Been doing it for decades at Brainerd, and at a variety of strips in Canada. Nothing new. One of the best racers around here is a woman and she does almost 200... on a frigging snowmobile... inches from the ground. Pretty impressive.

Carl,

Come on man, next is the Legend cars to hit D-1. Actually I must say if you look at some of the run schedules for the D-1 races, there are a few tracks in which S/G is not last in rotation...WOW....but somehow we will still get bumped!!!!

Re: Snowmobiles?.....C'mon man!

Keep snowmobiles at the brackets!! We can barely get through a division race as it is! Is it just another way to get money out of more people?

I'm glad they are moving sg around in the rotation, it's only fair, but then to move sc out 1st in the am, just wonderful! I remember Atco doing this last year, I was about 10th pair out and all I remember is looking straight into the eyes of the other guy because we were both sideways.

Would these issues be anything for the srac or are they just for nationals?

BKSG1198 02-11-2010 02:06 PM

Re: Snowmobiles?.....C'mon man!

Well S/C runs 1st in the 2nd session in most of the races this year and in their normal spot (3rd) for the 1st time shot. The only thing that sucks is for the guys who run S/C and S/G just better hope you have a good crew who can get the cars ready in a hurry.

Re: Snowmobiles?.....C'mon man!

They dont have time for our kids with junior dragsters or any of the fun races
BUT SNOWMOBILES REALLY!!!!!
next you will only get half a parking space.
Division 1 gets too many cars for this B.S.

BKSG1198 02-11-2010 08:08 PM

Re: Snowmobiles?.....C'mon man!

Hey Ray,
Can't wait to go to Atco and be parked in the dirt and be like "Why can't I get asphalt?" and when you go cruising through you see snowmobiles parked on the asphalt....ahhh got to love it....Hmm MASGA and Bracket racing sounds sooooo good right now.

Re: Snowmobiles?.....C'mon man!

Car counts are down especially at Opens (excluding the 'Dutch and we all know what a cluster that race is going to be before we even get to the gate) so, there shouldn't be any big issues. They have run sleds at the LVD during the Divisional before with no real problems so, what the heck? There's only been about a dozen or so of them past anyway plus, they're kinda neat to watch. If it puts a few more people in the seats, so be it. Cecil could be an issue though....

Re: Snowmobiles?.....C'mon man!

You are required to have a long list of safety items to run almost any category in NHRA........but you can go 200MPH sitting on a snowmobile or bike with basically no protection!.........All you have to do is see the clip of the guy that crashed on his Luge sled up in Edmonton to see what could happen to someone on a bike or sled......He was going 88mph and I had to turn away everytime they showed the crash.....Dragstrips don't have many places along the track for something like that to happen but it seems foolish to include these things. I have seen them at my local tracks usually running in the 9's at somewhere around 140.......

Re: Snowmobiles?.....C'mon man!

I agree... Jr's at the Divisional races woudl be great... then we wouldnt have to go to any Bracket races at all.....

Snow Mobiles have no place at the race track unless its covered in snow... they could all be racing right now up there... from what I have seen there is snow all over..... so Snow mabilers have fun... leave the warm weather racing for the cars...

There was a luge crash in Edmonton too? The one I saw was at the Olympics in Vancouver...

Re: Snowmobiles?.....C'mon man!

I will admit I was majorly interested in getting my boyfriend to convert his snowmobile from snow to asphalt thinking that it was just going to be a bracket thing then I read the rules and realized it would take A LOT more work than just buying some tracks and leathers. It's only a 700 so we'd need a new motor plus a lot of other stuff and we'd really rather put the money into the racecars and the house. I'm sure I wasn't the only one thinking that this was going to be a bracket class then learn it was a heads up 200mph class. I mean how many of these are out there and are any in our area? I do agree with Don though, It would be fun to watch :)

Your point is; this photo was taken in 2008. We are allowed to run the Divisional races out West.

I think both the sleds and the ATV's are exciting to watch at the track. The quickest sleds are running low 8's and 160's at both Lebanon Valley and Epping.....Same safety rules as the motorcycles...never have seen one crash in 3 seasons, no oil downs, and just like the Bikes, they go straight and quickly thru their rounds----with less delays than the cars.....You know, their money is also green, and they're helping the track operators pay the bills in these trying times....Bikes and sleds are helping to keep the track gates open weekly at many tracks, for sure....so don't be a hater....WJ

Thanks for the kind words. To give a few examples what these things are capable of:

- 2008, at the IHRA World Finals in Rockingham, NC. 535cc ATV on alky went 9.65 @ 126 mph. We have been 10.23 @ 123 mph with a 443 cc race gas ATV,

- Most of these vehicles run 1/8 mile and around 5 that I know of run 1/4 mile. 1/8 mile times run deep into the 5s.

Most of the ATVs are based off the Yamaha Banshee. A twin cylindered, two stroke, 350cc motor.

I really didn't want my first post to be on this subject, but as usual. Someone sparks that interest.

Our first love has always been the traditional race vehicle(s) and our priority have been with them mainly.

The quad is the last on the priority list and it still provides the most fun. I've been 7s in the 1/4 with a truck and nothing compares to the thrill of the drag ATV. :D

Throw away your throttle stops and stall-off-the-line launches and your class might be more fun and keep the people in the stands from going to the rest rooms and hot dog stand when SG comes to the lanes....8 second hard-launching, non-stalling sleds and ATV's are way more exciting for fans to watch....Until the throttle stops, most people LOVED Super Gas.....and I'm not the only one who feels this way----you can bet on that....:D WJ

Hmmmm, will the snowmobile, motorcycle and ATV classes ever be over run with entrants? I doubt it; you could combine them and probably not get close to the Super category numbers. So, how much time would they take up?

WJ was a racer before you were in diapers!.........However ,WJ, .90 racers don't seem to comment negativly about S/SS cars on their forum, and the post is about why we need snowmobiles at races that are already hard pressed to be compleated. .............I like the sleds ,I like motorcycles, but we don't have room or time for them...........We all know Super Gas [ALWAYS LAST] ...are the ones to loose when time runs short............... Mabe 1700 Camaro [BTW do you have a name?] can correct me, but I'm willing to bet the only reason they are racing at Div. races is their organization put up money to be there. .....Lets not forget ,it's all about revenue with NHRA , both at the Nat and Div. level. ......NHRA puts revenue expectations on it's Div. Directors..............Tom

Money is coming out of my own pocket. We do have sponsor's for all of our vehicles and that helps pay the way also. Div. 7 only provides the opportunity for us to race with the motorcycles/snowmobiles.

As for the IHRA National Event in Rockingham, NC. It was 2 of us doing exhibition runs for IHRA. I was already back East for a big quad race and I Volunteered. No money was paid for that deal either.

I didn't start this thread, but thought I would provide a little education on the subject. I'm a .90 class racer and there's no hate here. ;)

Tom, I have always loved the Super Gas cars.......just not a fan of the throttle stop racing. Have been friends w/ the Sawyers for years.....I'd like to see the SG cars run w/out the stops again.... Best wishes. Warren Lederer WJ

Re: Snowmobiles?.....C'mon man!

The snowmobiles are neat....I heard they went 7.78 177....incredible....we usually see them at Stanton and Norwalk.....no biggie....and there's not many of them....so whatever.....

in division 1....time is always tight....and they don't switch the schedule around like we do in division 3...so it seems like s/g gets the screw job everytime....when theres a delay.....I be unhappy also.....tell Johnny D to get them to change the schedule every race.....so the screwing is spread around.....lol

There's always a loser in the situation.....I think they flip it every other race in Div 3..

sometimes it's good ...sometimes its bad....
