Chris "Drooze" Wertman Memorial Fund
 

As we reflect on the tragic loss of our beloved Drooze and taking in consideration that he left behind three precious children, I feel our community should put an effort to establish a memorial fund for the children.

I do not have any experience on doing something like this, but I know others on this forum do.

When established, I am ready to contribute.

Any thoughts on this?

Get Keith Lynch to go to a local bank and open an acct. and post the mailing address and the fund name, that way everyone can send direct to the bank for the children.

How about a decal. If somebody can do them I will send you a couple of hundred to get some materials to get started. Be nice to see a bunch of cars at Indy with them as a tribute to him as I know he was looking forward to it.

If its in the big guys plans for me to finally make it out this year I will be flying a Drooze sticker regardless if anyone else has one made. I of course will purchase any sticker anybody else has made!

hOW ABOUT A GOOD DECAL PRODUCER LIKE "STAGELIGHT" (MIKE BEARD) PRODUCING A DECAL(WITH DAVE WERTMAN'S APPROVAL OF COURSE), AND ALL PROCEDES TO DROOZE KIDS FUND. COUNT ME IN REGARDLESS OF THE FACT BE IT A FUND IN THE KIDS NAME OR BUYING MEMORIAL DROOZE DECAL IF SOMEONE WILL MAKE THEM LIKE MR. BEARD.

Hi Guys, Dave or I will be posting a address for cards that anyone would like to send. Viewing will be Thursday and again Dave will be posting address and times. Decals would be a nice tribute to Chris and I would pitch in if we could find someone to make them. Dave and family members are very grateful, as I am, for all the support that you family of classracers are showing for "Drooze". Thank you all, Keith

An address to send cards has been posted in the other thread.

A fund has been set up with Fifth Third Bank.

It is the "Chris Wertman Memorial Fund" and any donations will go to the benefit of his three children, David, Max and Isabella

Any branch of Fifth Third Bank can take donations and will record the givers name. If anyone wishes to mail a check for the fund rather than going into a Fifth Third Bank, Checks should be made out to "Chris Wertman Memorial Fund" and sent to David Wertman, 1854 Goodyear Blvd, Akron, Ohio 44305. The checks will be turned over to Chris' mother who will record, and deposit them. HIs mother is the administrator of the fund and will handle everything relating to it.

Your generosity is overwhelming and much appreciated.

We are in for a sticker for our four stockers too! Irving Family Racing.

We lost my brother and my boy's uncle suddenly at 37 years of age.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier... just been slam busy and have barely been skimming the board. I will gladly design and print decals "at cost", if someone is willing to handle the distribution/collection from there on out.

It would be great if somewhere on the decal it said "Live Every Day Like it's Your Last" because in his short time in drag racing it sure seemed like he did, Paul.

Or in a more space saving version "Live like you're dying". I think he would definitely appreciate that. That's definitely a kind of motto we had around NHR since before I came on board in April.

I'd definitely like to get one, even though I don't have a race car of my own, I'd still like one for my everyday car. If I can somehow help with this please let me know.

Since I have done this 2 times before here on classracer I will offer again. People wanting to use their credit cards to donate to the Children s Fund can do so thru my web site

Make sure to include your mailing address if you use my site. A list can be sent to me from David to be able to send decals to folks that make direct donations to the bank. We hate leaving everyone hanging but once the family has time to think Mandie and David will let everyone know how to go forward. You can still send to the bank or David or use my website. Either way you will get a response and once we get the decals they will be sent out.

NORTON -- Christopher D. ``Chris' Wertman, 38, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2010 as the result of a house fire.

He was a lifelong resident of the greater Akron area. His professional careers included computer systems architect and all around computer wizard, plumber and race car builder and driver, known in the racing community as, Chris ``Drooze' Wertman. Chris was a devoted and loving son and father who beamed when proudly speaking of his children. He was truly passionate about his interests and his family and always maintained a never-give-up attitude. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. As one close friend said, ``If you are lucky, you will meet someone like Chris once in your lifetime.'

Preceded in death by his grandparents, Rollin and Frances Snowball, John and Freda Lombardi, Chris is survived by his father, David Wertman; mother, Linda Snowball; stepfather, Francis Stoughton; sons, David (Spongemonkey) and MAXimillian (Bugs) and daughter, IsaBella (Boo-Boo Kitty) and many other relatives and friends.

Calling hours will be Thursday, August 5, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton 44203. A memorial service will be held for family and friends at the funeral home on Friday, August 6, 2010 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made at any 5th 3trd Bank Center to the Chris Wertman Memorial Fund for the benefit of his three children.

Just a quick "thank you" to the many of you who have already donated to the fund. Each will shortly receive a note acknowleding your wonderfully gracious gifts.

When the decals are ready, we will let everyone know how to get them.

But once again the drag racing community is standing tall and being very gracious in their support for Chris' young children. I am humbled to know that Chris had such a profound and I expect, lasting effect on you all.

Well I have to go now. I am on my way to work on some "secret squirrel" stuff for the Mega Maniac. I can't tell you what we are up to, or what will happen, but I do suggest that you look for us in Indy.

Anybody know if there will be some decals available (for donations of course) at Indy? Great to see the Mega Maniac car will be there; there will be a whole lot of folks pulling for Keith and David!
