Speedworld,az national open
I'm here, but no other class cars yet to report on .Should be some tomorrow.
I've got to warn you. Don't expect a Patsy Hill type report. I'm a one man band ,and I plan on being quite busy Saturday, but I'll do what I can. I'll have to do the qualifying by hand if I get a chance, so bear with me. markyac@cox.net |

Mark
I use a $9 card reader that you can buy at radio shack or wal-mart. It uses a USB connection. it's easier than hooking the camera up. |

Re: Speedworld,az national open
Not much to report yet.
Total of three class cars, so far. Dennis Alvey , 68 Mustang, A/S, 10.33 Kayla Mozeris, Hughes Performance LT1 convert., F/SA 11.52 Your humble correspondent, 80 Mustang, V/SA 14.37 Hope to see more tomorrow. I'm thinking that grade points don't have a lot of value out here right now. |
Re: Speedworld,az national open
Mark, I think the one people are looking for is Calverts Thunderbolt, do let us know if he shows. With the rainout last weekend he just mite show unless he rented a track somewhere else.

Re: Speedworld,az national open
Looks like you did your homework Mark, nice run, how are the conditions ? I am guessing that it is slightly warmer that here ( 8 degrees )

Re: Speedworld,az national open
Dave, It's mid 60's and about 2500 ft air + or- , but that doesn't tell the story. It's about 2 to 3 times the humidity we're tuned up for. I have wait for the middle of the day for the best runs. My gauges say it's slower then, but not for me.
Tomorrow looks like about the same. I've heard about a bunch more cars coming (for here anyway) |
Re: Speedworld,az national open
What is happening out there Mark, more cars ?
Dave |
Re: Speedworld,az national open
My friends who are there tell me that there are about 15 class cars and
about 200 JR dragsters. At a natl. open with grade points . |
Re: Speedworld,az national open
There are a total of 9 cars. Mark Y, Josh E, Kip M, Rick U, Rusty H, Kayla M, Dick M, Billy ?, and Dave W.
|
Re: Speedworld,az national open
And Yes there are a few jr's. Not many cars in the other classes either.

Re: Speedworld,az national open
The stock super stock deal at Vegas next week is probably effecting the turn out at Speedworld.

Re: Speedworld,az national open
Here's what I've got so far ,with one more hit in the AM
M.Y. V/SA -1.23 Josh Edwards SS/GM -.88 Kip Martin SS/L -.77 Rick Unterseh P/SA -.72 Rusty Hall C/SA -.60 Kayla Mozeris F/SA -.33 Dick Meierhenry K/SA -.19 Dave Workman L/SA -.12 Bob Elliott L/SA + .08 No record attempts besides your truly. Set and backed it up @ 14.47. Hopped it up for the fourth hit and ran the .26. Going to try to back that up in the morning w/the mph record. 2500' average, 30 to 60% hum, 28.3 baro, high 60's, headwind. That all for now.... |
Re: Speedworld,az national open
I heard that Bob Elliott won the combo.
Congrats Bob!!! |
Re: Speedworld,az national open
That 's right Jody. Congrats to Bob.
Quite a feat ,seeing he wasn't able to run the index all weekend. Apparently, knowing this, Rusty Hall gave Bob a bunch on the tree in the 1st round, and he turned on the winlight. Second round, # 3 qualifier Kip Martin redlighted, advancing Elliott to the third bye in the semi's. I had to run Josh Edwards, the # 2 car at that point. I figured I needed to go for the kill, instead killing myself with a .0004 redlight . Josh was 1 to the good side of the tree but about 5 slow. I was about 2 fast, so it might have been a good one. I guess the black V6 Camaro rocketship hurt the motor against me, and wasn't able to return for the final . Bob singled for the win with a 12.84 on a 12.70 index. We were able to back up the 14.26 run this morning with a 14. 253 @ 92.57. ,and I didn't want to cut any closer than that (- 1.247 under) Teardown was after the final today, so T and I just stuck the head back on and pushed it on the trailer at O-dark -thirty. Beautiful weather ,but a fast paced and hectic day. |

thanks for the link....didn't even think to look there!!
|
Re: Speedworld,az national open
Congrats on the record Mark, so if I got that right , you went 1.54 under the old index, that is hauling the mail.
Congrats to Bob, I believe that is Bill Pomponi's old car, it has been in the winner's cicle before and so has Bob. Tune it up Bob, I know there is more there. I can't believe the low turnout, truely baffleing, |
Re: Speedworld,az national open
Congrats to Bob and Mark
|
Re: Speedworld,az national open
Mark,
Congratulations on the new record. That should stand for a while! |
Re: Speedworld,az national open
Thanks guys. Maybe we ought to take some weight out and head down to Tucson next month.
Nah, I think I'll leave that for the new owner, whoever that may be. |
