Pit vehicle insurance

I tried searching the forum, but can't find anything about this. I am going to my first National this month, and have heard people talk about having insurance on golf carts or motorcycles they drive around in the pits. Can anyone give me some details on this, or tell me where I can find the info from NHRA. Thanks.

Try an independent insurance agent , Mine got my golf cart insured thru Formost Insurance Co. ....Very reasonable , about $55 a year. ....Tom

Before you buy ins check and see if your home owners covers it. Mine did and my agent just made me several copy's that showed it (golf cart) was covered...........end of story.

I will do that. My question was more wondering do I actually need it, versus who can I get it through.

Jeff,

It is my understanding that what you need for your pit vehicle
is liability insurance incase you run into someone or something.

And you should be able to get a rider from your auto insurance
to cover that need.

But yes you will have to prove you have such insurance for your
pit vehicle and they will then give (sell?) you a sticker to place
on your pit vehicle.

I have two golf carts--pay about $75 a year for the two--carry the proof of insurance--never been checked--I run a half dozen national events a year--still carry the proof, in case.

Isn't that always the case. If you do the right thing, no one cares. But don't have what you need, and watch what happens.

I am an insurance agent, I know worse than lawyers, lol.

Anyway, I have progressive insurance on my golf cart. It was noted on here that home owners or auto policies may cover it, look very closely, usually home owners does cover golf carts BUT only on your property! Your coverage may vary but this is usually the case, thus golf cart insurance may be needed.

It is very inexpesive and if something happens it will be very much worth it!

Bottom line, yes you do need your pit vehicle covered with liability insurance of some sort, I think it is at least a 100K limit?

Yeah, I just talked to my State Farm agent, and she said homeowner's does not cover it. She is getting me a quote, so we will see what happens. Thanks for all the advice.

At that low cost ,you might want to check your limits of liability. ....I'm not worried about the replacement cost of the cart, I want to be sure I'm covered if I hit somebody or something!!.......I know two racers who had cars damaged before NHRA implemented the insurance requirement . ...Got the old, yeah I'll pay for the damages line. ........@ $50 a year , my passengers and I are also covered. ..........The pits are probably the most dangerous place at the races, I want to be covered. .....Tom
