More Noob Questions
Do truck runs with cars in Stock Eliminator? Can you have a J/SA truck and run with the J/SA cars?

Re: More Noob Questions
ok... I am really doubting my choice of vehicle to run next year. I have really been contemplating a V6 Dakota since it is something I'm more familiar with versus the Neon..
I just wasn't sure if the same rules apply to a truck. |
Re: More Noob Questions
In NHRA, trucks run in the car classes. IHRA has seperate Truck and Car Classes. NHRA combined trucks into the car classes in 2004. Trucks had, and still have (to my knowledge), the same rule as FWD Stockers as far as camshaft. ".430 lift cam or OEM lift, whichever is greater".

Re: More Noob Questions
I better look at the IHRA rules since that is the closest National Race..

Re: More Noob Questions
What are the specs on the truck in question (year, motor size/HP, etc)?

Re: More Noob Questions
I was looking at a 1987 Dodge Dakota V6/Auto Long Wheelbase..
The nice thing is that many of the same tricks I used on my BB Aspen would apply. I was figuring, 4000 converter, 5.13 gear, Calvert bars, Use V8 Headers and lob off the one pipe ( since the V6 is a 318 with the bad cylinders taken off). 90/10 front shocks, 50/50 in the rear. Then into the motor... |
Re: More Noob Questions
I don`t know how much differance there is between a 87 & 95 Dakota, but Bruce Flodin here in Div.6 has been running a mid 90`s Dakota for years, first as a C&D/TSA with a 318, and several years ago he swiitched to a V6 for P&Q/SA. He briefly held the record in P/SA at 12.67, set at Mission this past May.

Re: More Noob Questions
12's with a V6 WOW... that is some great power

Re: More Noob Questions
They're not really "cheater" cams anymore. There's no duration or LSA rule in Stock anymore. You'd need to call Comp, or maybe Bullet.

Re: More Noob Questions
There is a huge difference in Dakota engines from '87 to the 1992 and later versions.....up til '91 they used a TBI fuel injection system with a carburated style wet intake and the '92 and later version have the newer "beer barrel" style SMPI fuel injection system....I have worked on both and the '92 - '96 is a decent package....the '95 & '96 have a higher lift cam spec....1st Gen Dakota body style stopped in 1990....2nd went from 1991 to 1996 so you could build a magum motored (V6 or V8) using this body, claim it as a '95 or '96 for the bigger cam and either a 3.9,5.2 or 5.9 engine.......

Re: More Noob Questions
Great info...
Is there anyone that makes a "cheater" cam for the first gen Dakota. I was thinking about the carburated 1987 engine.. it takes out the computer cost of the later engine.. |
Re: More Noob Questions
Cheater cam? I haven't heard that term in about 20 years! How old are you anyway? Comp Cams makes some very nice Stocker cams for all those motor combos. Jim

Re: More Noob Questions

Re: More Noob Questions
I was looking through my old late 70's Direct Connection book and they used 3/4 race cam and Cheater Cam..
Too bad the specs they give back in the 70's wouldn't do you any good these days.. |
Re: More Noob Questions
I'm 57,,and when I here the term 3/4 race cam,,I always ask the guy, "What does that mean?? 12 lobes are for racing and the other 4 are stock??"
Jason,,call Bullet Cams and tell them what you want to do and give them the info they ask you for. Danny Durham |

Being a member of this forum sure pays off, now I know why my stocker lays down at 1000 ft. I'm ordering my full race cam first thing in the morning! |
