Live from the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals
Well I'm not here yet, I'm about 300 miles north of Charlotte, NC. With the bad luck that Larry Hill had at the SPORTSnationals he had to withdraw, so everyone will have to get my view on the four-wide. Sorry Larry and Patsy, I have been there. Nothing worse than hurting a engine starting off the season, hope to see you back soon.
I guess I will be getting to the track about 2 or 3 pm. After I get tech in, I will have some more info and pictures. This is the first time for me at the zMax Dragway. Be back later.......... |

Ken,
Drive safe. I think you will be impressed with the facility. It looks like the weather will be great for thursday, friday a little iffy and the rest of the week-end pretty good. Since I am only a fan, I will be there bright and early on thursday and will try and find you. I really appreciate your live reports and I will probably have some photos to post also. Included is one looking back at the tower. Butch |
Re: Live from the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals
pay close attention to the signs when you come off I-85 you'll go past the main entrance to the strip then around behind the round track over the river and through the woods ( i'm being serious) to get you into the back gate @ the sportsman pits. I'f you've never been it's something to see.. We'll be up Sunday on a field trip enjoy

Re: Live from the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals
Ken, It's a real nice place down there. BUT, FYI THERE IS NO WATER OR AIR IN THE PIT AREA FOR YOUR CAR! How did they miss that, I don't know? I believe the sportsman cars will be parked on the right hand side of the track. If you get bored, there is a pit road that runs behind the dirt track. If you follow it down the hill, it runs under the highway and over to the Lowes Motor Speedway track grounds. They'll probably be running the Richard Petty driving experience. It's a nice place for some golf cart/scooter fun and you don't have to cross the highway. I only put this in here for you guys that arrive on Monday with nothing to do for a few days! LOL
The weather is sweet the rest of the week, just cooling off a little later on...enjoy everyone! Wade Mahaffey |

Re: Live from the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals
Cup cars were testing yesterday(tues) and heard they are testing 10 - 3 today, free to sit in the stands. The holding area is next to the oval track. This is a very busy area that all appears to be related to the racing facilities. Had a chance to tour roush yates engine shop yesterday, what an expiriance, then went to MBE cyl heads and what a great shop. Also went to Lenny's shop Ultimate converter concepts. Thanks to lenny and Dawn for loaning us a van for the day. They moved their shop here from connecticut last year and they are busy. good to see good people doing well, they are an extremely nice and hard working couple.
Had a nice cookout last night Al Mark, Kenny Richard made it here around 8. Others were,Harper and crew,Labreque,Markow,Lenny and dawn, Rich Simone and his wife and a freind, Ed Bednaz, my self , daughterr kelly and Tim, sorry for those I forgot. Sun is out and it is great 945 weds am |

Well here we go everyone, first report. I got some pictures, but first a little info about the track and Thursday and Friday's schedule.
I took picture of the schedules and lanes we will be running in, I hate typing. The track is first rate, I don't think there is a bad place park. If you got here early you were on the asphalt, but everyone's road is asphalt. The weather is warm, and is supposed to be nice for the next few days. Tech was crowed, but it went quick. As usual I lost my license and membership card, I seem to being doing this with a greater frequency lately. I will just blame it on getting old. I will post right after this with more stock and super stock cars. Sorry guys if I don't respond to everyone's post, I'm trying to get Live from done and work on the car ...... I'm just skimming over the thread and posting quick. |

Still lots of cars coming in, here are some shots of the tech line and in the pits. I would have to say judging by the faces, this is one happy group of racers. I know I always look at the positive side, and it probably gets a little old for some, but this is what racing is all about. We have class in stk and ss, we have all the sportsman cars here, the weather is great and the track is awesome.

Sorry all, I got side track and could not get any pictures of the track. The sun went down before I finished my chores.
Evan I will give the weather in the morning and after we run. Tomorrow will be a busy day as you can see by the schedule. I will try to give some updates, but be patient. I will give you a good rap up for the day but it might be late. |

Morning,
Here are the current readings from my weather station. Temp 52, Bar 29.32, Humd 64%, DA 710 FT, no wind. I have to get to work, be back after the run. Robert, I will see what I can do. |
Re: Live from the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals
Great pictures as always Ken.
Lane choice is going to be fun in the 4 wide races! |
Re: Live from the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals
Weather: 9.35 am T 64 hum 47 bar 29.36 da 1522ft
I ran Johns, he went a 9.95 at 121 in A, I went a 9.83. I made some changes but I would say its about 5 slower then the gators be back ................ |
Re: Live from the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals
Just a quick note, after the first qualifying I thought is was slower then the gators. I can not explain it, but its about the same for some and maybe a little faster. The air does not show it, but its a fast 1500 feet here.
Just ran second qualifying, most slowed up about 4. Have to get ready for class, be back later. |
Re: Live from the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals
Did any 08 or 10 SCJ show up, I did not see them on DRC?

Re: Live from the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals
First round of class for stock is done. I had to run Grace Howell. I ask Grace if we could run each other first, there was 4 AA cars. I wanted to get it out of the way. Grace said okay and off we went. To add insult to injury Grace strap an .012 on me to my .049. Grace went 9.706 to my 9.808. I was hoping to run a mid 70, but that's all I had. Grace went 129, she killed about 9 mph. I'm figuring she was on a 9.65 run.
Well so goes my class race, time to get ready for the eliminator. I wish I could give you more info, but running class keeps you busy. Since I am out I will watch the second round of class. They should be out soon. There was some sprinkles and we were on hold, but we are back to racing. Stock should be out soon. |
Re: Live from the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals

Re: Live from the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals
Nice to have met some of the sportsman racers of which I have taken pictures. I got a few email addresses to send them some from this week-end. I will be in and about the sportsman pits tomorrow. I will be wearing a Go to Hell hat with an NHRA logo on the front and carrying a blue back pack if anyone else would like pictures. Have a good nite.

I have tons of pictures so I will add them in a few posts. Below are some from the morning qualifying and class.
I will try to keep the rap up of today's racing brief. I got to watch second round of class, but first I want to start with the early qualifying runs. It was cool to talk to everybody in the staging lanes and see the cars I don't see in my division. I met lots of members of Class Racer, fans and racers, along with guys that are building cars for stock. Lots of racers were shutting off in qualifying which is understandable. The thing I noticed more than ever before, cars are shutting off early during class. I try to stay up beat, but it makes it less enjoyable to watch. I understand why they do, but its boring. I choose AA so I don't have to shut off early, its a steep index so its hard to get hp. The second round of class was most of what I said, shutting off early. Some of these cars are going to get hp because they went to fast early in the day, so why they are shutting off now. I'm not in the position to get hp so I am not judging their decision, I just would like to understand why. I think there was two races that the drivers ran it out. I note on Bill Hawk's run. The traction bar broke and pushed Bill over the center-line. His car came up high and there was no way to save the run. I have to say even with some of the not so fun to watch stock class runs, it is still fun to be here. The race track is first class. The track is amazingly fast even when the numbers do not show it. When I ran first round of class. the bar was 29.19 with a temp of 75 and the humidity 32% the da was 2404 ft. I have never been to a track with those kind of numbers and ran this quick. I know some may wonder why I not bummed being beat by the new CJ's. I don't have problem with it because and know this can happen, it happened in the past and its going to happen in the future. I had a good combo but now its just okay, and I'm okay with that. Grace and Bill are good friends and I hope they do well with their new CJ. Well folks that's its until tomorrow, we are out third for first round of eliminations, the only one for the day. I will try make the posts shorter and maybe have some more pictures. Dave, very funny. |
