Contingency Sponsers for Lucas Oil Series

Is it me, or has the number decreased again this year....was just looking at the NHRA web site and went to the sponser listing...I see Comp Cams is gone, and a few others...

Re: Contingency Sponsers for Lucas Oil Series

I'm still waiting to get paid from almost half of the posted contingency sponsors from last September ! I wouldn't be surprised to see the ones who seem to have trouble paying out disappear. My buddy E says you got to call them and hound them ! Anybody know the best way to get results?

Re: Contingency Sponsers for Lucas Oil Series

Listing the company names that don't pay here @ classracer,.DRR, and Yellowbullet and then the racers will not buy their products.

MOVEMAN 01-25-2010 03:52 PM

Re: Contingency Sponsers for Lucas Oil Series

I guess I could put there company names out there, but that's not the results that I was looking for! A few of them would raise a few eyebrows!

Dave Steltz 01-25-2010 04:52 PM

Re: Contingency Sponsers for Lucas Oil Series

I would call them...I have had this happen to me, and generally after I called they sent me the check..some didnt even know ( or acted like it anyway) that they were supposed to send a check out...

As far as posting...I dont see a need for that, the list of "payers" is on the NHRA web site, and most of us reading here arent buying alot of new parts all the time....plus I'm not going to replace something on my car just cause the dont pay anymore...

Just a reflection of the economy I guess...

NHRA has email addresses for all contingency sponsors, I kept emailing, I found that most at least responded back. The only one who hasnt pd me still is JW & she's very good at promising.

Just looked at the list, Ive got 19 National and 10 divisional stickers this year, ...........Thats compared to 40 national in 2008. ........Out of those 40, I got paid by 37 for my Keystone's RU. ................If they really enforce the 5 year requirement that a lot of manufactures have , I'll have even fewer! ...........Tom

Just a thought;
I just spent the weekend at our awards banquet for Summit Motorsports Park. One thing that Bill Bader brought up is our lack of gatitude. Acording to him and the sponsors no one ever sends thank you's anymore when they receive contingency money.
We have to remember they do not have to pay it, they pay it to say "thanks for using our product" we can at least send a note back saying "thanks for your generosity"
I know I am going to get busted for this but I do believe he is right and I think it would help us all.

BB bust away.

FYI; SMP pays contingency on the spot for company's, some as much as $150.00 to win!
I can collect over $300.00 in contingency for a regular nights win, paid in cash on the spot!

GaryGoFast 01-26-2010 08:24 AM

Re: Contingency Sponsers for Lucas Oil Series

In a perfect world, NHRA would collect all the contingency money prior to each season & distribute it to the racers accordingly. For their efforts, they would be able to keep the interest generated as it waited to be disbursed.

Bryan Gillespie 01-26-2010 09:24 AM

Re: Contingency Sponsers for Lucas Oil Series

Hopefully this year I' ll have that problem. (not getting paid for contingency)
But I always say no pay no stay (stickers).

Re: Contingency Sponsers for Lucas Oil Series

Barney is right on. I call all of them that owe me money at the end of the year and try to collect but I tell each of them thanks for posting contingency. They certainly are not obligated to post contingency and without the contingency suddenly you are paying $250 to race for $1800. No one would show up for that payout.
And the NHRA list is only a little light, IHRA list looks really weak so far.

THE LEGEND 01-26-2010 11:05 AM

Re: Contingency Sponsers for Lucas Oil Series

Super Chevy used to pay on the spot, and IHRA/Summit had a local track deal once that paid on the spot.

IHRA took the hit last year. This years list not much different, and at least the ones that post usually pay pretty quick.

I always tell them thanks because they don't have to post. Say whay you want but without contingency money how many would go.

I thought long and hard about going to PBIR this weekend. I can only win about $3800. I decided to Spend that money later and take a couple more weeks to make sure car is right.

Re: Contingency Sponsers for Lucas Oil Series

Sadly we live in a "What have you done for me lately society" not "What I did a year ago". People want to get paid ASAP they don't want to wait 6 months or a year to get paid for something that happened in the past. You get work done on your house or car you can't tell the construction or mechanic I'll pay you in about a year or so, guess what all the new things you had put on your house would be taken down faster then they were put up. The thing is and I agree a little bit with the Thank You to the sponsors and if there is a sponsor that pays on the spot or quickly after you won a race I'll send a Thanks or give them a hand shake at the next race I go too but, you can't wait a year to get paid....it's just that simple. You buy the product, you pay on a timely basis, you use the product, there should be no 9, 10, 11 or 12 month delays in getting you your cash or have to have a PILE FULL OF PAPERWORK saying when you bought the product and if it's past a 3 year period of time then you don't get paid. I mean you can't control when things are going to break, I mean we run on a shoestring budget sometimes and some of the parts on our car are close to 5 to 10 years old and they lasted that long due to keeping it taken care of. I mean it could last 5 runs or 200 runs, you never know but don't punish the consumer because your products lasted that long...Just my 2 cents

Chris Williams 01-27-2010 11:46 AM

Re: Contingency Sponsers for Lucas Oil Series

IMHO, contingency dollars are like mail-in rebates for consumer products. The company is very much hoping they'll never have to pay, but they'll get the benefit (your purchase and/or advertising with the sticker) anyway. Most don't have qualms about making you jump through hoops and delaying payment, making it so painful that you'll just bag it. That you'll just run their stickers for years and never win, or never jump through the hoops. Free advertising with their core constituency, and even props in the digger and elsewhere for offering it.

