As it turned out every piece of sheet metal was damaged. However, the frame was mostly in tact. I turned to Gary Smith of Legends Motor car, an awesome old school body guy here in Placerville California. He said we can fix it. So the first thing we did was cut the cage out and get it on a laser frame straightening machine. It turned out to be 1" up and 1" over in the front and a 1/4" out in the rear. Those laser machines are amazing a few pulls here and there and a few crackle & pops and the car was perfectly square in the front and within 1mm in the rear.
So the next step was to cut the roof and quarters off the car and start the rebuild..... Roll Cages and Wheel tubs are easy to install without the roof or quaterpanels on the car! |

Gary hand worked the trunk lid and hand rolled and streched the new replacement quarter panels. All the new sheet metal parts were supplied by Steves Camaros of San Bruno, Ca. Thank You Steve.
No bondo or welding here. |

Rich,
Great looking rebuild. Somewhere Bob Rice is drooling on his keyboard. Good luck and it is good to see this kind of outcome. Steve |

Re: Hangtown Deuce returns
Rich,,,,glad to hear the original "Duece" will be out soon. I've shot a few pics of your car over the years and can't wait to see the new paint scheme. Will it be close to the same or are you going in a different direction? Inquiring minds want to know.

Re: Hangtown Deuce returns
Gary at Legends Motor Car is doing the paint and striping. It is his canvas to do what he wants. The only requirement from me is that it needed to have the same basic striping scheme as before. So at this point, the actual final design is top secret even to me.
I do know the paint is from House of Colors. It is Blue Blood Red and a Silver with 2 different colors of pearl to be included. I know it is a risk but this guy has really stepped up to help me get this car done for the 50th Winternationals. The Carpet and Headliner were installed allday friday and all night in to yesterday. The Gloss interior black paint on dash and upper inner quarters and final prime on outside were done yesterday and through the night in to today. I pick up today around noon and it will be back to my shop to put in the running gear and wiring and have have turn key ready to go back to his shop by Wednesday for final paint and assembly of all the body panels. Our plan is to then test on Feb 6th but with my polish luck it will rain! more pics later UPDATE: I got the car done on tuesday and is being sprayed today. I will get pacs later tonight. Wow com'on Pomona! |
