Re: Would make someone a Good car
If it's the old Tuttle car, it was a killer T/SA car. Looks like it's been bracket-ized, though.

Not sure what size of tires you can get up under it.But it says it has not been cut up.

Re: Would make someone a Good car
Lee's was a 1966 Wagon!

Re: Would make someone a Good car
If that old Wagon was on this side of the U.S. it would be mine!
Love it! Love the price too! |
Re: Would make someone a Good car
It would take too much to make a class car out of it. It needs windows, interior, CORRECT SEATS, Tires, drive train, etc, etc, etc,
You would have a minimum of $15 grand in it. You can find lots of cars ready to go in that price range and some cheaper. |
Re: Would make someone a Good car
Chip,
I know what you mean. But That depends on what class you want to run in and show me another Wagon for that price in that shape. There is Not as much competition in the class this car will fit in. And you know it will not Take $15 grand to do it. |
Re: Would make someone a Good car
Unfortunately I could easily see it going to $15k as a stocker, ready to rumble, maybe even throw in an open trailer. The three tenths hit on the indexes rendered the whole idea of building a budget class car obsolete. Nonetheless, it would make a very nice hot rod.

Re: Would make someone a Good car
I was basing my prices on a IHRA stocker or even a Crate motor stocker.
Also not a front runner but one that would run under the index though. I have seen a couple of Motor & Trans combos For Sale for around $5000 it was a stocker motor to. As for windows $150 each that is $300 Also saw a Front and Rear seat that will need to be cover they where asking $149 on Ebay Saw a Nice Back seat allready cover for $550 on ebay As for Back rims and tires Sell the ones on it and put that money into New or use ones the right size. Also they where asking $3200 but may come off price as most do. That is under $10000 and for some one that can do all the work thereself it would be a little cheaper. |

Re: Would make someone a Good car
Kevin,
Sounds like under 10k but will never happen. Crate motor cars cost just as much as NHRA legal to build. Bought a trans and convertor lately. The last stocker 350 trans I had was $2500 throw a conv in thats another $800-$1,000. Build motor yourself you will have a minimum of $5,000 in it alone. Then you need Carb, dist, water pump, starter another $1500 Thats 10k alone. You could buy a crate motor from GM for less than $3,000 but you need to change the cam, lifters, springs, rockers for it to run the index. You could go the ebay/craigs list/swap meet route buying used stuff and maybe knock a couple grand off then you face reliability issues. One other thing Crate motor stock in div 9 is very competitive. Every class there has a least one car capable of qulifying top of the field. I've been there done that . Did 3 cars in 5 years. Won some races too. Very expensive. One reason I went to the .90 classes If you wanted a bracket car it's not a bad deal though. Chip Johnson |

Re: Would make someone a Good car
Corbitt,
Your car should sell at that price. Shoot I had almost that much in my RC & Slot Drag cars.LOL Chip , I was just saying the wagon in that ad can be a stocker for $10000 or Less I did not say a front runner.Like I said I saw a motor & Trans together out of a stocker for $5000..Look for some Deals And By the way Yes we have bought a Trans and Converter as of Late. By the way the Trans in are car Now has 3 seasons on it with the same Clutches and is from Mike Melvin which Save us about $1000 from one of the Brand Name Companys. Like I said if you look for some Deals it can be done. |
Re: Would make someone a Good car
That 70-72 wagon is legal with a 402 big block. Would be interesting. It definitely would be a rather heavy car. Right now, my plan is to take my red '68 wagon to Winternationals. The greatest thing about a 64-72 A body wagon is that they are very easy to drive, they hook up anyplace, are consistant, and there's still quite a few out there.

Re: Would make someone a Good car
hey Kevin....I'm with you on this one pal! It doesn't have to be the best of the best of the best to make a fun stocker. And....it would be different too.
Chip doesn't even like class racing so don't let him get to ya :D bahahahahaha |
Re: Would make someone a Good car
Come on MARC. I love Class racing. I just can't afford to do it right.
Maybe post should be renamed to Would make someone A car, but A GOOD car cost way more than $10K unless you buy Corbitts wagon. Chip |
Re: Would make someone a Good car
Chip,
Even Yourself can do it right. You don't have to run 1 second under the index.Pick a class that does not have many cars in it.. Look at my Cousin Missy Phillips and Cory Taylor. They only run around 2 tenths under there index sometimes less and they go alot of rounds and I think they have GOOD CARS.Also Missy has been in a quiet of few Finials even Cory has been in a Finial and a few Semis. |
