Which gate to enter in Joliet
Does anyone know where they want the participants to enter (or line up) at Joliet today? We have done a couple of different ways in the past. I didn't know if we were supposed to turn between the NASCAR track and the dragstrip, turn into the NASCAR track parking lot and snake around or go all the way to the other side of the NASCAR track and turn in there. If anyone knows, please post the info.
Thanks! |

Re: Which gate to enter in Joliet
I just got an email from NHRA that they were altering the parking plan, anybody know what that new plan is? I was going to leave work and drop the trailer today, but maybe I should wait until tomorrow?
***CHICAGO NATIONAL EVENT PIT PARKING NOTICE*** Due to recent rains pit parking will be altered for the United Association Route 66 NHRA Nationals. When arriving on site please follow the direction of Security Officials and NHRA Pit Control Officials. We strongly encourage you plan to arrive early and if you have any questions once parked to discuss with your NHRA Pit Control Official. Thanks in advance for your cooperation NHRA |
Re: Which gate to enter in Joliet
Got email from Brina Splingaire and they are pitting at the Nascar track.
Oh boy sounds like fun for you guys.... :D |
Re: Which gate to enter in Joliet
This is true. I just talked with Dad and he said that we are pitted at the NASCAR track. He talked with Red to see if they were planning on moving us later and he said no, that we would be staying there for the duration. Which really if you think about it isn't that much different than St Louis or any further than where we pit at the US Nationals. Shouldn't be too bad. Better than being stuck I guess.

Re: Which gate to enter in Joliet
they said you will be able to be towed in all classes to the dirt track and then have to run'em from there.
good luck to all you guys and gals and be safe. might see ya on saturday |
Re: Which gate to enter in Joliet
Lee,
Unless I am confused the dirt track is on the opposite side of the drag strip. Why would we tow over there? I am not sure that towing is an option for us unless we gain some crew members. LOL We have 2 supergas cars and one tow vehicle. |
Re: Which gate to enter in Joliet
Wow,
That's over a mile I believe to the lanes. |
Re: Which gate to enter in Joliet
I am just going from memory, but I don't think it could be much further than when we pit down past the scales at Indy. I hope not, or I may have to have someone haul some fuel to the lanes for me. LOL

Re: Which gate to enter in Joliet
Ryan, the dirt track is where the staging lanes are, when you come in at a bracket race the dirt track is on your rt side. from the nascar track through the back gate and up to the dirt track is a good haul. i would guess a mile too Chuck.

We are outside the gate waiting to get in. So I snapped a couple pictures. I hope they attach. It's at least 1.5 miles to the starting line.
Here you go. |
Re: Which gate to enter in Joliet
A couple of people mentioned that it is just as far in the pits at Indy or St. Louis. That may be, but atleast you were aware that this might be the case before you came. We found out when we pulled in. Had we known, we might have packed an extra bike. We all had the opportunity to back out & apply fees to another race, but we came to race. If you're here with us, good luck & offer a crew member a ride if you see them walking!

Re: Which gate to enter in Joliet
I know that you surely don't have to cross and drive on a public street to get to the staging lanes at Indy or St. Louis. They are at Joliet this weekend.

Re: Which gate to enter in Joliet
Having been parked next to the railroad tracks at Indy a couple of times, I'd rather have that drive to the lanes ,than the one the guys in Chicago will be doing this weekend . .........Tom

Re: Which gate to enter in Joliet
It was 2.6 miles from our pit area to the starting line. I was able to make it all the way there and back without refueling. Even on alcohol. It was sort of a pain, but really it was better than being in the mud. At least they have the option of putting us over there. I don't know what they would have done if they didn't have the other track. Probably send us all home. Hopefully things will dry out enough that we wont have to park over there for the points race.
