Who's coming to Indy for the Div 3 LODRS?
 

Bob Glidden will be the Grand Marshall for the NHRA Division 3 season opener of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis April 23-25.

While Glidden is known mainly for his long and successful career in Pro Stock, his first NHRA points meet win came at Indy in 1968 racing Stock Eliminator. That's right, Bob Glidden was one of us! That win at Indy was not to be his only Indy points meet win before turning Pro. In 1971 he won Super Stock at the Indy points meet.

Naming Bob Glidden as Grand Marshall of the season opening race is the beginning of a new promotional push by Division 3 to promote the LODRS. The event has been titled the NHRA LUCAS OIL SPRING SPECTACLE OF SPEED.

Nitro lounge and the Scratcher gang will be there. BTW, this will be the parents 46th year of NHRA drag racing, not bragging cause their my parents but wow that's a long time.

Travis - Got any idea what Mr. Glidden was driving when he won Stock in '68 ? BTW, nice tribute to him and D3 ...........

Jack, I believe Bob was racing his B/S 1965 Galaxie powered by a 427/425 sponsored by Ed Martin Ford.

I'll be their ....Indy Div. was one of the few races I was able to get Vac. for this year.

Planning on being there ,assuming our car is still together :D

Its "on the way home" from Vegas so.....and were Div 3, and well.....

Its racing !

Besides Indy will be "my turn" to drive again :eek:

I always look forward to the Indy LODRS race to start the season off. It's always good to see everybody out and racing after a long winter.

I have a little Bob Glidden story to share...when Kenny and I first started racing...the Super Stocker wasn't running as fast as we felt it should. Kenny had looked at everything and couldn't figure it out. In those days I worked for Cam Dynamics and happened to be talking to Bob...just asking questions and looking for suggestions. Well, Bob told me to have Kenny come to his shop...bring the engine and they would figure it out! Kenny when up on the weekend. Bob and he took the engine apart...it was a learning experience.! All work...no lunch...Bob did take a smoke and coffee break...but that was it! Kenny loved it...he's the same doesn't want to stop for anything until what he working on is finished.

On Sunday Bob started some machine work on the engineand Kenny was busy cleaning parts and laying them out...then all of a sudden Kenny realizes that Bob is missing. It sort of getting late in the day and Kenny has to be at work Monday...so, he started looking for Bob. Of all places he found Bob in front of the TV watching Indiana play basketball. Bob's all work and no play...except when it came to his basketball team...he told Kenny to take a seat...nothing was going to happen until after the game...as soon as it was over...they were back to work...they finished everything...loaded Kenny up and he was on the way back to Memphis.

When Kenny tried to pay Bob he would not take any money! This was way before sponsorships...he was funding his on racing then...but he wouldn't take anything. He just wanted to help...he knew that we loved racing and we didn't have much experience but wanted to learn and do our best.

It didn't take Kenny long to get the car back together and back to the race track....boy it was night and day improvement! That car is long gone but the "education" that Kenny got while he was with Bob....as they say was Priceless!

Bob is and always will be a very special person to Kenny and I!

Now...if we can just keep him from working on it....he left from No Problem going to 4 Wide....talked to him last night..he's in line, #20, just watching NASCAR work with the new wing...good to be retired!

Plan on three from Moneymaker Racing . . . :D It's been almost three years since I have been there (haven't had the heart to go back since our dog Homes died there in my arms in our pits at US Nationals 2007). Alex and Tony have been since, but I haven't. I hope I am ready.
