Name this car contest, design the paint.....

Ok all friends and foes here at Class Racer, and after all the helpful suggestions I do see you as a valauble resource for my overworked and overactive brain and imagination.

I had this "Idea" about a month back but havent had the time to pursue it properly, I think it has merit for us, and may be a big benefit to another business or website out there. Heck....maybe even Class Racer would be interested.

We sort of have a name for the car .... actually its a lack of any better name "Hemicidal Maniac" yeah not soo exciting....

And while Im sure some may respond to this thread with a name Id like a WHOLE lot to choose from and check to make sure were not copying an already used name....our egos, mine and the old mans dont dictate anything to us in terms of 'look' or even name...Im content to run the car all white with big black letters that say CAR......It has an allure...but like ive said were minimalists.

I bounced this idea to several Dodge/Challenger forums and got 2 responses back....1 looked promising until he kept asking for more and more real estate and covering only part of the Wrap costs.....yeah sorry not gonna happen.

All Im looking at is to have the cost of the wrap covered...I have someone willing to do that for no charge for a small section of real-estate on the car, or for COST if I will distribute flyers trackside at my trailer with a "magazine rack" style wire thing. But they need print ready art...and Im not an artist and dont have time to track down through my graphics artist friends, and second....well Im still lacking a name and paint scheme that POPS.

Here is what I sent......I thought maybe some of you out there would know of a vendor, or site that may be interested in running the contest to draw traffic to their site, it helps build interest in our car and seems like a win/win.....And it helps to draw repetitive traffic to theirs, they would have to decide / handle prizes if there were to be any other than being the person to.....If I had more time I would look into promoting it myself....but I dont have time.....as it looks now the car will be running BIW for Pomona with black letters saying CAR on it.....

The below was sent to 4 people 2 responses, but 1 was him haw, and the other tried to get greedy , end of conversation. This info was sent about a month ago...so some is out of date, like classes and car status. As well as the driver status, which is now finalized. And the pic is from about a month ago, its just the only 1 I had with the hood in paint.

I have what may , or may not be a unique opportunity for you.

My name is Chris Wertman I am currently building Drag Pak #24, my father was the Purchaser of the #24 Challenger Drag Pak, the car has completed its initial build and just received its interior, trunk and engine compartment paint.

We plan to campaign the car across the country in all National NHRA events barring mechanical failure, as well as a significant amount of Regional events whose dates do not conflict with the National Schedule.
We will be campaigning the car in A/SA, B/SA with the 6.1 engine combo and D/SA, E/SA and F/SA with the 5.7 combo, we have a National record potential car across 5 CLASSES !

We have not as of yet decided on a paint scheme, or even a name for the car, the only name that has been thrown around is "Hemicidal Maniac" but were not sure about it. We are going to have the car "Wrapped" as not to alter the original "Body In White" of the car.

Last night I was thinking, as I often do, how to kill a whole lot of birds
with one stone.

Here are our issues.
1)We have no graphics background for design
2)We have concentrated our efforts on everything BUT appearance.
3)We would like to have the wrap "sponsored"
4)While we have extensive racing contacts, this car being a 2009 Challenger and a New Drag Pak car have much greater reach potential and exposure.

Here is what we have to offer.
1)Exposure for the participating site to run a contest for either or both,
Design of paint scheme and Name.
2)"Associate" or name based location for the backing site on the cars final wrap
3)National attention of both trade magazines and National Dragster as our car campaigns through the season
4)We are still finalizing driver details but it will be 1 of 2 National
Champions and record holders.

If this sounds like something you and your site may be interested in
discussing further I can be reached at

330-808-8487

The car has just been unmasked and will be detailed today and tomorrow as stated the car is all white at current, but the potential wraps give us for wild Graphics schemes is nearly unlimited but not permanent.

Re: Name this car contest, design the paint.....

Already used about a dozen times...although I did think of "Here today gone tommorow" that would make a few people happy....or "Droozes Revenge" or "Droozes Folly" depeding on how the first few races go :)

My son was going to cover himself in red paint and slide down the hood and front bumper if we named it Hemicidal Maniac....but we thought that was a "bit" over the top and might offend some people....and the NHRA...

Well, here are a few that may or may not get your creative juices going, as you can go the route that is unique to you, heritage related, funny, etc.

Mine is named after a heritage and geography based theme. Minuteman Missle. Geography based ie the minutemen, the actual ICBM named in their honor, and as a heritage piece tied to the Mopar and Motown Missle

I may be able to get a letterman style top ten in here:

#1 Secret squirrel.....to my knowledge your phrase....Squirl cloaked in dark out fit, think spy versus spy....
#2 medical miracle....medical history of your clan....
#3 dead man driving......since you died twice on the track....but only if you are driving..you could have fun with that
#4 #24 with a cool action shot from the tv series
#5 Something Ohio related
#6 Bunny Boy from your photo
#7 You could name it after your girlfriend, wife, or kids
#8 Faster then U(but ony if its real fast....may want to test first)
#9 Smarter than U......(again be sure you can back that up)
#10 And lastly since you don't want to something a bit weak like Humble Hemi, or cute like Hemi Houligan, if you really want to make a statement just call it the
Record Setter.......
#11 That #$#$@# Hemi though is pretty good

Re: Name this car contest, design the paint.....

