IHRA crate motor question about intakes....

I was reading the IHRA rulebook and under intakes it states that any OEM or aftermarket intake that clears the stock unaltered hood is allowed.

The specs for the 514 Ford CM list a casting number M9424 -H429(Victor Intake for a dominator carb)

So which is allowed ?
Any intake, or the one listed in the spec sheet ?

If it clears your hood with the carb (850 CFM for big blocks) using a carb adapter then its OK. The spacer/adapter cannot be over 1 inch thick.

Thanks !
Would you happen to know if the 514 Ford crate engine is for Top Stock only, or can it be used in the regular crate motor classes ?

I havent kept up with the list of approved crate engines for awhile. Its been about 10 years since I was working for them. I believe if you can get on the IHRA site they have a list of approved engines and their current HP ratings....Sorry. Maybe there is an IHRA racer or tech guy like Danny Waters Sr. or Jim Woods reading this that might know? Im sure if you email Danny from one of his postings he will reply right away.

Alan, all the IHRA Tech info you would need should be on there.

514 /600 @ 525 is an approved crate motor class engine. We will not be running Top Stock as a indexed class next year. (unless something has changed that i don't know about )

I got word today that next year Top stock is out.. will not have a class or index. I wouldn't build anything for Top Stock rules. Could end up being a waste of time and money.

Danny, are EFI allowed in crate motor, like a 1991 Ford Mustang with the Ford 340HP/E cam crate motor with EFI?

Thanks, Tom Sr.

Yea, what Terry said.
A particular crate engine first has to be "approved" and put on the accepted list by IHRA to be legal for CM. Just because a factory has a combo available doesn't make it legal. There are versions coming out every year so keeping track of specs would be a nightmare. The factory normally has to provide the specs. For simplicity, it's been 750/850 carbs and any unmodified, commonly available over-the-counter intake that fits under the OEM hood. (Measure your 1" spacers. Some are a bit more than the 1" advertised.)

1 inch spacer includes the gaskets also.

Top Stock was just a hiding place for some A/SA cars that were slow anyway.

Saw one drop out and re enter to avoid a headsup once.

The spacer/adapter is measured by itself. Gaskets NOT included. 1 inch max. (1.000).

Sure your not mixing it up with head gaskets/deck height?

Gee, for a box/.5 tree racer, you sure are interested in CM Stock.........................again?:p

Might be confused with the engine Masters rules. The spacer IS measured with gaskets at EMC.

Guys I'm not stupid. My car got torn down as much as anybody the few years I was in stock.
Carb spacer and gaskets.

Myron,

I think you hit a nerve , he must really be bored after winning everything at the Nitro Jam .... When do you think he will make it happen ? want to take bets ........ Come on in Chip, you know you really miss it .... Time will tell ....

lol
I'm sure he misses it. But running 2 cars/classes isn't easy physically, mentally and financially. But you never know!

As for the spacer/gasket measurement. I don't recall when they last measured mine, but it has been! Some people did get busted for 1.050" spacers (approx. guess) many years ago. But it would be an unreasonable rule. Some 1" spaces are already a bit more than 1". Including the gasket would probably make all 1" spacers on the market illegal unless milled!
