Congratulation to Bobby Warren - IDRHOF

Congratulation to Bobby Warren for being the first Sportsman Racer to ever be inducteed into the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame. I didn't know, until I heard about his Induction on Thursday night, that Bobby is the oldest Sportsman Racer to win a nation event. He was 79 years old when he won Bristol.

Again congratulation to an old time Southern Drag Racer from all of us at Chris 3 Racing.

And here’s what Jon Lundberg had to say about Mr. Bobby’s induction into the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame from the Jalopy Journal Junior Stock thread.

"Had the pleasure Thursday night to introduce the first-ever Sportsman inductee to the International Drag Racing Hall Of Fame. I'm sure he has been mentioned in this thread. His name is Bobby Warren. Bobby has been a three-time NHRA World Champion. First time was at the wheel of his J/S ‘69 Chevy Nova in 1970".

"A truly amazing, yet very laid back, person with a marvelous personal story".

"I have a new hero and his name is Bobby Warren".

I remember reading a story about Bobby Warren in the 70's. Must've been in Super Stock and Drag Illustrated. Told about his farm and all the cars he had around. Wasn't he one of the best, that whenever one of his combos got hit by a lowered record. He could just drag up another body and start fresh?

I'd say, if the term "legend" could be applied to someone, Bobby Warren would be the man to have earned that title.

I raced Super Stock a little bit in the early 80's. The last run I made as a legal SS car in my '69 Camaro SS/JA was aginst Bobby in 1982.....I lost but always considered it a highlight of my racing in SS to lose to someone I admired so much over the years.......I saw him race that J/S Nova in 1970 and was racing a similar car in H/S.......I can recall wondering how the heck can he be going so fast? It was at the first SummerNationals at York.......He deserves the honor!

Woodro you are correct about Bobby's age. He is not that old. I put that in the post because that was what was included in his induction speech; however, myself and another racer were talking about his age last night.

Well deserved award. We all look up to him.

I remember the super stock final at the Suffolk, VA Div. 2 points race in 1972. Came down to Bobby Warren & Charlie Taylor. Both driving identical '69 Camaro Indy Pace car replicas. The white convertibles with orange stripes. Both 4-speed cars. Both SS/L
I believe (maybe J or K) heads up. Sounded like one car going down. Both hit their shift points at exactly the same time. I was at the starting line so I couldn't see how close it was but I'll bet it was real close. Has to rate as the neatest super stock race I've ever seen.

You know Buddy Taylor had his act together back then too with son Charlie driving. This was back when Jeff Taylor was only 11 or 12 years old.

I recall back in the early 70s he was the master of the psyche out. Never even raised the hood on his cars or worked on them. Of course that was when the 255/350 was still rated at 255 so he probably didnt need to

It's great to see a homeboy from NC get acknowledged like this. Growing up in the same neck of the woods as Bobby he name was and still is legendary. I am glad to say I met a living legend and he's from the Tar Heel state! Well deserved!

Anyone who would put syrup in someones car at Indy is lower then whale feces and thats on the bottom of the ocean. I hope who ever did it can look back in pride at the lowest moment in his life. What goes around, comes around.

Had the pleasure of knowing and racing against Bobby in the late 70's early 80's at Blaney and the little Darlington track and others. Always a hero of mine and a class act. Congrats Bobby.
