Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
It sounds like IHRA is on the way out?
|
Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
Wow
I didn't see that coming In the last IHRA mag Arron made it seem in his The Last Word like everything was great Is this just a rumor? |
Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
Rockingham is news to me!

Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
After losing Va and Rockingham and Top Fuel, what's left to call a sanctioning organization?RIP IHRA.
The beginning of the end was when some bright bulb had the Iron Man turned into some garish under nourished freak. |
Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
I hate to see this happen, as it seems to be a harbinger of the decline of IHRA.
On the other hand, if this is the case, I would certainly like to see the new Division 2 director jump on this. It may be bad that it is happening, if it is true, but something good should come of it if at all possible. |

Where is "DANDY" Don Meredith to sing the Willie Nelson classic "THE PARTY IS OVER" ?
Turn out the lights the party's over and all good things must end........... :-( P.T. Barnum needs to sell IHRA and go back to the CIRCUS BUSINESS ! |

I hate to think what would happen next. Nothing worse than being the only show in town. I really feel sorry to those who were left holding the bag when IHRA was sold to a little man who probably dresses in big shoes, with polka dot pants, orange hair and a big red nose. I think Compton dresses like that when he's all alone at home.Less the plastic red nose. If ya know what I mean. |

Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
I would be one miserable SOB if I had to only race LODRS events, they are the most drawn out events ever. The reason everyone buys motorhomes is to sleep 3-4 hrs between rounds...atleast the racers are great to hang out with.

Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
You guys are jumpin the gun here. Who do you think is responsible for these press releases. Usually somebody trying to create turmoil. I'm pretty sure Rock,VMP,Martin,West Palm, Baton Rouge,MIR are already under contract for 2011. You ever heard of the term"SILLY SEASON".

Then I'm good with that. By all means, if he's doing something for us, let us in on it. Division 2 racers would, for the most part, be completely stunned to see a division director doing anything at all for us, we haven't seen anything like that in years. Most everyone I talked to did not get much of a positive first impression of our new director. I saw him briefly, and he did not appear to be very interested in the sportsman racers. I've talked to a couple of dozen other people who were at Reynolds, and all but one said the same thing. If my first impression of him was wrong, and we see some real positive results from him, I'll be the first to publicly state my change in opinion and the fact that my original impression was wrong, and I hope it was. |
Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
I also heard they were going back to San Antonio too.
I think the big surprise this week was Kenny Knowling stepping down from ADRL and they have no sponsor for 2011. When will the Shiek get tired of this racing thing and pick up golf, fishing, mountian climbing our whatever his next new hobby will be? |
Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
Alan,
You will be surprised the amount of back door meetings these type of people go through before we even hear a RUMOR. This new division director has got to be given a chance. The weekend you met him was probably his first event, don't you think he was a bit overwhelmed. Let the man get comfortable and do his job. Chip Johnson SST2011 |

I never said he should be fired, I said my first impression of him was not good at all considering he's supposed to be something of a whiz at sales and promotion as well as a decent manager. If I was the only person who thought that, I'd keep my mouth shut and figure I was wrong. But a couple of dozen people, give or take, said exactly the same thing, so it wasn't JUST me. I'm perfectly willing to see what he does from here, and I've already said I'm quite prepared to change my opinion and say so publicly. If he does a good job and we see real improvements, I'll be the first guy to stand up and give him credit publicly, and I'll be the first to back him up. |
Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
Alan,
I agree. Maybe I should'nt have used the word overwhelmed. Maybe Bombarded, bushwacked, ?????. He was probably jumped on the minute he walked on the grounds. Chip JOhnson SST2011 |

The Rockingham folks were at Pomona. They will be back.

Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
Doesn't this same conversation happen every year? IHRA lost a couple of tracks and now they are going under? Don't tracks come and go all the time? It's whatever sanctioning body tells them what they want to hear. You guys put way too much thought into rumors. What about Memphis, and Gateway? Is NHRA doomed now?
|
Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?

Big difference between Memphis and Gateway closing, and VMP and Rockingham possibly changing sanctioning bodies. That being said, I'm not at all sure that those two tracks switching sanctioning bodies is a death knell for IHRA, I hope it is not. |
Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
Don't forget that New England Dragway switched .
|
Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
Sorry,
I think both VMP & Rockingham will be part of Div 2 NHRA in 2011 ... I hope to hear that IHRA has picked up some tracks here soon .... Like Dave said they also lost Epping, time will tell but we need a another place to race ... It's not good to have everything in one place , competition is healthy ... |
Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
Dave,
VMP will be part of D1 if they change. The points race there 2 years ago was a D1 race. I doubt that it would be switched to D2, but stranger things have happened. I always thought that the reason they went to IHRA this last time was after Scott Kalita(sp)died there was major expensive shut down improvements required in order to keep a National event. VMP did those improvements had 1 more National and then NHRA pulled their event. They then switched to IHRA. Someone correct me if I am wrong on this. |
Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
Dave,
I think you have your tracks mixed up between Englishtown & VMP.. Yes, and I heard Div 2 ... We will see what happens.... |
Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
Actually talked to Mr. Earwood himself recently. He has had sitdowns with NHRA several times recently. And yes he is taking a lighter sanctioned schedule for 2011
|
Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
What also has to be understood is that running under the NHRA banner costs a track much more (insurance is higher even on divisionals.). Also that NHRA is not centered in North Carolina as much as the IHRA crowd. There are a lot of 'x' factors in the equation which I think is why Mr. Earwood has decided to give IHRA at least one more year to straighten out the kinks that we all know exist. After that, the ball is in the air.

Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
It seems that some tracks are switching sanctioning bodies all the time. How many times has VA switched ? Rockingham ?
After reading National Dragster and DRM for several years, I recall the switching scenario happened quite often. This is nothing new. Ron Ortiz U/SA ahra, nhra, ihra, adrl, independant associations, and now unleached |

I'm glad I don't rely on classracer.com for my information on current drag racing and updates,...Christ,. I'd quit racing stock . Bart

Re: Rockingham and VMP to nhra?
I was thinking that VMP was in D2 from when it was built until they switched the first time. After that they were D1 until they switched again this last time.