Sign name ? you mean like handle ? for the forums ?

just drooze....it means nothing....litterally nothing, I loked it up in the dictionary years ago and well it wasnt there, I have another "Nick Name" that was given to me by friends "Major"......well the whole thing is "Major Dick" but well....a lot of my friends call me either Major or Dick...loooooonnnnggg story.

But well for some places I needed a "Family Friendly" handle so one night years ago everything I tried was "taken" so .... it became drooze....

I dont want to put anyones name on the car, certainly not mine....dosent make sense for us multiple drivers, and a TEAM effort...as much as our band of mistreants can be called a Team......if anything it would be something to do with the old man, his car....his CB handle and license was under "Grand Slam" back in the 60's .... Ill have to ask him the Origin....never thought about it till now.

The old man had me letter a car in "Major Dick" once......track didnt like it...Im sure the NHRA would have a stroke....Now people ask where I am, as Ive been a bit sequestered in the shop...I tell my friends to tell them the Major got promoted....hes now just a General.......:D

Drooze.

With all these cars coming out of the factory the same ...call it... COOKIE CUTTER..
Or with all the bitchin going about these cars call it....EVOLUTION....The wrap could include all the engineering things that were used to create the hemis....Micrometers, dividers, slide rules, etc...all the way up to the computers with all their charts and graph's ....include shadow pictures of all the famous hemi's ,including Bonneville, Nascar, Drag Racing, etc..
you could make the wrap one of those things that you just have to go look at.
Good luck.

Re: Name this car contest, design the paint.....

Dic I SOOOOO Wish that were true...the Challenger unlike the SCJ's is more of a Second Hand Garage Sale model kit where the kid who owned it horked the wild stuff and used it on another project...there might be SJCs that are alike but the Challys are all a world apart , even from each other....thats what has ME excited....we all get an engine and a body shell and some front brakes....thats it....everyone has to choose and create their own car from it.

The second name and theme is good....very good.....that one is going to get SERIOUS consideration....and I like the ghosting of the Vintage stuff.....I like it a LOT....since its a wrap I can do some good stuff....real good....

Thanks Dic.....very much....if we go with that is it ok to use your name on the wrap somewhere, like theme and name by Dic Geary ?

Irv, I missed the second part of this message...

Am I correct in guessing/assuming you bought the 5.7 car at Glendora Dodge ? With the 5.7 and will be campaiging that as well !?!?!? I hope so, that would be GREAT. Our 5.7 should be ready after Gainesville (if stock is running there ?) And well, it would be GREAT.....As I know 2 of the 5.7's wont even be trackside until about mid year and then not national....

Drop me a line when you get a chance , we think weve taken a few reccomendations here and rolled them into 1, yours is part of it...contrary to the PM I sent...we thought about it some more and with antoher here....kinda rolled it into 1.....well see if anything better comes along...but we likes it.

So, wouldn't the "major sponsor" get top billing on the car?

Chris "drooze" Wertman 01-20-2010 07:17 PM

Re: Name this car contest, design the paint.....

Yes of course, didnt have them when I ran this thread. That came right after.

We were going to follow Dic's suggestion and name it "Evolution" with some cool wrap work of a timeline pics of old to new hemi stuff and cars.

I didnt say it was a "Major Sponsor" did I ? I said "Our Main , maybe I said Major, I meant major for us, not in the Scheme of things..", I think I called them a "Title Sponsor" Not like Coke or Pepsi is sponsoring us, someone few people have heard of hence it makes sense for them to have their name on something that is running their system.

They also get to name the car.....I get "first right of refusal" on a name or a graphics scheme, but thats it....they "Own the look and name of the car"

Thats what I meant by "we sold our soul"

I thought you do all the mechanicals and make sure you have a car that will get from point A to point B before you worry about making it pretty.

Re: Name this car contest, design the paint.....

As of Saturday it will be less FI wiring, leaving Sunday for that, engine goes back in tommorow headers on, the only other items are fasten the DZus fastners to the hood and make mounts for the computer systems, Ill be doing that at their shop while theyre wiring the ECU, Trans and car next week. Then testing of course, well Ill have to pull the converter and swap it before testing were running a very low stall converter so we can map the entire range, so with our ramp rate she runs up the ladder nice and smooth, no plug fouling...none of that hackle and cough crap because someone dosent know how to or want to tune their entire rpm range..... hard to do even on a load brake hub dyno with a 5000 stall converter.....But....errrr.....yeah other than that....yeah........

All the completion pics will be taken Saturday.....The old man is flying back in then and I want to get pics of him with the car.....\

But NO that wasnt what I was saying , what I was saying was Its no longer MY problem, its theirs. THEY are now "carrying the ball" on the Graphics and Name and such....hence its something I dont have to worry about...

The 60's and 70's were certainly the heyday of "named" or "themed" race cars. Although none of my own cars were ever named, I was always intrigued by "Smokestack Lightning" as a race car name, which is a blues song written by Howlin' Wolf, and the most popular recorded version was done by the Yardbirds on their "Five Live Yardbirds" album.

I also liked "Psychotic Reaction" by the Count 5. However, Jim Kramer from PA owns a survivor SS/AA Cuda with this name still on it. I believe Bob Harrop was one of the original owners of this car, which also retains the original psychedelic paint scheme!
