Norwalk qualifying

When's the last time there were 35 more Super Stockers at an event than Stockers??? 86 Super Stock, and 51 Stock... those numbers might be expected if they were flip-flopped!

Where'd all the Super Stockers come from, and where'd all the Stockers go?

Michael, by the time all of the cars get there I would think there will be more Stockers than SSer's. Mike

Michael,

Dont know about this year, but in the past Divsion 3 was the largest division in NHRA in Super Stock. Division 1 held that same distinction for Stock. So over here it isnt such a shock.

Michael, I may be eating those words. Only 62 cars after Rd. 2. That is a big surprise to me. The other night Greg Fulk, Charlie Downing, and myself were talking and we all thought there would be at least 128 cars in Stock. It might still happen but a lot of cars need to show up. Mike

Picked up a few more in the cleanup round, up to 71, but Super Stock also added a few and is still +35 at 106. Both fields are pretty strong, too - whoever wins this weekend in either one will have to wade through some tough competition.

Just finished running third round, 74 cars made time runs in Stock either yesterday or today. A couple more teched in, but didn't run - maybe just wanted the grade points. Tony Goodman was #1, -1.41 in H/SA. Density altitude is still showing below 1,000 feet this morning, cool and overcast.

Pretty fast up here; track in good shape with 'Redman' prepping the starting line. Strong turnout from Div 3 racers.

The official final qualifying results haven't been released yet - they are waiting until tech officially closes at noon. Final count on Super Stock appears to be 111 cars, picking up five more overnight.

I'll have the final order and ladders up as soon as they send them to me - am across the track from "the mountain" and have to wait for the timing crew to fax the sheets over.

Ladders and final qualifying are now posted on DRC. Enjoy!

Oh, yeah, carefully checked all the cars before posting - what you see is what was on the qualifying sheets, so if there are any oddball combinations of class and car type, call Race Control...

I was there for the World Nationals last August. Norwalk has been premier quality for many years. (with the exception of a media center) They'll have to come up with a new level of quality description for what they've done recently! I heard that the new pit paving is phenomenal.

Kinda funny.... where were all the Super Stockers at the nationals there last year, and where are all the T/D, T/S, Hot Rod (S/ST) cars now that *were* at the nationals last year?

They went from "no press facility" to having the best one on the tour (IMHO) and the rest of the improvements are also top-calibre. In usual Bader fashion, they have settled for nothing but the best and the place looks even better than before (and that's saying a lot). A couple things are still finished (like the elevator to race control) but will be done before the national event and the place definitely does not look like your typical construction zone. And the ice cream is still a pound for a buck.

Spectator tickets for the national event are going fast and the grandstands will likely be all-reserved before long.

Crowd yesterday for the divisional race was 8,000-10,000, the stands about a third full for the late session. And that was with cloudy, cool weather and occasional sprinkles. High yesterday was 64 - it's already warmer than that today.

Your teammate just lost in the first round of Super Street - by 0.0005 seconds! Needs another layer of chrome on the bumper...

ack... And I had a .005 package put on me 3rd round at Farmington last night. Hope Terry's fairing better at Columbus!

Thanks for the report. Talk about customer service! ;-)

Barnhouse gets a bye in the second round of stock - Goodman's heads failed the CC check. According to Nitro Joe, he'd have been okay with the correct spark plugs, his were too long. So the -1.4 qualifying run won't result in a horsepower adjustment.

How's that for customer service??? [:-smilearound-:]

Nice. Oh, and I talked to Zapp... he was out 4 mph on the guy to give it up .0005. Darn near perfect! ;-)

After getting whacked by a .001 and dead-on w/ a 4 yesterday, I figured I'd better tighten things up today. I was .016 vs a red first round. Second round, I'm .007 to his .016, both .02 over, me backing into him .010. He buys back, and we run again 3rd round. We're both .001, both .01 over, him patting on me this time, down to .002. Uh... yikes!

'nother day in paradise. :-)
