Div 4 STK Racer Ronnie West
 

Division 4 Stock racer Ronnie West is in M.D. Anderson Hospital here in Houston, TX. He is not doing well and could use a well wish or prayer if you are a praying person. He is battling Hotchkins Lymphoma and complications are rampant.

If you would like to send a note or card you can send it to our office and we will get them to his wife Sarah who is by his side 24/7.

We will keep you posted.

I work right across from MD Anderson at the St.Luke's tower, could you PM me his room number and I will go see him tomorrow, if that is OK with his family. I will definitley keep him and his family in my prayers. So sorry to hear, he was just his normal self a few months ago at the Dallas nat. Thanks for informing us.

I have known Ronnie for alot of years. So sorry to hear about his illness. We will keep him and Sarah in our prayers.

I wish him well. I got my first round win ever against Ronnie at Houston and RJ gave him a very hard time and Ronnie fired back in a way only he could do. I wish him a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing him next year. I will get a prayer chain started.

The doctors moved Ronnie to ICU yesterday afternoon.

This is not easy to beat. My friends wife has had it come back for the 3rd time after beating it twice before and being declared cancer free. She is on her third go at kemo and stem cell transplants as I type this. Now an infection has set in with her. I wish him well but to be honest....it dosent look good due to what I have learned. My prayers go out to him. Cancer is such an ugly thing. Lets all hope that a cure is found in our life time.

Update 12-16-10 @ 4P.M.

Ronnie has taken another turn for the worse. His kidneys have shut down and the doctors have now said there is nothing more they can do. They are giving him what he needs to make him comfortable. We need a miracle, my friends.

Ronnie West is one of the most generous people I have ever known.
I have seen him reach into his pocket and give money to people that he wanted to help so many times I can't even count them. I know that he sent several thousand dollars to the widow of a slain highway patrolman all the way across the country, a guy he didn't even know. I have also heard of him giving money to poor people on numerous occasions.
He's a great guy, my friend, and he is in my prayers during this difficult hour.

My first encounter with Ronnie was at the Denver National in 2008, and he scared the crap out of me. But after getting to know him, you could not find a better man.

We share a small bond, because he owned my car at one time. Ronnie would always ride my *** because I was at the racetrack instead of being with my family. It really made you think about priorities in your life.

Like others have said, Mr. Ronnie is a way different guy than what he appears to be on the surface, and I know this from both stories and personal experience. Praying for a miracle.....

When Ronnie bought State Capitol Raceway, he tried running it with a State Trooper mentality (my way or the highway) but I saw the other side of him soon. At the first points race there a racer had a fatal heart attack. He went to the racer's wife and returned the entry fee and gave her another thousand dollars to help her out. That is just one of the many stories.

My prayers are with him and his family.

I spoke with Ronnie about a week before Thanksgiving and although he was not feeeling great, he was upbeat and talking about getting that "Bad ***" Hemi ready for the 2011 racing season!

Ronnie is a true "Class Racer" and a gentleman. We have a special bond being both racers and retired troopers. I will say a prayer for my friend and his family.

At Denver this past summer, Ronnie was giving Larry a hard way to go (like he always does). A spectator overheard the conversation and was questioning it. Larry said "Oh, we have a Love-Hate relationship". Then Ronnie said "No it's a Hate-Hate" relationship. Then he took us out to lunch! Ronnie and Sarah are very nice people. We even got to meet their daughter and 2 grandsons this summer.

Hopefully all these prayers will bring about a miracle and we will have him around a while longer.

I have just been notified that the cancer took ronnie from us this morning at 9:35 am. As many have already said ronnie had abig heart and was a generous man. I got to know him personally after he bought state capitol racetrack, and being the rfc track chaplain there i had a lot of contact with ronnie and witnessed his generosity first hand. Ronnie and i had a lot of things in common, the love of drag racing and both of us being law enforcement professionals were among many that enabled me to see and know the true ronnie west. He truly did have a big heart and will be missed by many. Please continue to pray for his family. God bless my fellow racers chaplain craft.
