Atlanta Roll Call

OK. So who is actually going. Dad and I aren't. Talked to Joe Skala and Tony Johnson and they ARE going.
Just wondering how they are gonna get the TD, TS, TAD, TAFC down that cold track.
Atlanta is a nice track when the weather is descent. This could be a little iffy.

Re: Atlanta Roll Call

I will be there!
You Florida guys...bring your snow shovels!
I had 3 inches of snow on my trailer today. I think Commerce got a little more.
It should melt tomorrow.
We may have to break out the old can of Moroso Moose Juice for this event.
I think I still have almost a gallon...:-) from the mid-1980's

You Guy's have fun up there in Commerce ! I'm staying down here in central Fl and work on my tan. 16 hours and $300 in fuel to freeze my *** off, I'd rather look at it on the net.
See you at the Gators.

I agree with Chuck, we will stay at home this weekend and get our stuff ready for the Gators.

There are guaranteed to be a bunch of good .90 racers there; the Jegs points races are all too close for them not to attend. Somebody could even tech in to get a single grade point and looks like that's about all you need to enter a National, unless you're in Super Comp of course.

I thought seriously about going to get the grade point, but with IHRA having a race at Farmington and me with a Gold Card I'm going there.

Re: Atlanta Roll Call

Good luck to everyone going. That being said, with the way things are run in division 2, and since Atlanta is owned by the NHRA, it would have made my day to see that no one showed up but about 20 TAD and funny cars and after they paid the purse maybe it could have helped to bring some change to the way we are all treated. After the race was pulled from Orlando, they could have given us racers that work for a living a break so that we could recouperate and held that race a month or two later, even if it was still in Atlanta. There is no reason we race so many in Feburary and March and then nothing else untill the end of the year.

Lucky for me this year the kids have things going on just about every weekend through the middle of April so I don't have to worry about hitting the division races plus try to go the Gators then to Belle Rose and then Zmax. I'm the boss at my work but would never be able to take that much time off. I'm sure the car counts would be a little better at some of these races if they were spread out just a little, our wallets can only handle so much.

Dave, you hit the nail on the head. We can race year round here in Florida. Why must our fearless leader(say that with an accent) have us done racing in March. Doesn't make too much sense. Oh well, I'm just the low man on the totem pole super street racer.

Bottom Line...........lot of sportsman classes and racers were put out.....be it time, money, travel plans, you name it. A moved race.....for a class of

Re: Atlanta Roll Call

You all missed nothing. I got down the track one time out of 4 runs. This track is a piece of *&^(. One lane, the left was marginal, right was impassable. Division race run bye dick heads, and thats a big upgrade from what I think. No one in D3 or D5 would have sent cars down without getting some spray and rubber from smaller cars down first. These brain surgeons run S/g and S/c FIRST! Frost on the ground every morning, and done around 4pm????? Lets not wait till noonish and run till 5. Lets not run stock and or S/st first, lets get 900-1100 HP short wheel base cars out then dragsters, good plan guys.

It is my understanding the race was moved because Orlando would not make the changes to the shut down area NHRA had requested, so of coarse they moved it to a track they own in that division. Thats just good buisness.

Re: Atlanta Roll Call

I don't mind starting in Feb. and trying to get the northern crowd of entries, it's the total lack of races after the Gators and before the rainy season that befuddles me. April and May are statistically the driest, warmest months of the year and the best time to race. They should push for an extra 1-2 races during that window, especially the week before the Southern Nationals.

This sounds just like the race at Phoenix/Chandler AZ.
Is this a pattern this year?

IMHO, Orlando would not work for TA even with a net system, that sucker would be busy....just too short....02.

They should have worked with SGMP and this crap never would have happened....02.

Evidently John Taylor is okay also, see he ran SG the next round...!!!!!! Sad to hear he hurt the new digger though, hope it's not to bad, heard he flipped it on it's side and then hit the wall with the cage :(

John's great and I brought the car home with me to have Norwood take it on the Race tech to fix it. John won the next round of SG and skated in the next round and lost to Tatum who won,, way to go David. We pulled the motor and sent it on to Mike Thompson and the dragster is very fixable and I did get a huge scare when he flipped on the side but he is not even sore......yet.
The track sucked hard and I lost first round to a car with a small motor which was the way to run this weekend. The second dragster went over on two wheels hit the wall and went back upright and rolled on. Its a miracle several didn't wreck as you would think they are broke the way they hold back the spray. No more Atlanta in March and my fingers are crossed for Charlotte.

Rick Blake 03-07-2010 09:33 PM

Re: Atlanta Roll Call

Thanks Tom, much appreciated, very happy both John and Larry came through unharmed....both are probably gonna be sore tomorrow. Hope the damage wasn't too extensive, sorry to hear about the track conditions, should be a great race this coming weekend at the Gators, best of luck to all competing....!!!!!!!
