rumor from phoenix

Re: rumor from phoenix
the nhra website says that they are going to run the last three rounds in Gainesville during qualifications
|
Re: rumor from phoenix
Pro Stock will be finished during qualifying at Gainesville. Probably because NHRA wants to avoid anymore disasters at Phoenix. Like the Pro Stock guys refusing to race.
|
Re: rumor from phoenix
Well I'm glad to see the Pro Stock guys band together and tell NHRA they are not racing on the Phoenix track. Only problem is, I am sure no one at NHRA will think twice about having us lowly Sportsman racers go down that sh**hole!
|
Re: rumor from phoenix
alan from what i was told they were leaving before nhra put out the statement, but i think you are right the didn't want to explain where they had gone.
|
Re: rumor from phoenix
I think the NHRA should be replacing to pro stock cars. That was terrible, that was just like National Trails a few years back!
|
Re: rumor from phoenix
Okay it's early in the morning. That is two pro stockers!

Re: rumor from phoenix
While we're talking about the past weekend's crashes/incidents, just think about the new "4 wide Drag Racing" format that is coming up soon at Brutonville, USA.... That could turn things into a real freak show...... When are they going to stop letting the INMATES run the INSANE ASSYLUM??? WJ

Re: rumor from phoenix
All I have to say is Antron's car sure had no problem climbing that wall....imagine a car's in the other lane at Concord and runs into trouble (Tire smoke) and is on and off the throttle putting him behind and bam here comes Antron's front end over the wall...

Re: rumor from phoenix
Prostock question: on tracks that are known to have traction issues. Why does't NHRA have spec spoiler wickerbills that can be added to the end of the tail spoilers on request? These cars are working now with almost no down force to speak of and only get lighter with speed. It seems it would make the cars more stable and a tad slower, but isn't NHRA supposed to be all about safety? I know I don't know much about these cars but it was just a thought.

Re: rumor from phoenix
Just a few thoughts,
Could this problem be a byproduct of the nitro cars only running to 1000’? Real racecars have to run an additional 320', under power, to the finish line. How much crap is deposited on the track when the nitro cars get the chutes out? No power to the ground leaves you with no rubber on the ground and a narrower and narrower groove. In looking at the track on TV, it also appears that the spray job that they put down stops short of the 1320' finish line. But on the other hand the more they spray the more it costs. Bob |
Re: rumor from phoenix
I was at the track at 7am(rain and more rain) and all but a few pro stockers had loaded up and left the track. The pits and track is a **** hole.

Re: rumor from phoenix
I was there for the Summit Finals last year, and couldn't believe how bad that place was. Then I was told they hold National Events there.

Re: rumor from phoenix
The drivers banded no doubt it works when it happens.

Re: rumor from phoenix
I spoke with gordie riveras son today at there speed shop in yuma, there car is headed back to haas, they will make a decision on there car when jerry gets a look at it,he told me the only bright spot was when they all packed up after 1st round and told nhra to pound sand herb jr. you are right things get done if we could all stick together.
|
Re: rumor from phoenix
I was told who spearheaded the effort and the driver who did told NHRA that noone was going to run the left lane, they were looking at singles the rest of the day with whomever had lane choice would win.
Do you really think Larry Morgan was broke....No just smart. He is outspoken and did what he wanted to do. |

Re: rumor from phoenix
I also raced at the ET finals at Firebird. I'm not that fast..9.0's at 150. 4 link chassis car with large sneakers running on methanol. I can hook up on grass. First round....my 60 was off .005...Roadster next to me was off .002.
Steak was good that night. :( |
Re: rumor from phoenix
hmmmm lets do the math??? They(pro stock drivers) band together nhra loses part of their TV time and has some explainin to do.We band together and nhra has an excuse to exclude us from competition and have more room for another hospitality trailer for a pro to wipe his *** in! Untill we are on TV and have a large spectator count we have NO voice at NHRA!
|
Re: rumor from phoenix
Don't forget that many spectator love Stock, Super Stock, since I do not race anymore in stock and mostly bracket race, I still go to Nationals to watch Comp, S.S, and Stock I believe that many more racer are spectators at many events and many do not enjoy the clown show. My opinion is that if they didn't have sportsman racing they would have to turn to a Monster Truck fiasco type of event to entertain the Thousand footers(do any of these funny car resemble a car?).

"Monster Truck fiasco type of event to entertain the Thousand footers".There are many more of those types at national events than those interested/knowledgeable about Comp/ SS/S racing.Face it,we're not a car culture society like back in the 60's. The so called X or Y or Z or whatever generation are computer, tech driven. They also seem to have the attention span of an amoeba. |
Re: rumor from phoenix
This thread looks like it's starting to wind down regarding Phoenix, so I'd just like to add the fact that I'm so sick of watching countless ranting interviews by John Force on every race day ESPN nat. event TV show that I could just puke.....The Force gang gets more tv time than all other Pro and Sportsman teams combined. It's getting quite sickening and IMO he makes the event coverage more like a Beverly Hillbillies re-run every time he opens his mouth on tv. It's like NHRA is making him the voice of the sport, and it's starting to look more and more like a 3-ring circus whenever the mike is in John Force's hands.....sorry for the rant, but couldn't hold back any longer......signed, "Force-fed long enough"....... :DWJ

Re: rumor from phoenix
I must say even though it is all about John Force and his rants and raves and yes it is very annoying. I barley watch the coverage anymore but, I just happen to watch the race in Arizona this weekend cause I was off from work on Sunday. It was nice to see them actually talk to Steve Chrisman after he beat Dixon about how he's a low buck, all volenteer, as he said it "keeping the big teams honest" racer and also they interviewed Bob Yonke after he won 1st round in Pro Stock. Not sure if they would have ever interviewed these guys if they didn't win 1st round prob would had had more John Force coverage or shown Anton's crash another 20 times onto the the 15 times they had already shown it.
