Whats the scoop on the 1909 tire why is this not listed?

Goodyear is not making any 1909 tires now. I spoke with someone at goodyear south and they said they may make some more when they have enough demand to justify making them. Btw they also quit making the 13 x 31 radial. I don't recall the part number off hand.

George, were the 31x13 radials number D4459? I think I got the last set from the best little speed shop in Michigan City.
As for the 1909s, In the winter of 2010 I was looking for a set to use on a new car project. I was told that they were on hold until the got fifty orders for tires, then they would make them. I got tired of waiting and calling and finally in the fall of 2010 I ordered some M/T tires and had them the next day.
We don't sell many so we don't have any inventory and we don't have any inventory so we don't sell many. Sounds self defeating to me. If i go to a steakhouse they better have a steak there for me I will go someplace else and not come back. I don't think most of us are managing their tire inventory and looking six months out. When I need new tires, I need them NOW.
I'm getting ready to buy another set of slicks for a stick shift stocker, not getting good answers back yet from Goodyear. Don't they want my money? Oh yeah and I bought the "these radials are just for stick cars" set a few years ago. They sit in a corner of my shop with the rest of the things that don't work. Ok, I got that off my chest.

Yes. The D4459 is the radial tire that they have "temporarily" discontinued. I spoke to them in June and they said to check back occasionally. They said they would make the D4459s if there was demand for them. Meanwhile I ended up with 1 brand new D4459 (long story) and this tire would work perfectly on one of my cars. I just need 1 more new one.

You know I have had good luck with the D07 9X30 Hoosier tires! You will not be disappointed!

Joe, Will be in the market to replace my 1909's soon. How do the Hoosiers you mention compare ,performance wise , to the 1909....if you have experienced them as well.
Are you going to 131 (IHRA) this weekend?

I have a pair of those with fifteen pass I would sell.

Thanks Ed. But I just want one new 4459 to go with the one new 4459 I already have. Now if you have some new 1909s....

John, the 1909's would not fit on my car. They were a bit too tall. I've heard great things about them though. I did try the 9 x 30 D4A compound once and was not impressed with them. They were good about the first 20 runs and that was about it. The Hoosiers are consistent throughout and last much longer. I will not be at 131 this weekend.

Joe,
What gear do you run using the Hoosier tire?

Thanks
Keith

Re: goodyear 1909 slick

Joe, What tire pressure are you running with the Hoosier?
Put a new set on Saturday, ran at 10 and 9 on two respective passes.....spun like crazy.
Talked to Hoosier today, they felt I need to up it to around 12.
I'm on a 10 inch rim BTW.

Lost .04 in the 60 ft. and the video shows excessive spin. Data recorder was not working, so no hard data other than the 60'.
Any help/advice is appreciated.

When I spoke to Goodyear Midwest about the 29x10 bias not being available this year, the person called Carroll Shelby in Las Vegas. He said they are the biggest Goodyear supplier outside of the warehouse and maybe they would have a pair.
It wouldn't hurt to check with them to see if 1 of the 4459 is available somewhere and is a close rollout match.

Re: goodyear 1909 slick

How many runs are you guys getting before the Do7's seem to go away?

I run a 4 speed car similar to an A/S, and get about 40 to 50 runs. Did not know if that is pretty consistent with A, B/S guys are what.

Don't know about the goodyears but when the Hoosier's go away they go away very quickly!!!
