Toc rescheduled

Rescheduled for the Spring at Rockingham.

Thanks to IHRA for getting this out so we can make plans.

Where did you see that announced?

I got it in an e-mail from IHRA a couple hours ago.

Isn't that special.
Now all of us outside of division 9 get to tow thousands of miles again!

Re: Toc rescheduled

Alex,
We can visit with you when at the Moser (900miles one way).
I really think they needed to finish this before the 2010 season began.
I'm just glad they made a decision.

Re: Toc rescheduled

At least the moser shootout pays $500 to first round loser. You have to get to 8 cars to get one cent in the TOC. And the first 3 years the Moser shootout was held at Rockingham and Dinwiddie.. Its also held in August, and everyone has been out and sorted out their stuff by then. You don't lose 2nd round because a water plug fell outta the block and they shut you off on the line, like happened to me in 2000.

THE LEGEND 11-16-2009 12:42 PM

Re: Toc rescheduled

Michael,
You need to complain to your engine builder instead of IHRA about the water plug.LOL
CHip

Michael Lyons 11-16-2009 12:50 PM

Re: Toc rescheduled

I don't need to complain to anyone, stuff happens first time on the track of a new season after just puting two race cars back together. I actually had delays getting to Rockingham barely got there in time for first round, unloaded the car and made my first run of the year in the first round of the shootout. No time runs or nothing.

Michael Lyons 11-16-2009 12:53 PM

Re: Toc rescheduled

Heck the other car was in the trailer and wouldn't even fire, I had to take the body off and figure out what was wrong with it before I bothered to buy an entry for it..

Michael Lyons 11-16-2009 01:25 PM

Re: Toc rescheduled

So let me get this straight, they're gonna make everyone have to drive back to Rockingham, have a national event, the allstar races and the TOC all in one weekend?! Isn't that how we got in this mess in the first place?.. Whats the definition of insanity? Attempting to do the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
What happens if it gets rained out again? And what happens to the prize money if IHRA goes into bankruptsy between then and now? Not to mention this year Rockingham was on the same weekend as the div 3 race at Indy. I just don't get it, nothing seems to make any sense to me anymore.

Re: Toc rescheduled

The Spring Rockingham Nitro Jam was originally scheduled for 2 days - Sat. & Sun. The letter we got says that the TOC will be held on Friday. I guess the ROC will be held then also but I don't believe it was actually mentioned.

THE LEGEND 11-16-2009 02:07 PM

Re: Toc rescheduled

They are still looking at Alternative sites and dates for the All-Stars. Which I don't like because it means more travel.
Have it all at the same place I don't care where lets JUST GET IT ON.

Michael I've had some trips like your Rockingham trip. Kinda makes you wonder WHY we continue on.????????????

Re: Toc rescheduled

Mike hit the nail on the head. This is the definition of insanity.

SO, we are going to get at least one time run + one hit for qualifying off reaction time and then a complete, more than likely six round race (once you re-insert the div. champs for round two) for seven classes done in one day. Yeah, right. That's pretty pie in the sky dreaming there - and that's providing it doesn't rain, the track isn't too cold, too hot, too sticky, too dewey, no wrecks, no oil downs. If ANY of those things occur, then it just doesn't seem possible. I am typically an eternal optimist. Today, I am wearing my eternal realist hat.

Chip's right, might as well run the All Stars there too, since most of us will have to be there anyway.

PS - looks like Rockingham is already on top of a NHRA Div 1 race.

Re: Toc rescheduled

As a former track operator you can run 7 different classes in a 6 round race in one hour more than one six round race. The cool down is what takes so long in a short field. So you can easily run a 260 car divisional with 2 time runs and a 4 hour rain delay in one day. Piedmont did it this year.

