Combo racing...

Is it coming back to Beech Bend next year? I love watching the Stockers and Super Stockers race! Oh by the way, new guy here. Just a lowly bracket racer. :)

I think we should have at least as many races at Beech Bend as we had last year and hopefully more.

Cool thanks. I'm a youngster (23) and I try to explain Stock/Super Stock racing to some of my friends and they just look at me with a stupid look on their face. I guess they just haven't been raised around a dragstrip like I have.

What is the payout there? Is it one or two races?

Re: Combo racing...

There are one day races on Sunday, and "two day" races that are two races, one on Saturday night and one Sunday. It's $50 to enter, I think it pays $1500. We had 61 cars at the last two races. A big thank you to Comp Cams, TCI, and Beech Bend for the combo series this year.

Jason, I'm glad to see you enjoy stock/super stock, as for your friends you need educate them that you can go fast without opening up the jeg's catalog an saying I need a big cam, etc. to go fast. There's nothing wrong with bracket racing, until you get your car to run the index then your in the game. Remember a cam here a converter there an before you know it you there! Also ask question when at the B.G. combo race's and you might be surprised how fast you get to the index.

Jason,

Great to hear of your interest. Can you tell me if your friends that have that "look" on their faces understand the rules, or do they want to just look for an easier way to go go fast?

It sounds like you were raised around this so you understand. I did the same. I like the rules and working within that set of rules. I have felt that many young people I work with do not want to follow rules, and I only hope that it is where I work, not the norm.

I am just inquiring for my own thoughts

Thanks, but my car isn't even remotely Stock/Super Stock legal. It's a street car. I drive it to the racetrack and I even drive it around a day or 2 a week sometimes....and it gets bracket raced every weekend.

The "look" is they just don't understand the system. I try to explain it, but they still just don't get it. I'm not a "class" racer myself, but I've watched enough class cars go down the racetrack, and read the rulebook enough to have a pretty basic idea of what's going on. The problem with the guys my age is if it doesn't have 18" wheels, nitrous, supercharger, or lots of chrome it's not cool. They don't get the concept of bracket racing much less class racing....which granted after you guys qualify it's a bracket race unless you run a car in the same class as you.

I went to my first Combo race @ Beech Bend in June. I want to try it myself now.
Now that I have found 2 tracks I can run a class car in combo races, I am wanting to build my 95 Mustang GT into a Stocker.

Can your Cutlass fit the rules with minor mods ?

Nope. I don't have a 307 Olds engine, and I don't have deep enough pockets to fool with it. I'd just rather bracket race with what I have...plus I can still drive it on the street.

Kevin it's a lot of fun and a lot of good racers. The two day races are the best Saturday night and Sunday.

I will be thanking the guys at Comp Cams and TCI personally for backing the the Beech Bend combo at the PRI Show. We need to remember who does this stuff for us.

I'd say Beech Bend will have a schedule up by February or March. We'll probably hear something at the racer's banquet next month.
