Trailer Killers!
I'm bored, try to comprehend what it would be like dragging these combos around! And the kick is some of them don't look too bad!
71 Chrysler T+C 3s wagon 383/300/295 makes P/SA at only 4890 lbs. 74 Ford Country Squire 460/195/300 can make Q at only 5270 lbs. 75 Pontiac Grand Ville 3s wagon 455/200/310 makes Q at 5440 lbs. 76Chrysler T+C 3s wagon 400/210/310 also makes Q at 5440 lbs. 75 Buick Estate wagon 3s 455/205/300 can make Q at a svelt 5270 lbs. BUT the same car can make R at 5570! But the biggest groaner of them all has to be 76 Chevy Caprice Estate wagon 454/225/320 gets into Q at an insane 5610 lbs! These kinda make Capt. Jacks 60 Chevy wagon 283/230/215 look pretty light in the a** in U/SA at only 4470! |
Re: Trailer Killers!
Billy any of those automobiles left around? At that weight they're at,you know for sure someone has shipped it in tiny little pieces to China. How about a 1971 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser 455/320hp where would it end it up,Q/sa. CR
|
Re: Trailer Killers!
....not to mention drivetrain and tire killers!
Only thing worse would be a stick option. :p |
Re: Trailer Killers!
Billy you have way to much time or its very hot on the farm Lol.
|
Re: Trailer Killers!
No worries about where to place one's weary head at night however, huh Billy?
|
Re: Trailer Killers!
How about a 1978 Caddy Fleetwood, 425/ 180 / 243 for U/SA ,at a svelt 5030 lbs?
I'll bet you could drive one of those babies to the track and run high 14's ,under the index with a little work |
Re: Trailer Killers!
Leave it to Billy to find them. In his hands they'd likely be a handful to beat in class too.
|
Re: Trailer Killers!
73 Pontiac Grand Safari 3s 455/250@315 P/SA 5210 (I know this combo will run!!!) ;)
|
Re: Trailer Killers!
67 Belvidere II wagon with a hemi E class car almost 4500.
Now thats a part breaker. |
Re: Trailer Killers!
You might find that most of these combos ended up at demo derbies.

Re: Trailer Killers!
In the late 70's I built a 1969 chevy brookwood stationwagon, it was a 396 /265 h.p. 2bbl engine,and a t-400 trans, weight with driver for Q/SA 4705 lb's# it wasn't very quick back then @ 14.17 e.t and 83 mph, but it would pull the front wheels 2 feet off the line ..

Does anyone remember a 68 Ford Country Squire called the "Jolly Green Giant"?. It used to really wind up a crowd to watch this tank get to half track and then see if some COPO/Hemi/FE combo could reel it in. It was some 352/390 combo that must have put it in, like, triple Z automatic....................:D |

Re: Trailer Killers!
1970 Ford T-bird, 429 cid, 360 hp factory and NHRA. Fits naturally into I/SA. 4,490 pounds. Might be one of, if not the, heaviest I/SA cars around.
|
Re: Trailer Killers!
Thank you X man!;) A 351 was it?
The second thing to go is your memory. I can't seem to recall the first................... |

I spoke with him about the car when we were both racing the IHRA national event held at GLD in Union Grove WI in the late 70's. It had the longest set of header collectors I ever saw. At least 48 inches long. I also met Ricky Smith for the first time at that same event. He was rather difficult to understand then. ;) |
Re: Trailer Killers!
One big problem with all these combos ,as I see it.
NHRA doesn't seem to care much for the lower class cars. Neither do the higher class guys. So , they got together and voted out > Deep Staging<. |
Re: Trailer Killers!
In the September issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines Magazine there is a great write up on a 1971 Cobra jet 429 Torino Squire 370hp at 3,583lbs 9.68pds where would this one land? h/sa

Re: Trailer Killers!
Looks like we could add the 2010 Camaro...3849 + 170!!
|
Re: Trailer Killers!
Wow! a new Camaro weight is greater than a Torino Station wagon. Great, will never see a Camaro in Stock.lol This is what you get when you get engineers from Australia do a retro design on an automobile they've never seen in their lifetime. My kids for Fathers Day rented for me a Challenger which I really loved driving plus it looks great.(sorry for taking this in the wrong direction)lol CR

(I didn't mention the Challenger because I'm a Mopar guy.) |
Re: Trailer Killers!
Yes look's like it would Myron but you would have to have deep pockets or a wife driving the Camaro at a derby after she's found out you've just left with her best friend to the Bahamas.lol Claude

Re: Trailer Killers!
Claude,
Ya know I've gotta defend me country men ! Ya can't buy one in Oz and it's built to USA specs, just like the factory Mustangs and Challengers, from the dealer they are that heavy too don't forget. Have ya seen some of the stuff that they're building in Oz at present ??? You'd be really impressed, rear wheel drive, street car rockets. Comes in a sedan and a UTE, made by Holden, aussie for GM. Catch the Top Gear episode where they test 'em both and tell me you wouldn't want one of those. Not suprisingly, Oz has turned out some really cool muscle cars in the past as well and they are still allowed to do so with all of the government restrictions that they must meet ( way worse than the US) |

[QUOTE=art leong;205456]67 Belvidere II wagon with a hemi E class car almost 4500.
Now thats a part breaker.[/QUOTE) Phil Pierce from Ohio ran one of those about 10 yrs. ago in Div. 3. in D/SA. Pretty cool race car, but REALLY heavy. |
Re: Trailer Killers!
Bernie sorry for picking on Australians and I'm sure they have a first class design center for GM but did you guys have the first generation over there, I know you could probably order one but the Holdens were kings. I was hoping that GM would have been closer in design than they actually ended with. I've own many of the first and tried a new one and have problems with it, but didn't realize how heavy they were. Sorry for venting my dissapointement.lol Claude

Re: Trailer Killers!
We should probably take another look at some of these monsters too! Lots of big-block mid 70s combos out there carrying 1970 HP ratings just because they're big-blocks. I know Paul Wong has a couple of 440 Mopar favorites that he might share. Lots of these would still be trailer killers but at the right HP factor they could be index killers too.
A few e-mails to Pat C could fix a lot of these! |
Re: Trailer Killers!
hell a few emails to pat could make anything competitive !
and he likes U/sa combos :( captain jack |

I was at the MCACN last weekend and in the "Barn Finds" section was one of the coolest cars ever. 1968 Ford Country Squire wagon with a 345 horse 428 and a stick. Supposedly a 1 of 1 car. |
Re: Trailer Killers!
I had a `76 Pontiac Grand Safari Wagon I used as a tow vehicle and would bracket race occasionally. Always thought it would be fun as a Stocker, but the 455 Pontiac 200/310 would`ve weighed in at 5440 with driver in Q/SA. No thanks!

Re: Trailer Killers!
1969 Caddy Brougham Limo (it's in the guide), 375hp 472, at 5795# with driver to run O.
