Whew ! ! I can't stand it - the drive here just killed me - a whopping 76 miles .Came in Gate Two and was greeted by lines as we can't get in until 3pm - just like the Army - hurry up and wait .Still better than being at work .

Those of you coming in -- things on the way here were business as usual in New Jersey - traffic and plenty of it .Good news ? OK - Got fuel on Route 18 South at Raceway Gas -- Diesel $2.67 cash or credit and regular was $2.33 -- guess i'm just used to high Pennsylvanis taxes .

Weather - overcast at this moment but 76 degrees with 37% humidity - barometer @29.67 and a final DA of 1977' .Weekend looks terrific with Sunday having a chance of showers and t-storms .

I guess they didn't tell the gatekeepers when to open cause they still haven't started .

One last word - I still have plenty of Free carload passes provided by PC Richard Appliance Stores - if you run into Gary Richard this weekend be sure to say thanks for his support .Another last thing -- this weekend i'm going to try something new - two "Live from " threads - here and "Almost Live from Epping" -- I'll try anything once with the help of a few friends ...........

I find it interesting that for the last few days I have been hearing radio ads for next weeks Diesel Truck event at Englishtown and there are also some ads on TV for this event.
There has been ZERO advertising for the Lucas race that starts tomorrow.......The best Sportsman cars NHRA has to offer and E-Town does not advertise the race because they know no one will come if they have to pay.....

Obviously they put their advertising dollars where it does them the most good.....and they know from all the past events there will be no spectators. The free tickets is a good idea that has been used at other races.

Sportsman racing is only for those that do it for the most part......

Rich -- OK - come on over - i'll give you a couple of tickets to see the best in Sportsman racing ........................And you can personally thank Gary Richard ! !

Re: Live from Englishtown - NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series

C'mon Jack.....I am not much of a spectator....I thought you knew that by now....

I will be bracket racing at Island......It is their 50th Anniversary race and we will be racing for a Wally as well as an increased payout.....

I will have made probably 3 runs while you are sitting around talking about things like what took place last week at Indy......and maybe got one run down the track...

Matt S. had tickets and gave some to his neighbors.....

You can explain to the newbies about "stop and go racing" (yea I did lots of that too) and also about how you can get there first but lose.......

Don't even try to explain HP factors...LOL!!!

Hi Jack. I made it from Mass. in about 4 and 1/2 hrs. Going through NYC wasn't bad at all. I am pitted next to Vic Guillmino. Billy Nees is coming down tomorrow. Doug Blackley (also from Mass.) is across the way from me. I also said hi to Dave Ley, Ed Fernandez, and Ken Kopecky. See you tomorrow. - Bob

Jack Matyas 09-09-2010 08:56 PM

Re: Live from Englishtown - NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series

Bob -- I'm surprised that you and Blackley came from Mass and skipped the Epping race ........but then that's why Division One is number 1 .

Does anyone else have a problem with not being able to view the attached pictures? Both at work and at home I am not able to see these thumbs? Any help would be appreciated.

Can't see Jack's, and some of Kenny's when he posts but all of Tom S. beautiful work was viewable. I'm guessing it is because we have the old Flash Player installed here on these machines, some of my suppliers sites don't display correctly either.

Talk about a beautiful morning -- this is it ! ! ! Sunny w/ blue skies and a slight breeze -- 68 degrees w/ 49 % humidity and burning off and a barometer of 29.73 gives a final DA of just over 1400 ' -- not bad -- not bad at all .

Tech is open and my "ride" is due here any moment ( towing only - no starting of engines until 10am today ) .

Attention in the pits -- anyone that Billy Leber owes money to now is the time to collect - after a Class Win at Indy and going a few rounds Billy came into a nice windfall - that's right moolah -- as in cash -- longtime GF Cheryl signed him up for a bunch of DRAW tickets and just when things were looking bleak after losing the nice DRAW folks came around to let him know he won the 50/50 deal for big money -- 3500 clams was his end - so when they come around the next time to sell you some don't be bashful -- buy a bunch as the next winner could be you .

Lastly - pictured below is Ken Meile - its a speed secret -- changing brake pads .

Mike Brogniez 09-10-2010 09:43 AM

Re: Live from Englishtown - NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series

Ken's speed secret is out....better traction and less drag from the extra weight of his frictionless rear pads.......

A great day for you all to enjoy and build great memories.

Thanks for sharing with us Jack.

Have a safe race

Here's a news flash - Director Lang in looking at the weather for Sunday ( and at this moment its not looking too terrific ) has decided to make a decision at 5pm today about tomorrows racing - if it looks bad for Sunday we will go right into eliminations first thing tomorrow -- stay tuned .

SuperStreet and Stock to the lanes in 10 minutes ..................

