Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
Why is it, when someone is having a problem on the starting line, like Jeg was having in the first round, the dork has to start looking at his watch? Does this bother other people like it does me? Gosh I wish we had a different starter! He must think he is important.

Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
We all miss Buster Couch.
|
Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
I cant stand him. Big drama queen! Flips his toggle switch like he is doing something. I think they call it little dick syndrome?
|
Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
You guys hit it on the head.... I love when he touches the ground to see if it raining too. I wish Brad was the starter all the time. Go Cyrus!!!

Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
Buster is watching from above and is shaking his head in disgust! Buster Couch forever! Jim

Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
Lee, I nominate you for the job. You would be well received.

Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
I have a mop in my closet that has more personallity then Rick.
Buster can't be replaced. Greg |
Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
Buster is a tough act to follow, whoever at NHRA in the exec level picked this guy to replace Buster should and could have made a better selection........
|
Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
Bill Floyd..aka "Red Man in the house"....whenever running a starting line, is a racer's friend.
|
Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
I don't know if I would call him a dork , but he has a total lack of personality ! As in he has none ! When he does his shut'em down thing, with the knife across the throat thing, I could just crap !...........I had to voice my opinion,,,,,,,John

Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
We have Rick Stewart at the start, he rushes you to stage, makes a BIG FOOL out of himself & the NHRA with his antics, THEN to add insult to injury, we have Gary Gerald at the end who can't wait to interview you and talk about all the NEGATIVE things: how you can deal with your loss, your crash, your fire, points loss, tragedy, etc. People like this we don't need to represent us drag racers.
|
Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
I think we all miss Buster Couch and Steve Evans. Buster was great to see at the start of a race and Steve was great to see at the end of a race.

Another one is Bret Kepner...always did great interviews. ESPN needs to take Lewis Bloom (Statguy) out of the truck and put him into the booth..he's the real deal....nothing like Louie announcing at a D1 race...he's the best !!!! |
Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
I agree, Lewis Bloom should have a more prominate role in the telecasts, his knowledge runs circles around Paul Page. And Rick Stewart is an attention *****, all his stupid gestures, and actions are embarrasing.
|
Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
And he's not a big fan of us sportsman racers.
|
Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
In a perfect "sportsman" world broadcast you could have Kepner (who really gave a crap about SST-TF), Mr. Bloom (who spent tons of time at E-Town seeing/announcing a lot of racers grow) Leo Taugher (think I'm spelling that right) who vocalized D3, Nationals and some D1 races in the past. And Mr. Frey who encompasses so many facets of drag racing's sportsman and professional interests on a whole.

Buster at 1974 Sportsnationals knew I had this picture of him.
We were class r/u to Bill Felker in ss/ha with our 68 Camaro that we have now restored and take to cruise ins. |
Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
Everyone still remembers Buster Couch as the best starter ever.....Surely always a gentleman to everyone, BUT, you'd better not screw with him or you'd soon be backing away from the starting line.....sorry, but IMO, Rick S. couldn't even carry Buster's gym bag.... Bob Frye and Louis Bloom are the 2 best at the microphone that NHRA has right now, for sure....Too bad they couldn't get Brett Kepner and Mike Joy ( Nascar), as well--They're 1st class like Frye and Bloom. Years ago, (70's and 80's) when my family was oval track ice racing snowmobiles in the winter, Paul Paige was doing announcing at the major events....he did a good job back then, sleds were his specialty, and am almost sure that's where he got started in announcing.... Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
Don't forget Alan Rienhart (I hope I spelled his name right).
He is the best sportsman announcer of the group in my opinion other than Bob Frey. That duo is one I like to listen to at the races or on the internet. Plus Alan also straps on a helmet every once and awhile to compete. Just My 2 Cents |

Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
To me ex-Raceway Park announcer Bobby Doerrer was the best, i.e. most exciting and entertaining. I say NHRA should hire him!
"Attention in the pits: The following classes to the stagiing lanes: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Doggie gassers...." Yeah, Beserko was da man! "And a rat-tat-tat..." as the fuel funnycars were inching up to the line, etc. That and a whole lot more extemporaneous, three ring circus-type craziness that I no longer remember from this man. Buster would be ashamed of the entire NHRA today and especially the way Sportsman Racers are treated.......and he would detest this clown that has his job now!

Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
first i am not a big fan of rick, but the reason he looked at his watch is for the set time allowed to fix/stage when there is a problem, it's in the rule book wait what book
the web page . leo on mike & red man on line jim |
Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
I think you guys should step up and say what you really think. As for me, I have way too much class, cooth, and culture to be involved in such discussions.
|
Re: Nhra starter is a dork!!!!!
I don’t like Rick’s style. But the fact is Buster was so good that no matter who came after him people were not going to like him. No the next person will have it made unless he/she is a total *****.
