I'm so confused
I must be missing something here....looking at qualifying for Stock at Indy. Also looking at eliminations...(on DRC) As far as qualifying goes....per there final order #129 is Dan Fletcher. Under the heading " Not Qualified". But looking thru the round wins. he is in the second round and going to 3rd. So did someone not make it thru teardown? or get DQ'd ? or??
Sorry if it obvious but I don't see it |
Re: I'm so confused
Larry Hill broke a motor and Drooze car ignition problems hence the reason for the one and two alternates getting in the show. Gary

Thanks for clearing that up!!:D

Re: I'm so confused
Two broken racers in stock allow two alternates in. I see on the SS ladder two Wescott's, that I thought had also broken and gone home, but still on the ladder. Either they fixed both cars and returned, or as I believed, once qualified you stay on the ladder.
I may be mistaken, because Indy runs a full field, but I always thought, unless Div Director allows, you are on the ladder after making a qualifying run. Enlighten me please |
Re: I'm so confused
Hey Randall,
Hope all is well with you folks up there. I think they substitute an alternate at the time of the pairings for the first round if anyone is a no show. |
Re: I'm so confused
3 alternates got in the first round of stock. In the second round 2 of the alternates flecher, and sweasy raced each other. This is the first Indy in history that at least one stocker did not get DQed!!!

Re: I'm so confused
"they didnt want to rub salt in the wounds of all the non DP and CJ racers whats a little cheatin if there so bogus"
NHRA wasted their time tearing down the DP/CJ cars. I agree with bubski, it's not that they were going to find anything illegal about those cars, it's that the horsepower rating for the combos are not even close! I am sure there are plenty of other cars they should have been looking at. And here's something to think about, why was the #1 qualifier not torn down? No disrespect to Mr. Blossom, he found a unique and killer combo and made the best of it. Everybody knew that combo was going to be fast and NHRA obviously knew it too. Instead they tear down DP/CJ cars that everybody knew was going to be fast, and for what? To find that the specs are dead on and they have been caught with their pants down! Bill Lent O/SA 3158 |
Re: I'm so confused
Blossom tore the pt cruiser down at the cordova points meet in august while setting the record. No need to look at it again.

At Vegas , I was picked for teardown as the no. 1 qualifier. When I pointed this out to Bruce, he went to Danny with this fact. Danny's response was "tear him down anyway". I guess he figured it would pass . He does the no. 1 car , it passes ...Everybody looks good. Bottom line though, is : There's no rhyme or reason or precedent to any of this stuff. They make it up as they go along. |
Re: I'm so confused
Mister Blossom is very lucky: Jon Irving div. 7 allstar tore down@ the allstar race, moter sealed. Six days later at Fallon Nv. set N/SA record,(west coast rule book) moter still sealed from allstars, comp. dir.wants too see other side of the moter. two tear downs in six days.

Years ago there were times you tore down after class, then after the eliminator. That stopped when they threw both winner and runnerup out. |

Re: I'm so confused
The last person to tear down after winning a race that I remember was Don Little at the 99 Winternationals. He was down at the end working away when Bernstien crashed and had the motor tumble down the track as I remember.