Same here, but I just updated my Flash player a couple days ago, no help, and I doubt the site is using Flash to display them anyway. The problem with the disappearing pictures started for me a couple weeks ago, about the same time as some of the posts started coming up out of order.

Jack,
Just a quick note to Thank You and Mr. Richards for posting this on classracer and providing the tickets from his stores. We will be rooting you guys on.
My son and I have given out about three hundred car load tickets at the New York Automotive and Diesel Institute here in Jamaica Queens were we both work to our students. I'm sure this will spark more interest in the Sport and have the Students experience what Legal racing is like. We will see after attending this event if it will wet their fascination for performance. We are hoping to put together a car club at the school the RPM's. Race, Performance Maintenance and safety.
Best of Luck to all
Mike Natoli

Got to hand it to Mr. Fezell....he runs that thing balls out everywhere he goes. If everyone did that the AHFS might (emphasis on "might") actually have a chance to function properly.

Kreeber's car is so cool. Someone tell John Shaul if he ever brings it out west I'd be happy to drool...errr...drive it for him.

Micheal,

The posts jumping out of order surprised me too. At first I thought it was an undocumented feature I accidentally accessed like in Microsoft Windows crashing...

248H Stock?

Do you think he lifted in order not to have to run a parachute? Wow....It's unreal how these cars don't make the huge wheel stands like those 67 A/S Camaros....Does anyone of these cars lift the front wheels past the 60 ft. Clocks yet? What's their best 60ft ?

SuperStock was just out for their first pass - most were like the stockers - 4 to 8 slow. Joe Garbarine set the first leg of the GT/FA record at 9.60 .

And we have a guest in the house - Evan Smith formerly of New Jersey came up from Florida to visit with his friends to catch up with the racing action here in D1 - welcome back Evan .

I think the out of order post problem is something that Ken is working on.

Good luck to all, I am headed to Epping at 5 tonight.

Re: Live from Englishtown - NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series

Hey everyone, well its been a long day and as you can see jack has not posted any updates for a while. Sad to say but Jack broke today, and it does not look good. I'm sure he will be on with more details but he looks to be done for the weekend.

Today was not as fast as I thought it would be. The air was pretty good about 2100 feet, with low humidity. Some guys ran pretty well, but most were slower then they thought they should be, as was I.

Tomorrow there is no qualifying, we go straight into eliminations for all classes. The will start with the super classes and then the alcohol and comp qualifying, then us. Rain is foretasted for sunday, so there are trying to get it all done for tomorrow.

I heard that it showed on 1320.com today that Gary Richard ran 9 something in his new B/SA Mustang. Any truth to the rumor?

Hi Kids - well I may be down but not out by any means - lost an engine today on my second pass and for a few hours it was a bitter pill to swollow but i'm back to feeling like myself and go on with things .Larry, i know you're reading this -- only someone like you knows the the pain i felt this afternoon . When an incident like this occurs you just have to suck it up and move onward . Yep , I'm in the market for a LS1 engine - lets hear from anyone who has one for sale .

First round tomorrow will go on without me in my car but that will give me more time for reporting - my new love after driving ....'till then .

S/S record - GT/FA - Joe Garbarine - 9.58
Stock record AA/S - Don Fizell -9.37

Does anyone know if the schedule has changed back for today where the late comers would get a time shot or are they going with No Time Shots for anybody & right into Eliminations.

They had Stock going out after the Alcohol Cars for First Rd., is that hold true or are we getting a time run this morning ?????

Thx

Good morning - As I woke up this morning ( and on the right side of the grass thank you ) it occured to me that things could be a lot worse so i'll just thank my lucky stars that i'm here on this drop dead beautiful Saturday to witness some of the greatest Sportsman racing on the Planet - ever .Even though its only 61 degrees out it feels nice - Sunny and blue skies and get this - dialing today will be a whole new program -- barameter is up to 29.88 and the humidity at 57% and dropping like a rock -- the final DA is the best of the weekend so far - 984 ' .

One of the reasons I was up early this morning is I kept hearing banging sounds - so I had to get up and look - you wouldn't believe it but at just after 6am the Raceway Park workers were just outside my window taking down the stands - not sure why but they're coming down .

Because of the schedule change the ladder won't be out for a few hours ( late arrivals will more than likely be put on the bottom with no time trial or Q-shot ) -- when it does I'll give you the latest skinny on the happenings .Later ..........................Oh -- I forgot - threw in a few pics of " Lake Englishtown " -- pretty in the morning ..........................

And to my friend Ed -- Yes , I'll drive someones spare Drag-Pak E/SA ...............I'm starting to feel like that ESPN guy - you know the one -- Mike Dunn - he's always looking for a ride ! !

10:30 update - As of this minute Raceway Park has no electric power what-so-ever .The local power company is working on the problem and says it will have us back online in a half-hour or so ..............the problem is here on site .
