I sorry if I misspoke when I said my kid had the only Dodge Aspen Wagon in stock. I did check Nitro Joe's Stats and did not see any other one being currently raced in 2009. Michael Colaluca 's wagon was very fast and well prepared and I hope he still has it and races again soon! I believe his dad was a tech guy and we meet him at Autolite Nationals in 2006. I meant no disrespect to anybody. I believe Sid Bonnecarre raced a F Body Wagon in mid to late 90s. I don't know if it was a Volare or Aspen. I didn't mean to imply that we had the market exclusively on them.:D:D Check 7411 and you will find a lot more pictures of it, the shot you found was before he was old enough to drive. I drove it a few time before my son turned 15 1/2 old and could get a license. I think the shot you found was a National Race where I somehow got to semi's before getting betten by Gary Waldo who was shot down by his Dad Jim in final. I really like to race my '71 Demon much better(looks like your car) since I don't hit the windshield when I shift to High Gear. Thanks for your interest:D

Those are neat!

Charlie DeHaven, an E.T. champ out of US-13, used to have an O/SA wagon, but I think he only ran it in Stock for a short time. Anybody happen to know him and how he might be doing? Haven't seen him since the late '90s when we got the Turismo project off the ground. He's a real character!

Tom Ward has an O/SA Aspen wagon that he is preparing to race again after many years of storage. It is the same car I drove back in the '80s a few times. Jim

I found out today that Michael's wagon and Sid's are one and the same wagon. It used to be called the "Misguided Missile". It said on the tailgate:" When I grow up I'm going to be a Hemi!" My Kids wagon is called the "Nevada Missile" like all our toys!:)

Doesn't Phil Marvetz have an F-body wagon in V/SA?

GTX JOHN 01-21-2010 09:04 PM

Re: Aspen Wagons in Stock

Holy *****, I should have remembered that......I sold it to him when he was at Nationals in Vegas about 3 years ago. Original white paint, no Air, no power steering and ran like a top! I believe it was a accident investigation vehicle in Washington State. Hated to let it go but he is a cool guy and my buddy! Plus he gave me $400. CASH....... which is fortune for a F Body Wagon even a Aspen that nice!!!:D

Re: Aspen Wagons in Stock

Gee, thank's for remembering me John. It's probably the only rust free aspen in the world, lol. If you ever send me your address I'll send you down a copy of the record, I put your name in like I said I would. It is listed in the digger in mid sept 1/8th mile. Did any one else know that if you set the 1/4 mile record at a national open they also give you the 1/8 record? Mike and I did not know that.... Hope all is well down there.

Philip, Do you know where the 1/8thmile records are posted? What is the record anyway?
Was that an 1/8th mile event only you were at?

Is this the wagon Jerry Bennett used to run and win ALLOT of Combo I races at Union Hill in the 80's?

If it is, it's another fast MoPar from Graves County, KY!

I saw somewhere on the 'net (this site maybe) that someone was building a Volare/Aspen wagon for Super Stock with a 318 4-Speed combo. There were pix of the backhalfed chassis too. Pretty cool!!!

Re: Aspen Wagons in Stock

Hey Mark,
I set the record at the 1/8th mile national open race in august at Portland raceway 9.24 uncorrected, Then Mike went to the 1/4 mile national open race in Kearney the next weekend and set the 1/4 record. NHRA gave him the altitude corrected 1/4 and 1/8th mile records. 9.11. So I had it for a week and never had heard that you could set both records at once. Division 6 only has one race a year were we can set 1/8th mile records so I guess I'll have to go after the 1/4 record next, lol. Are you going to bring the mustang out of the garage and come play with us again?

Mark Yacavone 01-26-2010 02:55 AM

Re: Aspen Wagons in Stock

Thinking about it, Phil.
Probably good to get it out there once in a while . It's all freshened up , Cometic head gasket, new converter. I do want to keep it that way in case somebody buys it. They won't have to mess with it.

That explains the 1/8th business. I still don't see them listed on the NHRA site, though.

Phillip marvetz 01-26-2010 03:06 AM

Re: Aspen Wagons in Stock

Maybe class at vegas, lol? I'm suprised someone hasn't made you a serious offer on the mustang by now.

I saw that on Moparts. The owner is from Idaho I believe, he also has a number of other Aspens and Volares for the street and strip.

If somebody had told me that I would be hot rodding and racing Aspen/Volare wagons and 2drs later in life I would have told them they're crazy, especially after owning a multitude of Mopar muscle from the 60's and early 70's..kinda like a stray cat, they wander in and I cant seem to get rid of them lol! They do make fun and relatively speaking inexpensive race cars(if there is such a thing). One of the more unique wagons I've picked up is a 79 ex-Air Force Volare wagon..Air Force dark blue and just as plain jane as it gets(just beggin to go stock eliminator racing).
And about everyone I've got out here(wagon and 2dr)are western rust free cars.

Some of the wagon.
Yes our car was the car that Sidney drove. The person who drove the car before I did took the lettering off for some reason. It it repainted now, and getting another facelift.

Is that an original 79 Sport Wagon? They had all of the wheel flairs/chin spoiler and bucket seats w/console from the factory..here is an original one that I'm putting back together.

GTX JOHN 01-30-2010 10:45 PM

Re: Aspen Wagons in Stock

Those spoilers are way cool. I wish I could get the kid to take off his roof rack.......probably pick up a MPH. Taking the wind deflector off back window seem to help! Philip: When we set N/SA record last year at National Open they gave us both 1/8 1/4 records.

Hey Gordie, I'm the owner/moderator of F Body Mopars on Yahoo and we are working on gathering and sharing info on the 1979 and 1980 Sport wagons!

We are seeking to compare fender tag info for authenticating originals from possible dealer later cloned cars that may have been made..

so fatr the one real designator we know of is a L6 seat code ? found on fender tag

would you be willing to help us on this effort?

thank you

Chris, Jerry used to come to Sikeston with a black wagon, said Bennett & Veach on the side. Maybe the same one, repainted?

Re: Aspen Wagons in Stock

The orange wagon in the pictures is Jimmy Nichols' car, I believe. 360 ci powered.
Judy McCormack's was a black sport wagon with all the spoilers and such.
I thiink it had a tan interior with buckets and console. 318 ci in a number of horsepower versions.
