New B/SA record for Sorenson?
If he backs it up - I think his 10.23 corrects to 9.87 in B/SA unless it is a misprint.

For the record it would actually correct back to a 9.90. At altitude you have to remember what you run under the index isn't exactly what it corrects back to. Either way that's fast.

According to DRC, he's #1 qualifier with 1.384 under.
Joe's always had the fast cars. I remember how fast his '85 Camaro was. Made me switch from a 350 to a 305 in my '81 Camaro :^) Wish I was out there, but my LeBaron has a sick turbo, again(!) |

9.87 is flying!!! Congratulations to that family and team. I was just wondering, I do not remember seeing them at Indy in recent years, do they go? See them running Super Stock at the national events and then stock at the divisionals, what is the reason for that? Is it something to do with those grade points or? They sure do run good up in their division but nowhere else???

That car would be fast wherever it was run. I don't know why they go to Indy, but don't start the "homefield advantage" stuff. As long as I can recall, the Sorensen Brothers have been as fast as they want to be.

The Sorensons were at Indy in 2004. Qualified in the top half, lost a close run to Don Little in semis of A/SA (10.10 to 10.20). So, yes, they are fast, and not just in Div 6 and 7.

Ed, are you suggesting there is a performance enhancing substance in the coolant of their racecar....I've pondered this but I have yet to see anybody talk about it. Since a higher percentage of cars already consume some coolant in their combustion chambers, why not utilize this with some addition of "X" substance? Has anyone ever been busted for such? Does tech ever check? Enlighten me! ;)

Ed, your picking on the wrong guys. Sorenson's car is the elite of the field on the west coast, they don't need any home field advantage.

I was just there for a few seconds to say hi during their tear down and did not pay much attention to how big the bore was. 427 used to be their bullet of choice not sure if they stuck with that going to B/SA |

I saw their parts at the machine shop in the off season (we use the same shop). I'm no expert, but I have known Hal and Joe for about 27 years and they are NOT the type of guys who would cheat. They ARE the type of guys who would work their butts off trying every little variation to squeeze every last hundredth out of their car (and I mean the whole car, not just the engine).

Sean, you bring up a great point. I am a top end guy for "Captain Jack Harris" the nostalgia top fuel car. Hal was also in our hauler several times this weekend working with our crew chief on some sort of Nitro blended Pro Stock oil and using our spark plugs and timing curves for making power up on the mountain. I believe it worked, super fast and 100' plus long wheel stands on the mountain, Stout! Great Job Guys!
