The Nov Vegas Points Meet
The Vegas Points meet has some issues and that is just about everyone racing, working , and watching there did not like the fact that the races lasted well into the night . I say it is time for that meet to be a Four day meet . Does anyone else have this opinion ?:)

Re: The Nov Vegas Points Meet
Hi Don
Run stock , super stock and comp on Thursday and Friday. They can run the rest on Saturday and Sunday until when ever ( and yes we will leave the starting line with rubber on it and no oil all over the track) Rick Paton |
Re: The Nov Vegas Points Meet
Don,
I agree. Or don't have the event between the 2 nationals, so there are not over 800 cars. |
Re: The Nov Vegas Points Meet
Brett: The Points meet could be a lot of fun for everyone just by starting on Thursday like it was once . if I recall the races were done by 5 o'clock every day . very little night racing and the workers did not have to work from 7am until 11pm like what happened in the last race . racing at 11 at night is not good especially when the track gets cold then no one wins if a race car crashes ,

Re: The Nov Vegas Points Meet
real simple, run time trails on Thurs and Fri, go into rd 1 on Sat morning, run 3 rds at least on Sat and go into Sunday.
Now, looking at the "other" side of the street, will it happen, cause now this cuts out the test and tune for the track to generate income on Thurs. I know some of you dont look at this part of the deal, but it is what it is. I think the bigger problem is Don is getting older and room was calling him at 9pm to go lay on the pillow, lol. |

Re: The Nov Vegas Points Meet
why dont we get rid of the dog and pony show. Aka the nitro harleys. although they dont take much time but why even have them there. The top sportsman and top dragster burn out contests seem to take a long time also. really who needs a burnout that big. this is just my, and a few others observations. (knowbody needs to take it personal)

Re: The Nov Vegas Points Meet
I've mentioned this in a previous post, why not open an earlier turn-off gate to get cars off the track quicker. Vegas probably has the longest shut down area and if cars were off the track quicker you would get more pairs per hour.

Re: The Nov Vegas Points Meet
I say we keep it at 3 days (I don't really want three 4 day races in a row) but reduce it to just 2 qualifying runs. Running this event the week after the national event does not require that we get 3 shots to dial the cars. Get rid of one round of qualifying for everyone and instead run first round when you would be running that final qualifying run and you would solve the late night run problems.
In 2011 we have Tucson divisional one weekend, Phoenix Nat'l the next, a week off then Vegas Nat'l, Vegas Div'l then Pomona. With 5 races in 6 weeks, do you really want to stretch one of these races out to an extra day? I think this falls under the "careful what you wish for" category... |
Re: The Nov Vegas Points Meet
They did make it a four day race back in 2006:
http://dragracecentral.com/DRCStory....r2006#indextop I remember talking to Chris Blair and he said it cost $10,000 a day to pay the staff and crew. I doubt you'll see a four day race unless NHRA lowers the sanctioning fee or the track gets some other kind of incentive. In 2005 they tried starting at 7AM. I don't think that went over too well. I think maybe there should be some kind of grade point requirement to get in. Like maybe you have to go to 3 or 4 divisionals earlier that year to get in. I agree something needs to be done. I don't mind running at 1AM. The track probably has the best lighting system of any out there, but I don't think it's right the crew has to work 18 hours a day. -Toby |

Re: The Nov Vegas Points Meet
Going to only 2 qualifying runs would definitely help on Saturday, but it would still be a late night on Friday. I think it took until almost midnight to get 2 runs in for each class on Friday this year.

Re: The Nov Vegas Points Meet
Honestly I really dont think once the entries have paid the money to race that the race
directors or track management really could care less how many cars go down the track how many classes loose a time trial etc etc, I just watched a good friend of mine pay 75$ to make one TNT run at Vegas because a Manufacture put up some money to have a Pro Mod shootout on a TNT day and they cut all of TNT short to make it happen!! LOL what a Country......... |
Re: The Nov Vegas Points Meet
The extra 2 classes top this and that is a qualified field so they will need to have more time runs like comp. What happens to to top cars that dont qualify? Do they join s/c or go home or when they join another class do they get time runs for that class too? Its just 10lbs of poop crammed in to a 5lb bag

Re: The Nov Vegas Points Meet
I agree that something has to be done with the schedule at this race. Competing in stock and super stock absolutely SUCKED. Announcers calling cars to the lanes at 7:30am, yet I never saw a tree in the daylight until Sunday.
It definitely should be a two time run race. Like Toby said, it might not fix the problem, but it's a step in the right direction. It's the end of the year and 90% of the competitors were there the week before. Even if you don't enjoy all the HUGE advantages afforded to the touring pro racer, I would think everyone should be ready with two hits at that point in the season. As for night time, when it starts getting dark at 4:30 in the afternoon, I think everyone needs to be prepared to race in the dark. My sincere condolences to everyone that feels the need to hide behind the magic cardboard...although some have obviously figured it out...LOL... |
Start National Earlier!
I feel that starting the Vegas National event race earlier, only makes sense! I personally feel the race should include "Class Eliminations" in Stock, Super stock....Comp!!!! Indy of the west! Years ago NHRA set up tear down barns in Vegas {actual tents to get out of the sun}. This race is at a great time of year for most of the western Canadian class racers.....it's hard to miss 3 weeks of work to go to Indy, we have such a short summer here! Vegas.....Indy of the west!
Start the division a day early! This is simply a safety issue. You can't have a can of Brake-clean but you can have track workers, racers, and crew members standing in the sun for more than 12hrs.......safety? |
Re: The Nov Vegas Points Meet
I like the idea of starting the div race a day earlier on Thursday ,and let all class cars enter .
This national event plus the div race should be the Indy of the West as this track can handled a large amount of entries . Hey run everyday with some form of race ,like maybe on Tuesday a race within a race sponsored by a casino , then on Wednesday another race within a race , then on Thursday start the div race . make the whole two weeks racing every day , of course the pros test on Monday after the national . But no running after dark for us older racers lol as we have to take care of our wives and go to a show or two while we are in Vegas ,ok so I admit need my beauty sleep early ha ha |
