Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
Nitro 9..........Glidden, Turnage, Holbrook, and Donnie Moore have all piloted that car. That's alot of history for one car. The last time I saw it, it still had "Instant Action" on the side.

Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
Calvert gets my vote too. He is also one of the nicest guys I have ever had an opportunity to talk to as well!

Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
Mikes 70 Mustang SS/J ... nice car, won many awards
|
Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?

Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
Red Le Blanc should be in the running. Seems he's held a record or two. You should compile a list, narrow it down to 10 cars/drivers then do a poll.
|
Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
I would add these to the list:
Jerry Dick's '68 CJ Calvert's '68 CJ Everett Hill's FoMoGo '64 Mark Tallent/Don Keen '64 Ray Scardelli '64 Conv. Poole/Elliot '69 Coupe Kip Martin '64 |

Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
Seeing that we're Canadian eh, I would say Barrie Poole and Sandy Elliott's Cobra Jet Mustangs.
Venice and Dave, pipe in here any time now..... Johnny U. you were still in diapers then.... Mike |

Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
It would be hard to beat our old Saleen mustang 9.38 @ 147 (in 1994) at 2950 pounds and still using the clutch on all shifts. No telling how fast one would go today with a clutchless.. Oner of those cars in GT/A should go 860's. With the new parts approved it should have a longer fuse... haha

Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
..considering, there's a certain GT/A car from TN, that was the first in the 8s, I'd have to vote for him...:D

Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
Al Joniec - 1968 Mustang wins first time out for the 428CJ's at Pomona 1968.

Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
you also have to throw in Jeff Colvert, I think he was the first 9sec SS/G car
Let's not forget about the elder Leblanc, this car has set many, many records!!!! |
Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
As I tend to judge cars by there performance not how good the drivers are or there winning records I'll throw my vote for Shawn LeBlancs' awsom 8.98 pass GT/A ride.
I also like Jeff Veldes red 68 and John Turleys SS/F 69 back in the late 70's. There is another Bad ***** 69 around but like everyone else I can't remember who it is. Jeff Colvert SS/G 4456 |
Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
Barrie Poole......John Elliot........Cool paint.....good drivers ..... 4 speed Cobra jets....and they won some races back in the old days in my area........
|
Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
Jim Morgan, I believe Blair Patrick has his car now
|
Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
Don't forget some of the early Mustangs that came out of the Bob Tasca Ford stables on the east coast---E. Providence, R.I..... WJ

Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
Gene Turnage Nitro 9 Mustang.
|
Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
Red Leblanc! I grew up watching him run his stick car at the divisionals. I'll never forget that beautiful Red Stang.
|
Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
This is most likely the worst possible picture of the car, but it's an old "Instant Aciton" car. This car could be a 100 point show car while making bottom 9 passes.

Is the best car the most successful in terms of wins or do we vote for the car with the longest history? |
Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
In my way of thinking the best has always been the quickest and fastest. The driver makes it successful as far as win/ loss record.

Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
MIKE,
What on earth would make you think I know anything about Mustangs in SS? I am hardly able to pick one, they were all neat to me. The first mustang that ever made an impression on me was in 1965 or 1966 a local yokel who drove a dump truck bought one, I was 5 or 6 years old, I remember it was white and I think had a pony interior, this fella Dave ( I think) tore up and down Cedar Springs Rd.(Dick you know where that road is?) all night, actually all summer. My parents were livid and I was hooked, later on in grade 3 I saw a Car Craft magazine it had a 1969 Funny Car on the cover ( Mickey Thompsons Mustang?). The slicks, the flames, the chute, I gotta drive one of those I thought. I begged the teacher (library every thursday) to let me take that book out instead of what we were supposed to sign out, my persistance paid off. I got that magazine and read it until the pages were worn out, remember the Bird automotive T bucket adds? Anyhow all those mustangs were cool and they all contributed to my sickness......... LMAO, |

Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
Richard Allen just went 9.38 @ 141+ yesterday. Same car he ran back in the '70's.....................his car may have the best chassis of all the 68-70's.

Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
Ye old coffee hound,
I thought you might comment on some Buicks or Edsels but thanks for the outpouring of affection FOR THE BLUE OVAL Dave, I didn't think he was going to get all gushy on us. I had to get my kleenex box out. Mike |
Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
Ken McKellen's SS/G 428 notchback. He had a great big bag of purple bubble gum he'd share with us.

Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
gosh people this is like a election, there is so many great mustangs from the days, Velde's SS/F, Rich Allen's car, Denysenko's, Calverts, Colvert's ect, ect, ect.
Honestly I myself could not pick a all time favorite cause they are all great to me. |
Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
Ken McLellan's SS/G Cobrastang. I believe he was the record holder from 1969 until he quit racing and I bought his car in 1973. He did not believe in a line lock used a stick to hold the brake pedal. Always won class and won the World Finals in 1971. Someday I will restore it as raced by Ken.

Re: Best Mustang Super Stock-All Time?
How about Brian Cour's SS/F '68 1/2 and Marcel Cloutier's SS/GA 68 1/2?