Re: Contingency Sponsers for Lucas Oil Series

I hear all these war stories about collecting money and I guess I am blessed. I have been paid every dollar (almost) that was owed to me through NHRA contingency programs. Now I know I do not win as much as you guys but I get lucky once and a while. Yes, I have waited for it but to me that does not matter, as long as I know I am getting it I am thankful. I think it is kind of cool when checks just shows up out of know where in the mail box.
I guess my thought is instead of posting on this thread, send an e-mail to a sponsor and tell them how much you appreciate their support.
Even if every one of us sends one to a differant company I think that would help in the long run.

Us too. The only stickers on our car are the ones required to run: NHRA, Lucas, and our local association sticker.

I do not see how they get listed each year when they don't pay the racer anyway.

CSR's stuff is beautifully made, but as a company... what a mess. Called to ask for a certain catch can. You could practically hear her rummaging around in the back room...

"Hmmm... gee, no, I don't think we have... wait... no... hmmm... nope, don't think so."
"Can I order one?"
"Oh! Order one? Ummm... no, I don't think so."

Fortunately Summit had one in their basement...

CSR beautifully made. I don't think so.
My water pump lasted about 6 months and the motor just quit during a run.
Lucky I was at a national event and was able to buy a replacement motor.
Next time I will buy a competitors pump since CSR does not even pay their own dealers who race.
No More CSR for me.

I bought a Meziere water pump instead of the CSR (because they would actually ship it) and I love it. Works well, and pretty too.

Re: Contingency Sponsers for Lucas Oil Series

BB you are right. I just sent an email to Dart for what I thought was going above and beyond.

In case the rest of you don't know about this I will fill you in. I was fortunate enough to win T/D at Summit Motorsports Parks Div race. When I go through contingency is that Dart only pays for one product (heads?) and I have decals on for block and intake as well but hey they posted for heads and I have a decal I will take the money. I get a check from them a few weeks later and all is great. A couple of months later I manage to win the LODRS race at Bowling Green and claim my one Dart product. A couple of weeks later I get the check, but there is also a note that says "you can claim more contingency by going to www.dartcontingency.com". So I log on to their site and fill out the form for both Norwalk and BG for my block and intake and two weeks later I get a check for both products for both races! How's that?! Not only did they pay me promptly, they told me how to get more money and it was simple. I'm still amazed by that.

Maybe some complanies see it as a gift card they hope never gets redeemed, but I'm not cynical enough to think all of them or most of them do. Certainly not Dart.

I'm also with BB on getting paid. I don't win all the time, but I got paid by every sponsor but one in the last 3 years in both IHRA and NHRA. The one didn't pay went out of business. I have never called a single sponsor to hound them for a check. I don't mind waiting for them, as long as they come.

Carry on....

Bob

So, that's what you have to do to get paid from JW? Actually show up at their front door?

Call me a cynic, but I see this as a business proposition. I agree to buy their product, and provide advertising for them by placing their decal on my car. IF I win or R/U (and that's an awfully big 'IF'), they agree to pay me for purchasing their product, and displaying their decal on my car.

Will I thank them for their check when they send it? Maybe, maybe not - it depends upon if the situation presents itself. If a contractor comes to my house, and I pay him for a job well done, most likely I also tell them thank you as I walk them to the door. But, do I call Amazon.com or any other Internet retailer every time I have a successful business transaction with them? No, and I doubt any of you do either.

Let me take this one step further - do the posting companies CALL YOU to THANK YOU when you BUY THEIR PRODUCT and run THEIR DECALS ON YOUR CAR WHEN YOU DON'T WIN?

"Hi Jason - this is Jim from XYZ Company. I just wanted to call you to thank you for your business, and to thank you for the free advertising you gave us this past weekend while you were running our decal on your car but were only fortunate enough to get to the quarterfinals. Tough break, and better luck next time!"

Uh, no, that doesn't happen. So, please don't give me any crap about the contingency sponsors not paying because we're not showing them enough gratitude. That's just another excuse as to why we're not getting paid.

Re: Contingency Sponsers for Lucas Oil Series

Brodix is the only company who has called to congratulate me following a race.
In May 2008 on Monday following the race I received a call from Brodix congratulating me upon my accomplishment. They told me they would be sending me a check for the heads.
I mentioned that I also ran their block and they told me to send them an email confirming that I did run and had a decal for their block and they would cut me another check even though they did not post for the block. I did so and did receive an additional check for the block.
Jason if I remember correctly was the person who called.
I try and tell everyone about Brodix and how they do business.
In 2009 I did not get any calls but I did still get checks.
CSR is another story.
I can't find anyone who can get their money from them.
No More CSR purchases from me.
Rick
