Stolen car
1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,
Someone stole my 68 camaro SS early this morning. If you see one pop up for sale or someone trying to move parts send me a pm. It is a street car with a pretty stout 383 stroker motor and turbo trans. It was taken from Jacksonville. NC. I bought it for my son's 16th birthday. I appreciate any help. Thanks, Doyle |
Re: Stolen car
That sucks, go over to www.yellowbullet.com and post it over there as well. Hopefully someone will find it.
|
Re: Stolen car
Doyle, also post your stolen car thread and details over on: www.ls1tech.com There's alot of both early and late model Camaro action over on that site....the more that see it in the Carolinas' and surrounding states areas----the better chance you might get a lead on it....that's a shame....very nice car, for sure. Hopelly, you'll get some help and also some luck in recovering this big loss...:( WJ

Re: Stolen car
It takes a real piece of crap to steal something that someone worked hard to get.. Good luck and we'll keep our eyes peeled up here..

Re: Stolen car
This is bad. That is one good looking car. I have two camaros that I have restored. I have two friends here in the Raleigh area who have been buying restoring and selling these 60's camaros for many years. I call both of them this morning and alerted them about your car and to be suspicious of a camaro like this or parts that all of a sudden appear.
Doyle go on two car show web sites Carsolina and Cruzin Carolina and post the car stolen. The sooner the information gets out the better the chances that you will locate it. These are sites with people who appreciate that camaro. Hope you have good luck in recovering it. |
Re: Stolen car
That is a shame. Remember what they used to do to horse thieves. I would have a car like that locked up in a garage with a rabid pit bull guarding it.
|
Re: Stolen car
Maybe notify Racing Junk and see if it could be put on there. Come on guys let's think of every site we can, Stop this crook ASAP.
|
Re: Stolen car
I just saw on a news site, referenced on yellow bullet, that a blue roll back was also stolen from Modern Tire Company.
|
Re: Stolen car
Also put it on www.pro-touring.com.
RacingJunk.com does not prevent anything from being posted. Just put it in the for sale section with STOLEN at the front. You can do 2 free ads. Put 1 in Chevrolet/Camaro and the other wherever. I hope it comes back to you. My 68 was my 16th birthday present in 1986, and I still have it, and will never sell it. I will watch all the sites that I visit. Clark |
Re: Stolen car
First of all - thanks for all the assistance.
I truly appreciate it a lot. The one thing about the racing community is even though they want to put you on the trailer - they don't care for thiefs and are a fairly close group. Chris, I think they used the rollback from Modern Tire to load my car up. Someone called and thinks they spotted my car near Warsaw, NC and I-40 yesterday. So who knows where it is now. But once again - thanks for all the help. Doyle |
Re: Stolen car
Go to Craigs list for that state and area then post it on evey place you can. I get alot of calls from that area on Craigs list.
|
Re: Stolen car
Doyle,
I did a search on Fayetteville craigslist. There was several adds for 383 engines and several adds for camaros one was the same color as yours but not as nice. I would start looking there. You can't count on our overworked and underpaid Lawenforcement to help. THey are to busy writing me Stop sign tickets and harrassing racers to do what they are paid to do. Chip Johnson |
Re: Stolen car
Doyle:
I am sorry I just got back on this site. As soon as you can contact your police department and port security at the Port at Wilmington. There have been stories going around between collector and just week-end car show people that nice cars are being stolen and shipped overseas to people who do care how they get the American collector car as long as they get them. Quick contact their security. I'll bet that roll-back is now parked in that area somewhere. |
Re: Stolen car
Doyle, have you heard anything about you car?
|
Re: Stolen car
Chris,
No leads yet - the camaro spotted at Warsaw wasn't mine according to the police. I learned a valuable lesson - don't forget to put insurance on any of your toys. I'm checking on some of the local crooks and some people who have asked about it in the past. Thanks for asking. Doyle |
Re: Stolen car
Doyle, please tell me that you had replacement classic car insurance on you car. Here, in North Carolina, if you do not have agreed value coverage on a classic car, it is only worth what the book value is. Most of us in the Raleigh area learned this a few years ago when a guy had a restored '57 chevy truck hit by an uninsured motorist. The insurance company totaled the truck and offered him $1500 for it.
|
Re: Stolen car
No - no insurance except regular liability. I'm an idiot - I admit it. I thought I lived in a decent neighborhood and had it blocked in by one of my vehicles. I was wrong on both accounts.
A lot of my buddies went out and put ins on their cars immediately. At least someone benefits besides the jerks that stole it. Been bummed out, but if I caught them in the act - another crime would have been committted. So, I guess it could have been worse. My son is really depressed - but it was actually too much car for a young kid. So maybe it was a blessing in disguise. Take care, Doyle |
Re: Stolen car
Anyone who is interested, give a call to Classic & Specialty Auto Insurance in Raleigh. These folks can write a policy from several classic and specialty car companies with no limit on the mile you can drive and agreed value. They are one of our sponsors and by the way they can also write drag race car policies.

