4-wide question

Just curious what does the time slips look like when there are 4 cars racing? Do you get one time slip with all of the runs or two slips with two cars on each?

Re: 4-wide question

only the pro's would know . the rest of us lowly sportsman racers were only 2 at a time.

I really don't care ! After racing since 1956 and still at it, I think this (4) four lane stuff SUCKS !
Give me back our original 2 lane 1320", or 660"ft and I'll be happy !
It's hard to change an old mind, and routine..............John

Yes i agree with you i dont see the point of the 4 wide yet. it is weird to see 2 cars win and they can be in the same side of the track. What i do think would be cool is if they ran the sportsman 4 wide in qualifying to get done faster so they could give us more qualifying runs but i dont think that would happen

Hopefully, this is a passing fad.

But, be carefull what you wish for. If these dummys can pass this off on the pros, they'll figure a way to pass it of on us too.
Probably, even if there aren't 4 lanes to run on!

Re: 4-wide question

I think it would be O.K. as long as they didn't run both lanes at the same time (4 cars run on the same set of lights).

What about a stagger set-up:
Get the first set of lanes set-up while racing the second set. Could have a longer eliminator session and more racers.
It might make it better for fans watching in the stands, i.e. more entertainment, little to no downtime for track prep, spills, or breakage...

I have yet to see it in person, so I am not 100% sure on my feelings on this...

Re: 4-wide question

4 lanes is stupid !!!!!! you can beat someone and then lose to them the next round.
drag racing is a head to head race with one winner.
its hard to reinvent the wheel

A total Circus act and the pro's will do anything just to see if people will pay to watch.....

4 wide is nothing new.....It was done in the '60's match race era at York and some other places.....

I agree drag racing is, was, an always should be two cars racing each other...

Ever see anyone racing 4 cars wide on the street? NO..... Thats where drag racing was born....

Re: 4-wide question

The Pro Slips included all four lanes. All reaction and incremental times were included with the finishing order on the bottom. I hope they never do 4 lane racing again other than an occasional exhibition. During qualifying or the race if someone timed out, the tree just flashed without all the extra lights lit and you had no way of getting on the launch chip.
That happened in many of the runs and a lot of data was lost due to the format.

EXACTLY! I did a lot of street racing, back in the '60s, and I never saw more than two cars go at a time. What they're doing is like the dirt roundy round boys. Except, they're running six heats and a run off. A man should never have to beat the same opponent twice at one meet.

You can potentially beat someone twice and lose to them in the final.Duhhh.
I heard also that Brutus Bruton is thinking of going 4 wide at Vegas.Remember when
guys were saying "Gee I hope Bruton buys NHRA"?Like the old saying goes,be careful what you wish for,it may come true. This guy is no Wally Parks. He's a former billionaire
looking to resume his former status.

The next thing you know NHRA will be offering "BUY BACKS" (like in BRACKET RACING) into the 4th or 5th round to pad thier $$$$$ intake at all of the races. They sure as hell wont increase the purse either.
