Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
1 3634 R/SA Dave Campolito, Salem OH, '96 Caprice 12.769 14.05 -1.281
3.25% come Monday! Somebody had to be the first under the new indexes. Jim From Atlanta |
Re: Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
May not be an "Ooops!" at all, maybe he just likes to go fast.
|
Re: Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
Third time that combo has been hit in less than a year (twice by Dave, once by Corbitt Marshburn). Two pretty stout cars.
|
Re: Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
Jim
Is it -1.25 or -1.30 gets automatic hp? I can't remember. |
Re: Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
1.25 gets horsepower.
|
Re: Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
-1.25 gets HP now. Jim

Re: Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
For those wanting to read about and save for it future reference, here is the article from NHRA.com dated 12/18/2009 concerning the new indexes and how they effect the AHFS.

Re: Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
Did Dave set the R/SA record with this run?

Would it be true then, that if you set a record, you will get an automatic horsepower adjustment?

T/SA index 14.40.You set the record at 12.16.you're 1.24 under. You get record but no hp.BUT,if i understand correctly,at 1.00 NHRA looks at all the runs for your engine combo,I think still body specific, and your combo can get hit depending on what the class average is. |
Re: Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
Correct. It has to be1.25 with an O under.
We went -1.246 on the V/SA backup run (no hp), but the record is 1.25 under (14.25), because they go by the second digit on records. And that looked like I knew what I was doing , but really ,it was s**t luck. |
Re: Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
Regarding this and HP, Im a little confused, I have heard the "horror" stories like Art Leong getting smacked with it by the truckload.
What is the MAX they can add at once ? Is there Instant HP trackside and what does that take ? As well how much is it, and additionaly are you then up for review and able to get smacked again all because of the same run ? Quote:

Speaking of wrecking a record: Artie was hit over the head with HP because he went around 2.00 under at Atco.I was there. We had a good laugh about it because it was his intent to go that fast to rub it in to someone who accused him of bombing the record, when in fact the accuser used to do the same thing when he was actively racing Stock. |

Chris, any car that runs more than -1.250 under it's sea level Index receives a HP or Index adjustment Monday morning. HP increase is 3.25% (HP rating at the time x .0325 = new HP rating on Monday). Index adjustment (for SS/AS, SS/AM, etc) is .15 seconds. |
Re: Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
no record ? does this mean no teardown just instant horsepower?

Re: Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
not to rain on anyones parade, not making acusations either but if this happened to say any upper class stocker this board would be buzzing with discontent like it has in the past. guess no one cares cause it doesnt affect them ,good way to show we only care when its our combo. again not to say they werent legal but before you hit the horsepower you should be torn down to remove all doubt as you give horsepower to everyone and your legality should be checked

Re: Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
I think he means in general - if NHRA is going to use your run to dictate / create policy, they should validate the legitimacy of the run first. Then again, start tearing everyone down all the time and many people will stop handing over cash to NHRA to run national events. Too much BS.
|
Re: Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
I think anyone that gets the instant hit should be torn down. But I guess NHRA figures everyone would just make sure they got tossed for some minor infraction.
|
Re: Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
no doubts, this is not a personal attack. however this is class racing you go that fast you should be checked. the few facing teardown for doing this should know this is how it works. i cant see that lowering entries ,as you may be torndown anyway at a national event even if your .2 under. as far as getting tossed for something minor on purpose give them some time off to think about it. i get where your coming from ,but to turn a blind eye on the bulls/it , just gives people the right away to push it even further .

Re: Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
I have always thought (in my opinion) that before a combo gets hit , that it should be checked. This way * if you get hit it is lagit *. I would hate to know someone got me hp and was not legal at the time they ran so fast. If 1.25 under is the # then it should come also with immediate tear down and checked at that race, with hp pending tear-down outcome. my .02 worth !

Re: Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
Seems all reasonable to me and Im new :)
It seems to suck that someone across the country's rating could be hurt by someone who may not be "kosher" But in several conversations with Tech their opinions were that well over half of the "UnKosher" items are not intentional and rather accidents. (I do NOT know if they were talking about motor or just across the board) But cheaters (and I know a large percentage of improper items are NOT a result of intent but rather accidental) How are those dealt with , only certain items get a DQ and a suspension ? Is it only a suspension if it was blatant ? Or anything at all ? |
Re: Ooops! Somebody Just Got HP!
I thought I read that at division races in the past racers had been torn down for going more than the old 1.40 under. Or did I just dream that.
It would seem that if a car violating the limit was not torn down and proved legal, you could have grounds for action against getting mandatory horsepower if you ran the same combination. |

When they tossed me at Maple Grove. For having too little compression, they told me to come back with the head off. I told them "no way" I had driven the car there, and it took me way to long to tear a head off then put it together to make a run. I sent them a nasty letter explaining the stupidity of there rule. They then changed the rule LOL So I went back to racing. |

I have to fess up I was trying to set you up Look at what the Ihra did last year at Epping it was a joke to add HP to who they did It was the best weather I had seen in 12 years of racing I understand IHRA wants to look legit in sportsmen racing but how that race was done last year was awful In many ways... |