Re: Stolen car
Doyle:
Was your camaro recovered? I just heard on the WRAL news that they have got three Marines for stealing cars, roll back and other items in Jacksonville area. Hope you have recovered that car. Good luck I have just heard that a 68 restored camaro was recovered in Arkansas, is that yours? |
Re: Stolen car
Is there a vin you can post.

Re: Stolen car

Lot of good people out there and I will personally thank you if I ever have the fortune of meeting you. Now trying to figure out the best way to get it back - I'm 17 hours away. Re: Stolen car
That's great news Doyle. I just hope it hasn't been worked over or damaged in any way by the morons who took it, or by anyone where it's being stored....unfortunately, that sometimes happens after the actual theft recovery. Best of luck with it. WJ

Re: Stolen car
Mr Evans
I am just guessing by some of the posts that you might be near MCAS Cherry Point (Havlock) or Jacksonville (camp legune). My son is stationed at cherry point and I will be leaving to see him the evening of Sunday the Aug 8 and headed your way. I am in so IL about an hour east of st louis and about 5 hours N. of Little Rock NC. If you can get the car closer to me I would be willing to help get it the rest of the way to you.. If we had a little more time before the 8th I would just run down and get it but I am going to be slammed this week in the shop since I am leaving for vacation Call me if interested. Rob Petrie 618 237 0160 PS NO charge just happy to help. |
Re: Stolen car
I am not real far from Hot Springs and could move the car from there to Tyler, TX if nothing works out. No Charges if needed just send me a PM. Glad they caught the dirt bags !

Re: Stolen car
Doyle -- That's great news that they found your sons ride - hope its OK .Couple that with the fact that you have Internet friends helping you transport it home I'd say maybe Church is in order tomorrow .
I myself have been searching for a car for the last two and a half years with no answers or leads - but then this is a "cold case" - it was stolen forty-one years ago .Something to do in my spare time for sure .Met a great many nice people thru the process though..............Even some friends from ClassRacer have helped -- Jerry MacNeish helped with some "Government " friends that have opened doors ........its been interesting but results would be neat . |
Re: Stolen car
Once again - you can't go wrong with the racing community.
You guys are all right!! I'll probably go ahead and use Auto Bahn to bring the car. I really don't want to inconvenience any of you. And yes Rob, I'm about 45 minutes from Cherry Point. If you or your son ever need anything let me know. I'm close to Coastal Plains Dragway in Jacksonville & Kinston Dragway. Take Care Doyle |
Re: Stolen car
If you change your mind just let me know. The toter will not even know it back there. I think they are having a big footbrake race at the track in jacksonville this fall. Look me up if you are racing at it I am going to make it a 2 for one deal and race and see the boy before he leaves to go for another round in Iraq. Congrats on getting the car back. I talked to my son this morning and they were told about it at thier friday meeting but he does not know any of the scumbags. I hope they rot in hell and your car comes back in the same condition it was when it left. If it helps any the punishment that the Marines give them will be worse than anything our Justice system ever does.
Take care Rob |
Re: Stolen car
Doyle Congratulations on the recovery, I hope the return and the condition is acceptable for you.
Jack, Keep up the fight. I was at an IMOA convention(International Mercury Owners Assoc) and a fellow from New Jersey telling the story of his younger days when he and a friend used to drive to work at the Prudential(he lived in the Boston area then) building and had his car stolen. 30+ years later the cops knock on his door and ask him if a rusty toolbox was his. He opens it to find a wadded up raincoat and several tools all rusted together into one tool. He says he thinks he had them in the car when it was stolen. So he asks where it was found, it had been buried in a construction mound around a building for 30 years and when the building was coming down the mound was taken out and the "smashed" car was found, but the toolbox sort of survived. My wife and I cried, laughing with him telling the story, then my wife said, did they find Hoffa in it also? We laughed even more. |
