Tech Question

Is the Digital Dash (such as the RacePack) legal in Super Stock?

Re: Tech Question

Are they legal in Stock? I was told by a racer they aren't but nothing official. Travis?

Re: Tech Question

Most of the new GT cars around here have them.

Thanks for the replies
I really want to be sure though - before I plunk down the $$$ (no offense)
Are we sure?

Way to much info is available with that digital dash.
I can't see how it would be allowed.
I would double and triple check before I bought one!

Re: Tech Question

They have been passing tech here in Division 4. If Wesley says they are OK, I would bet my rear they are OK.

I know of two EastTexas SS/GT cars last summer that came with them, and they have run Div 4, Div 6 & 7, divisional and multiple nat'l events.

Yes they are. Why would they not be allowed? Data acquisition systems are allowed as well.

I talked extensivley with Racepak about these and integration with our ECU.

SOME units are legal (some are NOT they have onboard GPS etc)

The guy there seemed to know his stuff like this model witout this, etc.

IDQ , DCX, Whatever they were there were lots of options depending on input output.

Re: Tech Question

If they have been allowed someone is not reading the rulebook. It says in Stock and Super Stock "Full stock dashboard including instruments....must be retained ". If you "retain" the originals, where do you put the digitai dash?

That's the rulebook I keep looking at! I can't believe these are legal. I remember a stocker getting bounced once for having autometer gauges in place of the factory gauges; even a tach in place of the factory speedometer.
And I can think of plenty of ways to cheat with a digital dash in the car. A data logger is NOT the same; it logs data. It doesn't display it as you go down track.
The more I think about it, the more I think there shouldn't be anything but sweeping gauges in a class car, nothing digital.

I don't have my rulebook here at work, but does it say that in the "GT" section as well?

Dave
Sounds like that would work.

Re: Tech Question

The cars I have seen with them had them mounted on those long, tubular steering columns I see on the newer GT cars. Might be kinda close for room in an SS F body.

That's what I was told in the late '90s - no digital gauges where the driver could see them during a run - period. Reasoning was "We have no idea what data those gauges are displaying." Guess that's gone by the wayside. Guess you could argue that a lot of factory cars had digital dashes.
