000 miles with the original interior and paint.
Floyd, I stand corrected, I did talk to Ryan for a little bit yesterday, I guess I misunderstood him. The CJ is very fast as you all know, we just got back from the 2nd qualifying. The CJ went 9.83 again at 139. Its a few slower then the first run, but not for him. |
Re: Live from the Dinwiddie, VA - NHRA Virginia Nationals
Thanks Ken.
I've got a great picture of me putting a hole shot on Brian in the Pontiac. I don't know how to post it. |
Re: Live from the Dinwiddie, VA - NHRA Virginia Nationals
Scott, the blue Fairlane is my pal Rusty Johnson. It's a '67 that runs E/SA with a 390 with the Edelbrock heads and PI intake. It had a 427 with a 4 speed when he got it a few years ago. It is an amazingly original low mileage car. Everything still works, up to and including the horn! He's from the Atlanta area and also has a B/SA '69 Mustang that he brings out from time to time.

Re: Live from the Dinwiddie, VA - NHRA Virginia Nationals
All of Rusty's cars are pristine! He has some fine looking and running FORDs. Nice pics Ken but aren't there any MoPars there? Jim

Re: Live from the Dinwiddie, VA - NHRA Virginia Nationals

No problem Scott, but I wish Jack was doing this instead, Jack are you listing. Just got back from the last qualifying shot.
The air was not good, bar dropped to 29.56 and humidity also went up. All in all it was a good day and we are supposed to be out first thing in the morning for first round, weather permitting. I took some more pictures of stock in the staging lanes waiting for there last qualifying run., I found some Mopars Jim. |

Re: Live from the Dinwiddie, VA - NHRA Virginia Nationals
Heck, Kenny, truth be known, I wish I WAS THERE doing the reporting and photos. however, my life, like most, is filled with elementary school aged children, work, wife, pets, etc and it is unlikely I will get to return to the best racing in the country, which in my experience, is anywhere east of the Mississippi.
I miss Columbus and Norwalk, Maple grove, Englishtown, keystone, Kil Kare, Edgewater, Bowling Green-can you tell I grew up in Columbus when muscle cars were a fairly new concept and 5 night a week racing was possible? |
Re: Live from the Dinwiddie, VA - NHRA Virginia Nationals

Bobby Bender has a point -- I'm not there and its not raining .....Hmmmmmm ! ! ! Weekend isn't over yet . |

Thanks Bob,
Well the dreaded rains came in early this morning. No rain now and the sun is trying to peak out. The forecast is for a 50% chance of rain today. They are drying the track now and Stock is supposed to be first out for eliminations. The weather looks great for tomorrow, and with the low car counts, I think there should be no problem getting this race finished on sunday |
Re: Live from the Dinwiddie, VA - NHRA Virginia Nationals
Thanks for the pics!
Another fan of the Fairlane here. |
Re: Live from the Dinwiddie, VA - NHRA Virginia Nationals
Update, they called us to the lanes about 9 am. They were still working on the track. The right lane was not holding any rubber down. I guess the early rain was enough to screw things up. Just as they finished working on the track 3 hours later, it started to rain. About a 1/3 of the cars went back to their trailers as did I. I would have stayed, but its time for lunch.
Light rain and still on hold. |

Re: Live from the Dinwiddie, VA - NHRA Virginia Nationals
Well folks, as some of you might know, I lost fist round. I left right after the loss and I am already home. The weather is supposed to be perfect today, although I'm not there, I have it on good authority that it is.
Last night when they ran us after pro mod the track was in great shape, the air was good and bite was great. The air changed dramatically from the morning when we were supposed to run. Dialing the car was going to be a challenge, and being out first was not what I wanted to do, but someone's got be first. Anyway, it was a good weekend even with the rain delays. I hope everyone enjoyed the pictures and updates form VA. |