Michael Lyons 11-16-2009 03:09 PM

Re: Toc rescheduled

It took basically 3 hours to run one round of time runs on Thursday at Rockingham. we started 2 rounds at 1:30 and finished around 8pm. I was near the front of 2nd rd T/D(last class out) and my time slip said 7:44 pm I believe. Maybe the guys from Piedmont can come down and run the race for them... :P

THE LEGEND 11-16-2009 04:01 PM

Re: Toc rescheduled

In div 9 we usually get over 200 cars at a div race. They normally start around noon and are done in around 5 hours with no TT. Add 3 hours for TT and you're looking at 8 hrs.
Start at 9 done well before dark.

Micheal,
That 3 hr TT included the Sportsnational cars.

Just took notice that TOC rescheduled on top of Div 1 opener Atco,N.J.. I would think Bryan won"t be going either.

Re: Toc rescheduled

Yes I know chip, how many cars do you think will be there for Saturdays race. Yes the TOC will get done first but the allstars and springnats will most likely run over until monday again based on there being a similar amount of cars for that race. And thus another 6 days off work to start the year. And better be careful there Chip, you sound like a hypocrite when you say you don't want to travel for the other shootout. lol
Which raises another question, why do they have the larger payout races in NC? If you're from out of state you lose 4% of the prize money before you even get it! Why does NC deserve a piece of the prize money, they extort and prosecute their own, just ask the Binghams. By the time you make two trips to NC, pay NC taxes and then ultimately ones own state and federal taxes at the end of the year, you'd be lucky to net $6000 of the original $10,000!! Am I the only one who sees this? I mean is that why they moved the Moser shootout after only one year? 4% of $22,500 is an unpleasant hit. Especially after you already did a split.

WAKE UP it is just a matter of time before other states do the same thing!! If you earn $$ in NC it is taxed as income which it is! Just like if you were working in Detroit then you would owe Detroit City Income tax!!! Just a sign of the times. If you don't agree with this then just don't go to those states.

I would have never raced in NC again if not for this tournament. And thats my point exactly why have big money races in states that add an additional tax to the ones I will ultimately pay? Isn't that why our forefathers came to this country and had a revolutionary war, because of excessive taxation without representation? As far as I'm concerned all these governments need to go, the ones that triple tax their working taxpayers first! God bless the first and second amendments!

Michael,
Hypocrite is a little harsh don't you think.
I think all the shootouts should be done at one place. Wherever that is I'll go if I'm in. Lets just do it.

When was the Moser Shootout ever in NC? It was at VMP for several years, Norwalk once or twice, and then has been at US131 since.

If I recall, the "out-of-towners" tax is applied to those making more than $1,501, so this would only effect the Pros, the All Stars winner, and the winner of TS or TD.

That being said, YES, taxes are the one thing that sucks about this state. They jacked our sales tax to 7.75% this summer, and raised fees on a bunch of things. Way to go, Ms. Governor.

Actually it was 2001, the first Moser Mania, held at the Rock, Todd Comer won and Danny Waters was runner up. I was shut off next to Danny 2nd round. Then it went to VMP.

Not having the All Stars race with the TOC is a big mistake! Every All Star is qualified for the TOC, so why not have that race too??? This is why I suggested having ONLY those two races when they rescheduled them! They just won't learn from their mistakes!

Hey Beard. The TOC winner gets $10,000!! How much would be taken out for NC taxes???

$400 - and $200 for the All Stars winner. That alone should make IHRA reconsider this location. If they insist on having these big money races, this should be part of the consideration when scheduling them.

Re: Toc rescheduled

All states have laws that require a non-resident to pay income tax on income earned in a state. As you can imagine, few file non-resident returns and claim that income so more and more the states are withholding to make sure the state gets their tax. It is a withholding of tax, not a tax, so all you have to do is file a non-resident return for the state and get your refund. Also, states have reciprocity agreements with each other so if you do pay tax in another state you get a credit on one of the returns so the income isn't technically double-taxed.

I'm sure you can come up with enough expense to cover taxes, like fuel ,maintanance, time off work, food ,lodging ect........ Pretty sure an accountant can help you find things . Every $100.00 dollars i make here in NC i get around $70.00. I don't like it either. But i ain't leaving my GRAND CHILDREN & FAMILY to pay lower taxes. NC taxes , i don't like it ,but it is what it is.
