Race Issues...
I was asked to inquire about trying to do more on Fridays at Division 3 divisionals....at least in the summer months when we can.
Or maybe run alcohol cars on Friday and Saturday and leave Sunday to the sportsman so it can complete earlier in the day. What do you guys think about this one....I'm sure I will speak with Jay in Stanton about this and I would like to hear what some of you guys think....... Issue #2 It looks like some of the top dragster and super comp guys have had to remove their secondary brake handle at national events. As the rules read it is illegal. The handle must be connected to the primary braking system. I asked for the rule to be reviewed and changed as for the most part the secondary system is used for safety and ease of loading and unloading. Before you say that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard, I know it is....The rule was written for other reasons years ago and somebody just recently noticed it and started enforcing it......I remember cars having it way back ...10 to 15 years ago... So hopefully they will fix that up.... If there is something you guys want me to look into....send me a note.....Nothing happens too quickly.....I'm sure you know.... Rock Haas |
Re: Race Issues...
Since i was voted most popular driver in div 3 some years ago I think a bikini or wet t shirt contest on saturday at 5pm would be nice( HOT chicks only ).
Having no alcohol cars on sunday is a good thing. I'm sure CR would love to be a judge. LOL |
Re: Race Issues...
Alcohol cars running to completion on Saturday is a great idea! Also, if everyone else continues to run 1st round on Saturday, run 1st round of SST on Saturday as well. Don't understand that one at all, and it REALLY SUCKS to run your TT at 9:30 and be done for the day!!!

Re: Race Issues...
Rock, you might ask about the 18yrs deal if you would........since the Tobacco Co. are no long assoc. with NHRA I'd think that would no longer be an issue.
Yeah, I've too had my butt handed to me by youngins like Shipp, Whitefoot, and others but now it's my youngin that could be doing the whoopin ! lol lol Rick Bailey |
Re: Race Issues...
I would be interested in lifting the rule if you run 10.90 that is the only class you can run. What is the difference between a driver running 10.90 and 9.90 or running 9.90 and 8.90, or 10.90 and super stock?

Re: Race Issues...
How about no entry fees. Gas money. 1st. rd. loser money. Motorhome hookups. Paved parking. No friday except t&t if you want. 1 time run Sat. then run till dark and finish Sunday if necessary.Alcohol on fri. night to draw crowd for track. Oh, free beer too. That's about it for me.
Thanks Rock |

Re: Race Issues...
1st round for S/ST on Saturday would be a big improvement.

Re: Race Issues...
I'll agree with Bob on the first round on Sat for S/ST.
|
Re: Race Issues...
I also agree on the first round on Saturday for S/ST.
|
Re: Race Issues...

Re: Race Issues...
Rock,
I am not in D3, but lets get rid of the 10.90 rule, and I hope in my division we can start running R1 on Saturday's? Thanks for starting this thread "Rock".:D Bighead |
Re: Race Issues...
Several years ago I had a dragster with front brakes for static burnouts. I had a handle for the front brakes which made it great for unloading. They bounced me in tech at Pomona for a secondary braking system. I had to disable before they would pass me. Really dumb rule. (thanks John Force)

Re: Race Issues...
1st rd for super street on saturday and allowing s/st drivers to race in a second class

Re: Race Issues...
How about lowering the weight limit for S/ST down to 2500 or 2400? As it was explained to me at the time by an NHRA official, the increase from 2500 to 2800 was to minimize the RT advantage of tube chassis cars back when they were on a 0.400 pro tree. Now that the tree is 0.500 it would probably be in everyone's best interest to not have 300 or 400 lbs of ballast on these 150+ mph S/ST cars...

Glad to see Joe changed Sun to Sat on first round for s/st |
Re: Race Issues...
I would like to see anything done that would shorten Sunday and get us home earlier.
I would like to see the hand brake rule removed, I had it installed on my new American as a safety item. Thanks Rock, BB |
Re: Race Issues...
Rock,
as one of the unlucky souls that (generally, uncompetitively) races an overweight, mostly steel Chevy II in SG because I want also to run SC, I'd support the recommendation from Alex and others to drop the "one class" rule for S/ST... I might have a chance to move from a 3-digit to a 2-digit reaction time in that case... I don't, however, think it makes sense to invite more true (i.e., lightweight, tube chassis) SG cars to run in S/ST by lowering the min weight for S/ST. Need to give the little guys a chance to run without being 25-30mph slower on the top end than their competitor (like I am today in SG...). Also allows the local racer to run their bracket beater at a divisional event when the show is in town. See you in Stanton. srm |
Re: Race Issues...
I will add the Scotty rule to the list.....I don't think there's any reason to curb participation.....

My selfish reasoning is just so people like me (with 80's vintage Super-Gas cars) can run something competitive (maybe 140 mph in S/ST) without spending a fortune. It's interesting, there have been several LODRS and National Open S/ST races won out here by 125-130 mph cars, so obviously the speeds aren't everything! |
Re: Race Issues...
I would also like to see the secondary brake rule fixed. I don't have a SC dragster, but the same rule trickles down to my daughters Jr. M&M built it with dual brakes and a handle. And we like it for the safety aspect as well as using it with a velcro latch that allows it to be used as a parking brake so she can get out of the car without it wanting to roll away. As junior racers we don't have a sportsman advocate. We just have to listen to the seven member panel that, don't race Jrs, or ever had kids that did make rules on stuff they admit they know very little about. And when we ask questions they don't even respond to us... I know hard to believe!

Re: Race Issues...
In regard to the 18 year old rule.
As not to overload Rock, I sent NHRA a e-mail about the rule. Read the following; My question is after their reply.............. But anyway...................I DON"T GET IT !!! ???? Rick Bailey ??? Rick, We are mandated by our insurance company on the age restriction. Thank Josh Peterson Director of Racing Administration From: Rick Bailey [mailto:br3439sc3@comcast.net] Sent: Monday, July 12, 2010 3:41 PM To: NHRA Web Email Subject: For Competition Dept Hello, my question is in regard the entry age for a National event. I know at this time it is min. 18 years of age. However, with the Tobacco industries no longer involved with NHRA, this rule appeares to be redundant. Can this rule be changed to a lisensed driver once again. Thank-You Rick Bailey S/C 3439 |
Re: Race Issues...
But they can race at a divisional or bracket race? And I bet it's the same K&K Insurance that it has been for the last 40 years. Look at the bright side, they responded. More than we got.
