How about Roy Johnson with the same combo #2 @ .430 sec behind him!..........Most of the cars that were at E-town last week look to be .10 to .15 slower. .......Mabe Roy will tune it up for the next Q round. ..........Tom

NHRA never worried about if they were legal or not before (426 Street Hemi in an E body). They just hammered them with HP.

They ran quicker than some pretty fast B cars..
3.25% won't slow them down.

Guess if they want to know how fast it will run with no penalty, that's one way to do it. Ain't right, but that's how some play the game.

Some just use the wrong rockers. :D

Just kidding Jeff!!

Wow, Roy Johnson just ran 10.630 (-1.220) for the #2 spot! That's right behind Eric Merryfield who went 10.586 (-1.264) in the first round...

That's another thing that a lot of people who claim the AHFS will fix the problems quickly do not get. When you aren't dealing with a HP factor in the 400HP zone, 3.25% doesn't add a lot. It's 13HP on a 400HP combination, 12HP on a 350HP combination, and 10HP on a 300HP combination, if NHRA rounds the HP up, not a big deal if the combination is say 30-40HP light to begin with.

Re: HP on monday???

I'm building one in my shop right now with a 6.1 ,and when I first saw the engine spec sheet ,I thought the 5.7 HP was a misprint! ......90 less HP than a 6.1 with the only real difference being 24 cubic inches. ........It'll take a while but I'll bet the HP ends up near 375. .........Tom

Gary Parker 06-18-2010 12:52 PM

Re: HP on monday???

It was a legal run, my bad

Bryan Worner 06-18-2010 01:25 PM

Re: HP on monday???

If he was light on the scales, he would show as a dq on the qualifying sheet! It must be a legal run since he's shown at the top. Unless a revised q1 comes out, he was good with weight.

Re: HP on monday???

I've got a question for you.
If 2 cars (same package, class etc.) run better than 1.25 under does the combo get hit twice with instant horsepower?
This could happen in a couple of cases in stock and superstock.
And I would like it to be clarified one way or the other?

Ed Wright 06-18-2010 01:37 PM

Re: HP on monday???

Should get it twice, right? That would make it an obvious bogus factor, not just one really sharp guy with a really outstanding car.

Greg Hill 06-18-2010 02:07 PM

Re: HP on monday???

I talked to a guy who is involved with a Challenger with the 5.7 motor. 600hp with a cam change and valve spring change. Imagine what these motors are capable of.

Did you notice the big bad blown Ford Mustand AA/S car is third at only 139 MPH right behind the DP Challengers at an altitude track with a low barometer? LOL Yeah NHRA the HP factors are dead on.

Third, yet it's still 2 tenths in front of the first "real" car.

Merryfield over Johnson for F/SA class. Johnson goes red ,both cars go 11.0's to help weigh down the average. ........Tom

Tony Janes 06-18-2010 04:58 PM

Re: HP on monday???

The average does not mean anything when one goes more than 1.25 under. It starts over at the next national event with new horsepower.

Tom:
Any resemblance between the "high rise" in this photo and that of the new Drag Pucks is not purely coincidental.

A photo of Drag Pak No.1 is shown for reference in case you need updated info.
Yes, those headers have a Mopar part no.!! LOL

Yes it indeed is drag pak #53.

Mike Roth did the amazing buildout and plumbing, and sourced the wiring guru Rick, graphics, etc, etc, etc. It is truly a stunning race car. The engineering, and attention to detail and craftmanship are second to none(in my humble opinion)

Rick Allison did the tranny
Jeff Taylor went through the motor.

Picked it up in Lebanon IN Wensday around 5PM. 1 1-2 shift on his street, quick do's and don't. Towed on open aluminum trailer straight to Bristol Thursday in time for sign in and tech.

The cars maiden run down the track was the #1 qualifying run.
She won class later in the day....
I learned a lot about this new race car, especially what not to do in eliminations! Will make some tweaks to it for my driving style.
And yes it earned HP on Monday.
The car is called the Minuteman Missile.
Missile's go flat out, they don't lift.

Great Name, Congrats on passing teardown ! Excellent !

But the name is excellent, I think were gonna have some fun with the 5.7's :)

Especially with me being able now we have a driver to concentrate on making it go fast, and faster, and lather rinse repeat.
