tpoh815 05-20-2007 09:09 AM

i guess will see if hp changes come next week. i cant begrudge someone who chases a record. hey you reap what you sew! good one sal, big 10-4

snowman 05-20-2007 09:31 AM

I was told he was tore down after 1st rd and did not pass due to 1cc

Larry Sullivan 05-20-2007 11:59 AM

Snowman is correct - he had long-reach plugs in it and came up short on the CC measurement, so the Pontiac 400 guys got a reprieve.

- Larry

Joe Schweigert 05-20-2007 01:12 PM

What does the Pontiac have to do with it ? I miss something

stefan callender 05-20-2007 01:32 PM

yes im confused, Im sure this post was about Dave Layer going 1.40 plus under and getting the combo hit. Is that what youre talking about???

Larry Sullivan 05-20-2007 01:41 PM

Oops, I thought it was about Tony Goodman going 1.41 under with a '77 Firebird/400 CI Pontiac in H/SA. Goodman failed Tech. Layer passed tech in Super Stock, so bend over and get your incentive award.

- Larry

stefan callender 05-20-2007 01:44 PM

Thanks for clearing that up Larry, I dont know why Dave would have done something like that I thought he was trying to save the combination and not get it hit. Not too smart...

joe176 05-20-2007 11:07 PM

Definately not smart when your customers that run the same combo are trying to be careful and your cylinder head specialist is getting it hit. You end up having pissed off customers from coast to coast. As I am self employed I would not want to do this to my customers. Joe Franco SS176

tim worner 05-21-2007 09:51 AM

I didn't mind.

tim w

joe176 05-21-2007 10:18 AM

Why would you?

Super Sport 05-21-2007 10:39 AM

Maybe it was all about taking the record away from a certain S/S individual and putting it where he could never touch it again. Possibly a bit of a conspiracy going on among players in the class. One thing for sure, paybacks are hell.

Inquiring minds want to know...will this only effect the S/S but not the GT horsepower?

Bryan Worner 05-21-2007 01:11 PM

It should effect the horsepower in both GT and SS since his combo can be run in both in his car. At least that is the way I understand this AHFS!

bcss 05-21-2007 01:42 PM

Come on guys, everyone knows this combo is soft.

T Janes 05-21-2007 03:57 PM

It should not effect both SS and GT. The combo was set by a car running in SS/KA not a GT class

5919 SSKA 05-21-2007 04:21 PM

1985 Camaro Z28 305ci can run in SS/KA or GT/IA as that is it's weight break.

For my sake, I just hope he had in the fuel injected 305ci as I'm about to load up and head to BIR for the Divisional Event and don't feel like adding weight in 2 days. I run a Q-jet on mine.

See ya in Staging!

Don Whitmore 05-21-2007 04:35 PM

5919 SSKA

Layer had the 305 ci 215 hp fuelly motor in...

fred johnston 05-23-2007 08:54 AM

I'm confused. Now this combo can simply change from SS to GT and not get an HP increase. Go figure.

stefan callender 05-23-2007 09:47 AM

WELL NOT EVERYONE WITH THIS COMBINATION RUNS IT IN SS, SOME ALSO RUN IT IN GT

fred johnston 05-23-2007 10:36 AM

if this combo runs fast in SS, then it'll run fast in GT, as we've all seen on the qualifying sheets. Give HP in SS and GT is only appropriate.

5919 SSKA 05-23-2007 10:40 AM

The combo got 8Hp in SS...GT stays the same.

As a result of a ?1.424 run in SS/KA during qualifying at the Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in Norwalk, Ohio, the Super Stock horsepower factor on the 1985 Chevy 305-205 OEM horsepower and the Pontiac 305-210 OEM horsepower automatic transmission models has been changed

See ya in Staging!

T Janes 05-23-2007 10:59 AM

NHRA did it right, NHRA rule book page 65 Section 6A Super Stock. NHRA rule book page 74 Section 6B Super Stock/GT. Two sections within an eliminator.

stefan callender 05-23-2007 11:07 AM

COME ON FRED WE'RE JUST PLAYING BY THE RULES....

COME ON FRED WE'RE JUST PLAYING BY THE RULES....

Dick Butler 05-23-2007 11:09 AM

Tony, Yes they did it right but......? isnt it getting a little TOO specific?

Dick Butler 3529

stefan callender 05-23-2007 11:12 AM

COME ON DICK, WHEN YOURE KIDS WERE RUNNING A 305 YOU WERENT COMPLAINING IT WAS SOFT...

fred johnston 05-23-2007 11:33 AM

Hopefully, this inaccurate GT rating will be taken care of at the next couple of races. Come on Mr. Layer you can do it and so can a number of others. Soft combo it is.

stefan callender 05-23-2007 11:57 AM

IS THERE ONE IN YOUR DIVISION THAT YOU HAVE TO RUN AGAINST???

fred johnston 05-23-2007 01:38 PM

Sure. Plus who likes people that strut around acting like are really doing something by running fast with a soft combo that is underfactored by about 20HP. The 305 combo, shelby combo, pontiac combo, you can build them and a few other combos to run fast with your eyes closed. If you're running fast with a combo that is factored correctly...now that's a whole different story and most racers appreciate that.

stefan callender 05-23-2007 02:31 PM

THEN GET OFF YOUR WALLET AND BUILD ONE AND STOP COMPLAINING. WHY WOULD YOU BUILD A COMBO THAT IS NOT RATED WELL??? TO ME THATS STUPID, BUILD THE SOFTEST THING YOU CAN, IT ALL COSTS THE SAME. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU CAN RUN GT IN ANY BODY STYLE.

Dave Layer 05-23-2007 02:38 PM

Mr Johnson
I know a lot of S/Stk people, but not all. I'm sorry but I don't recoginize your name. Just to satisfy my curiosity what class and/or combo do you run?

Dave Layer

fred johnston 05-23-2007 02:56 PM

Stefan my man, lay off the cap button. Mr. Layer, just do a quick search, you'll find my name, I run several different classes.

The initial point is that if a combo is hit with HP in SS, then this same exact combo should be hit with HP in GT. Second point is, it's not that impressive when you run fast with an under rated combo. Take, and I'll use some older motors here, the 350/300, 350/255 or, 350/624 or even the 400 chevrolet..these motors have been factored several times. When someone with one of these combos runs 1.15-1.20 under....that's impressive. Doing it with the 305 or say the 350 fuel injected deal that's about 278 HP right now...that's not really impressive.

stefan callender 05-23-2007 03:04 PM

you still havent answered the question, what combo do you run, what division and what kind of car>??

stockracer 05-23-2007 03:13 PM

I tried to search the above name...No results at autoimagery.com...If youve raced at a national event in the last 5 years you will have a pic on there...Maybe there is a different way to spell your name...It may not impress you, but that probably wasnt his intention...

Jim Kaekel 05-23-2007 03:16 PM

Guys- It's pretty simple to find out if somebody really has a class car nowadays. Simply go to the wonderful dragracecentral web site and type their name into the search engine. Of course, that's assuming that they are posting under their real name.

Jack Pot!

Oh I race, and have probably won more races than you guys. The point of this conversation is under rated engines and why doesn't the factor change when a combo can run GT or SS. More interested in the reasoning on the last point.
