Stock Super/Stock pictures from late 80s
 

I used to live in La Verne, CA only a few minutes away from Pomona Raceway---and used to go to the Winter Nationals every year. My favorite class to watch was stock / superstock. I loved how the cars still looked like cars, yet would pull the carry the front wheels. I thought they were very exciting to watch and never did get why most were only interested in Pro Stock, TF Funny Car and Top Fuel.

Anyway, this was way back in 1985-1989 or so. I was going through some stuff in the garage and found a box of photos, slides, and negatives and came across a bunch of these pictures. I was 19 at the time so the are not the best photos, and I wish I took better care of them--they were in a large shoe box for 20 years.

Anyway I thought that many of you would recognize the following cars. These guys were my heros, Moreno, Calvert, Waldo, and my all time favorite, the DeFrank and Cohen SS/AA Hemi Cuda. I actually liked all of these cars.

Most pictures are from Feb 1988 and 1989, all though a few are also from the early 90s.

These are absolutely great!! You positioned yourself in the right place at the right time on all of these. I raced a blue 66 Chevy stocker back then and I was there as a racer .That was a neat time in Div.7. What else do you have??

Great shots...I happened to be there in 87/88 and remember seeing those cars....and your right...I also had more interest in these cars than the pros....remember seeing my first 87 camaro with a big block in it at that race....man that was better than any pro stocker to me.

Calvert's mustang was the inspiration and the reason why I worked for 1 1/2 years as a dishwasher, then a busboy to save $3400 to buy a 1967 GTA Mustang with a 390 in 1985. I put a 428 in it and raced it a LACR, it eventually turned 10.80s:

I lived in So. Cal. all thru the 80's and when I went to the '83 Winternationals, that was the day I was hooked on Stock/Super Stock racing.
Those pics bring back alot of memories of Pomona. :)

Those are great. It's amazing how many of those cars I remember from going to the races as a little boy. Little's 'Cuda & Linda Myers' Challenger were two of my favorite cars.

This next series I am 90 percent positive was all from 84-85. I just got my first camera for Christmas, is was a Canon AE-1, with a standard lense. I was saving money for a zoom lense but didn't have the money by the time the Winter Nationals was in FEB, so that is why a lot of the pics the cars are small. I was only 17 at the time, just learning to take pictures.

Some gret shotd, with sdome cars that I haven`t seen in years, like Dan Reinholds 67 Fairlane, and Scott Hiltons 67 Mustang, both 390`s. Anybody know whatever happened to those 2 cars? For those that didn`t know, Bob Hesters old 69 Mustang is the same green car that Eric Waldo has been racing for quite a few years now. Who ran the "Resurection" Mustang? I can`t say I had even seen that one before. There was even a shot of Dave Wrens old SS/AM 68 Hemi Cuda. Just this past weekend Wren was racing his original 63 aluminum nose Max Wedge Plymouth at Mission Raceway in the Hot Rod class, in which he runner upped. This is the same car that was runner up at the 1968 Winternationals. Lots of cool "old days" stories from Mr. Wren!

That is Richie Pauley driving Dennis Alvey's 68 mustang. It was call resurection before it was painted blue with the white stripes. Most of these cars circulate forever.

Nice Pics!!! I bought the orange 70 mustang C/SA from Fred Mareno (super nice guy) later that year in AZ at the track. I won the gater nats in 90 with it. Its now restored and sits in the show room of a Ford dealer.
