What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
I don't know about you, but I have a hard time getting excited with all the negitive posting lately. I do realize that sometimes we need to vent. I also know that it is important to educate, on the issues detrimental to the sport here on the forum. To the folks that bring these issues to light, I say thank you! however, I would like this thread to be in the positive mode. Tell us about your bright plans for 2010 ie. your new/up graded racer, new rig, new and/or shop upgrade, racing plans etc. (don't forget the photos)!
I will start by saying that my 60 Corvette for Super/Stock project is comming along just fine. The chassis/frame is complete except for some front suspension goodies. I am currently doing the fiberglass portion of the build including body repair, upgrades (filling unwanted holes everywhere) and fabrication (building molds for fiberglass parts) . This work is very labor intensive, and can be aggravating at best. Especially when most of this work will never be seen by anyone. But attention to detail has helped earn several "Best Engineered Awards" for me. All of the long hours and extra effort will yield a first class piece of equitment. I am looking for completion sometime in late spring to early summer of 2010. Can't wait to get it out there, and see what all the fuss is about. Look for a Flame Red Corvette (or possibly candy apple red) with White coves, small tire, and a little motor running two or three under the index! LOL (photos on my profile here on CR) HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE Wade Mahaffey |
Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
Jeggs still has a racer discount. A lot of new cars will be in A/SA and AA/SA. My new camshaft, that will deliver an extra 150 hp. at the rear wheels, will be finished just in time for Indy. NHRA will continue its dedication to be fair and unbiased while continuing to enhance our rapeing experience.:)

Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?

Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
Wade,
Great thread, but be prepared for the cynical members to try to bring your positive attitude down. Here is a positive note, 7 weeks to Pomona and there is already over 300 cars entered. I thinks its going to be a good year for racing with more participation. I know I can't wait to start racing, I hope to be at Orlando Div and the Gator's to start the season. |
Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
It is acceptable to offer a semi-negative response, provided a coating of sugar is applied evenly thru-out. Nicely done Mr. Hill LOL
Vic and Ken, good luck that's right, get after-um early and often! Ken, I can understand the cynical point of view. But there's nothing wrong with trying to see a little sunshine through the clouds. Be happy just to be able to see.....some folks can't. My positive attitude will remain in tact, because I love what I do! If one wants to be upset or negative I have an attitude adjustment idea. Go spend the day at Childrens Hospital, that'll fix you right up! |

Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
Due to medical issues and costs with my children & husband, Jared's final law school expenses and his wedding expenses, I have done no racing with my car since November 2007. I don't race out of my savings account so, rather than risk running on empty, I opted to park my car for a while. Don Little is finishing up my new motor and I'm looking forward to hitting the racetrack again in May when I go to the Boise divisional. I'm hoping my fellow competitors will be easy on me as I'm going to be as rusty as a bucket of old bolts! I have nightmares wondering if I remember how to do a burnout! But my philosophy is "better to have raced and lost than never to have raced at all!" I'll probaby be terrible but I will have fun!!

Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
Ill have someone buying me dinner at Pomona after our car runs further under than theirs.
Ill be DONE with the build on the #24 Dp and can enjoy it with the old man. And start another DP..... Ill have a whole new crew of racers (these guys called Class Racers:) to annoy and ratlle their cages and have them say my favorite words when they didnt think of it first "HEY YOU CANT DO THAT !" I have a whole new set of rules to figure ways to circumvent while doing it legally.....thats my favorite..... Ill have a whole new set of "momento" items filling my shop shelves (i.e. broken stuff from running it light and hard) And Ill have some great stories to tell for when I get old... MOST Importantly.... Hopefully by mid year Ill have a 23 year old blonde tall well built girlfriend that speaks no english so I dont have to fight with her, oh and shell be independently wealthy..........hey a guy can dream right.... |
Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
Ill be happy if my oldest son finished High School....let alone law school....
I always say of all the things Ive dont only 1 every mattered and that is my kids and you should be very very proud. Nothing else I ever do will matter as much as the love I have and show my kids...nothing. Congrats ! 2 or 3 years off racing dosent sound like much....the tracks will still be there for you ! Quote:

Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
Wade, not to drag this post in a different direction, but I have been following the build of your 'vette and hats off to you. You do very nice work and am glad to see some early iron, errrr glass, being built for SS.
Love those early vettes!! |
Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
Wade,
Happy New Year, and the Vette work is looking good. I have always liked your cars, since first meeting you with the street roadster back in Bristol, years ago! I wish I had your touch and patience for details... I am getting my 67 Firebird Convertible running finally. Will have a crate motor in it this year, and then we will see how long it takes to get the Pontiac motor ready. Rear suspension, cage, most of front end complete... still have all the little stuff like wires, fuel system, interior to put back in, etc... Work and kids have slowed me down, but not stopped me! Chris, if you are ever in the Dallas area let me know. I will buy you a cup of coffee and swap some stories. Good luck to everyone for the new year. God Bless! Ken |
Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
Wade, I am sorry for the typo it should have been raceing instead of rapeing.

Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
Thank you SSDA Hemi, Ken for those kind words and I still have the old Roadster. Now it's a street rod, Orange with a small block and a 5-speed stick. Rowing that stick on the street is so much fun ! (Photos on my profile..at the bottom of albums...click on...show all albums )
Larry, I took the liberty to have your name removed from double secret probation status LOL my friend ! |
Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
For me it is getting back into class racing after a 36 year absence. I'll have the Duster ready to go for the first Division Seven race at Firebird. I have been bracket racing for the past 7 years but I am really looking forward to running a class car.

Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?

Hopefully we can race a little more this year.... Happy New Year everyone....... Rock Haas |
Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
I thought Larry WAS being positive with his original post, as it seems the NHRA loves raping and pillaging the sportsman racers. I just thought....he'd been thru it for so long, well, I guess he's looking forward to it. We all know it's coming, right? So congrats to Larry for being positive!

Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
I'm with you Julie, but been out of the driver's seat much longer due to a crash injury. I'm so looking forward to driving my adorable and fun sloooowww stocker this year.
Don't have nightmares sweetie, as soon as you get back in the burn out box everything will come back to you. You may be a little rusty but as long as you're having fun, who cares? Good luck! Quote:

Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
Supposedly my car will get out of the chassis and engine shop early this year. Somehow I doubt it...:(
But I do know that when it's done...it will be a killer! :D |
Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
It used to seem like such a long time between the last race of the year and the first race of the next year. Seemed like winter would last forever.
Now it seems that there's hardly enough time in the off season to get even a portion of the things done that I wanted to get done for the new season. Anyhow, my son and his family were up over the holidays and he got me out into the garage with us working together and I can't believe how much fun we had. Just like old times. Then I realized what the difference was. It's hard to get motivated when it's just you. Boy, I wish he didn't live 800 miles away. But, he keeps reminding me that it was me that moved away, not him. Bottom line, it sure is a lot more fun when you have someone to share "working on the race car with". BS'ing and talking abouit how you're going to come out swinging the new season ready to kick some serious butt. That was the element that's been missing and I didn't realize it till now. |
Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
We have relocated our business and home to a new location in Cornelius, N.C. Very excited already with the initial response from new and old customers. Look forward to a great new future and life!! Cornelius is located 10 mins. south of Mooresville and 20 mins. north of Charlotte on Lake Norman. If anyone in the area , do stop in and say Hey. Very easy to get to, right off Exit 28 on Rt. 77.

Hopefully I will figure the tuneup out on my new car. Has anyone seen a contingency posting for IHRA or NHRA. Might have time to add or replace stickers.

Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
We will hopefully be out racing with and seeing more of our D1 friends than last season.

Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
I'll have my new motor together in about 2 weeks. The car should be ready to go the first week of Feb.

Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
I'm very excited and ready for 2010! I will be racing stock eliminator in division 9 with a '88 thunderbird turbo. Slow but oh so much fun to watch in the mirror as people are coming for ya. Will no longer be in the staging lanes at the Nitro Jam events, I have a new job working the safety team at the top end of ALL the Nationals. All my old friends and hopefully some new ones will just have to take an extra minute after the turn to say hello. This has always been my dream and 2010 is bringing it to a reality. Can't wait, see you guys at Palm Beach!

Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
Turning my 69 chevelle that I've had since 1973 into a stocker. Going to run some Heartland S\SS races and some local points races.I have had alot of help from some of the Heartland guys. Alot of thanks (or blame) goes to Joe Veronda who has shared everything he's learned getting started in stock the last few years.

Re: What's New in 2010......on the positive side?
I am working hard to hopefully finish my 2 1/2 year project of building my first stocker. It is a '69 Camaro AA/S, or A/S. We are trying to have it out for the February NHRA Div 2 Bradenton race.
